1845 Dec. 21st Sunday a bitter cold cold night & morning snow yet covers the ground — Earth like a Rock so hard frozen

-22. yet cold & snow melted very little cutting — new ground & spining Burning Brushing

23- Fair & tolerable Pleasant Cutting in new ground & Halling wood.

24th This morning snowing gone to mill shoemaking & shelling corn real winter weather & has been ever since 1st Decemr 1845. Rough on every thing Snow melted very little that — first fell & covers many Homesnow Snowed nearly all day, not very fast Hailed some, weather not very cold this night- nearly done cutting down on Branch & have cut 20 yds wide & 100 yds long in new ground of little growth,

25 Cloudy all day. Weather a little more moderate my wife gone to Mrs Hunts Halling wood for Christmas this day clear

26 Very cold & freezing this morning

27 a Beautifull day & my wife gone to Mrs Smyths, clear clear

28 A little cloudy tolerable cold snow melted very little been on ground 2 weeks

1845 Decemr 28th This Month truly has been winter throughout cold & snowy weather People generally so far enjoy good health

Dec 29 little cloudy weather not very cold tho the snow melts but little Mrs Hunts Allen came here this morning to work for Fed making shoes, has to work 8 days —

30 little cloudy weather moderate snow melts but Slow Kill cherry this day or yesterday - cutting wood in new ground Halling wood etc

31 Soon in the morning clear & moder -ate after the morning cloudy & like for falling weather, cutting in new ground & Halling wood Hung up our meat yesterday —

1846 Jany 1st A little cloudy soon in the morning Bids fair for a pretty day after morning cutting little growth in new ground Halled stack straw to fodder stack & 4 Loads of wood for Andrew Crews began this day about 11 Oclock to cut big growth but not ½ done cutting little growth

2nd Rained last night snow melted Smartly weather moderate Bid fair for another pretty day. Began to rain about one Hour be[fore] sun last evening very windy & somewhat cloudy

12th Fine day & we are burning Large Plant Bed on mountain —

13th Finishing Plant Bed to day — A little cloudy weather moderate

14 Sewed Plant Bed this morning & covered it & cutting wood for another below the road on mountain ——

15th Commenced burning small Plant Bed on mountain this morning weather moderate & cloudy to day Went yesterday to Mrs Hunts Bring Lains Ezekial East & shop to carry hides for Miller to Tan3 carried got the shingles my Plow & a little straw from Mrs Hunts yesterday Sewed small Plant Bed on mountain this night in the rain, began to rain about night —

16th rained nearly all night cloudy this morning & we are striping Tobacco at new ground —— 17th Finally a rainy Day Striping Tobacco

1846 18Saturday 178th Meeting at Str. Stone M.H. Fenced in plant Bed on mountain this morning went to cutting & cleaning out stables & Halled leaves This day Halled up stack oats & Hay

18th Fair cold winter days

20th Another Fair cold day — cutting in new ground & Hallingwood Bro. Lovelace here my wife & girls gone to Mrs H

19 Tolerable fair & cold cutting in new ground & Halling wood

20 Cutting in new ground between 10 & 11 Oclock it commencing snowing quite cold — Dreadful cold night Just about night it rained Hailed & freeze

21 Snow Hail etc about 4 Inches Deep severe weather, striping Tobacco

22 Fair & cold striping Tobacco Snow between 4 & 5 Inches Ice on Tops We have 7 Lambs lost 2 at Stony point

23 Fair & weather tolerable, we are striping Tobacco in Middle Barn Trying to finish that House this night

24 We cutting in new ground not quite done, weather moderating

25th Snow melting very much to day

27 Began to mall in new ground Phil & Fed Henry gone to shop withCart Lila & alse finishing striping in the Middle Barn

28. 2 Hands getting gate Post Fed malling alse & Lila stacking wood Mr Myers came here last night & set in this morning to set up Tobacco Hhds my wife & F.W. at Mrs Hunt last night & went to Doct Sutfins Beautifull weather about this day

29 Weather moderate, cloudy - Halling up gate Post towards granary Malling in new ground & Piling wood

30 Malling & Henry gone to mill & got 74 feet Hhd heading

31 Henry & Phil gone to Shields to roll Logs Balance took down Tobacco nearly all day Feby 1st cloudy this morning & like for falling weather my wife gone to Prayer meeting Mr Myers set up 2 Hhds & gone home 17 Lambs in Jany lost 5 —

2nd Malling Halling up Tobacco – 3rd Henry Halled wood this day

3. Malling & Prized Tobacco

4th Still fine weather clear Lila been Plowing all this week, Prizingto day Lugs Lugs malling in new ground — Halled a stack oats yesterday 3rd
