1852 Novr 26 Raining all day striping Tobacco Federick gone to mill 5 Bus. Corn 3 Bush. wheat alse malissa & Kitty spining – weather moderate

Decr 2nd Finished shucking all our branch Corn & old Land Have all the fresh Land where we sewed wheat here at home to get up now fine weather for it

3rd Raining this morning & Turned Cooler making Baskets & shoeing making –

4 Halled up wood & Housed Corn in evening moderate clear day - 5 went to S.S. M House to hear Br. McLaughlin ¬

6 Killed 2 Hogs this morning. Pulling off Corn & Halling up, Fair moderate day

7 Halling up Corn in the evening clouded up & Rained a little so that we shucked no corn

8. clear fine morning, sent Fed to Mill 5 Bus. Corn & 2½ Bus wheat for J. Tucker Trying to finish Halling up corn this morning then for shucking & Housing —

16th Finished Our Corn last monday & this day its raining last night it Hailed quite cool Cut & Halled wood yesterday,- to day we are shoeing making Baskets etc etc

21st Finished Halling stalks next to orchard & sewed the wheat there & next to [illegible] clearing cloudy & Raining this day. we are striping tobacco weather warm; not quite done Grubbing this side of branch where we are clearing —

22nd Grubbing & Cutting, Finishing sewing wheat where stacks is in field, but not finished halling stalks Jacob & Lowry halled wood for Mr Neal ½ day

5th Kill our Hogs 3 or 4 days ago It has been Raining nearly all thisweek only clear 1 day last monday very wet time indeed Have not seen the sun for several days

1853 Jany 5. It has been raining most all this X & one or Two Jany came in & night before last it rained & snowed very bad night Henry sick all this week & all have bad colds etc.

1853 Jany 5 Spotted Sow had 7 pigsonly 4 2 or 3 days ago the one come from Mr. Fitzgeralds has pigs but we cant find her have been hunting for her 2 or 3 days – she came up with 8 Pigs –to day we are halling wood grubbing etc. yesterday we striped Tobacco,- sow came up with 8 Pigs.

8th we have been Halling wood Cutting etc

12th This week we have been cutting & Halling woodetc yesterday we began to Plow & Hall Leaves in Johns field Balance is cutting wood for Plant Bed at mountain, This morning its Raining hard & began sometime in night & we are all striping Tobacco in overseers House. finishing whats there about 12 Oclock We have finished Grubbing out new ground —

15th Striping Tobacco in Middle Barn yesterday & to day, not quite done the Barn back of Garden Snowed Thursday night about 4 or 5 Inches deep for the first this winter, Jacob & Cate to see Mr Fitzgerald who is Sick as well as myself I have sick for 2 weeks to day taken several doses Pills & 2 doses strong medicine one of Calomel last night. Halling out Straw for cattle this evening, Mr Crews helping to assort Tobacco @ 12Ocl. Who I have engaged to help when he can @ 2/3 pr day Sent Jordan to store for Papers letters & a bottle of Castor Oil for me —

22nd The past week I have been sick all the week, they have Burnt one Plant at mountain Field cut in new ground Burnt Brush halled wood etc etc they striped Tobacco one or Two days in middle Barn. to day cutting Jacob & Lowry gone Abram Neals to hall wood, cloudy & like for snow or Rain, 23rd Tolerable good day

24th cloudy & like for falling weather & we are striping Tobacco in middle Barn till 12 oclock then stoped cleared off They went to cutting in new ground —

25 Put straw in cow Racks yesterday, we are all hands cutting to day, my wife Jerry & little Henry gone to see Mr Fitzgerald to day etc

1853 Jany 26th Mr Fitzgerald is Better. I am also mending; we are cutting Big growth in new ground & nearly done.- weather very cold wind from N.W - clear —

27th Burning Plant Bed in new ground above Johns spring,- nearly done cutting Big growth., my wife & Jerry gone to Mrs Hunts Jacob gone to Mill, Killed 2 Hogs this morning weather cold this morningclear &,

28th Fine day clear, Burnt Plant Bed in new ground yesterday & finishing & cutting it to day Henry Halling wood; expect to sew Plant Bed this evening in new ground —— Sewed Plant Bed 15 yrds square trenched & covered it,

29. We are cutting Big growth the other side of Branch, & fixing place to burn another plant Bed on Johns Branch Fed gone to mill 7½ Bushels Corn & 2½ Bushels wheat etc Fine clear weather very cold

30th clear fine day - Mr Fitzgerald better

31st Burning 2 plant Beds at new ground On Johns Branch to day – & finished Burning but not Choped up & sewed yet, Henry again complaining & alse sick ever since yesterday - fine weather,

Feby 1st Fixing 2 Plant Beds to sew this evening Jordan & Lowry Halling wood Henry & alse sick fine weather; Jacob went to CH with Mrs Clements last Sunday went from home Mr Neal got Leather sole & upper etc for me a pair of fine shoes etc etc

2nd cloudy this morning & like for Rain Henry & alse in House yet – Fed & Sandy Halling straw in Rack & leaves stablesto cutting in new ground & if it don't Rain we shall go to Halling wood at 12 ocl. Jacob has not come yet Jacob come at 12 ocl.

1853 Febr 10 Henry Jordan & Sandy Plowing Jacob malling malissa Picking [G?] Kitty fencing alse shelling corn fine weather,

11th Fencing Plowing malling & Halling wood, sent for my new wagon body Sent 2 Large cow skins & 1 kip skin to Mr E Lewis to carry to Doss s Tanyard to Tan at Green field, & we have also 2 large skin cow sent to Jefferson & Reeses Leesville

12 Malling & cutting wood to burn Plant Bed Plowing & Haling wood – fine weather

13 Fine day windy in evening & cooler

14th malling Fencing & Plowing this day quite cool this day —

15. my wife gone to Mrs Hunts to night Burnt & sewed Plant Bed above House & got done by night Jordan & sandy Plowing Raining at night a little & Hailing,

16 Striping tobacco in prize Barn Raining,-

17th Jacob & Lowry halling wood for Mr Neal Henry Fed & Sandy malling Balance fencing around Johns field, cleared off & fine morning not very cold,- my wife not got back yet —

18th Jacob & Fed malling 3 Plows running. Balance fencing, cloudy & like for falling weather I went to Capt Gilberts.-

19th Striping Tobacco in prize Barn Rained in morning & then Snowing till night disperate day very cold, indeed no wood

20th cleared off & fine morning –

21st went CH & striped Tobacco —

22nd Jacob gone to Farris Mill 2 Bus wheat forflour Balance all Halling leaves cloudy & like for Rain began to Rain about night & Rained all night

23rd Striped Tobacco in prize Barn etc etc

24th Fencing & malling alse Swingling flax very cold & windy —

1853 may 17th Hilling 3rd yrs Land for tobacco & putting Guano in the Hill Henry Plowing on branch for Corn, Jordan & Sandy coltering in Second yrs ground

18. Hilling in 3rd yrs Land. Coltering in Second clear pretty weather, Jacob Cate had measles Clem & Jerrys only 2 cases of mumphs Jacob & Jerry

19. Finished planting corn & Peas this day before 12 Oclock & Replanted Corn — Federick gone to Millers Mill 8 Bus Corn Hilling in fresh ground windy & cool Began at 12 Oclock to Plow in Corn

22 went to Prayer meeting —

23 Plowing & Hilling second yrs Land

24 Planting Tobacco to day Do—— Do

25 Planted new ground & nearly done the 3rd yrs Tobacco Land, sent Jordanto Plant Tobacco for Plants to Kelly Jacob Cate clem & Jerry has had measles Jacob & Jerry the mumphs sallie Peggy and Several had the mumphs or a little swelled under the Jaw catharine S Catharine clem Jordan and Lowry

28 Plowed & weeding fresh ground at mountain yesterday & coltering 2nd yrs Land Plowing in corn field clear & cool till yesterday & warm to day Hilling to in 2nd yrs Tobacco Land & Plowing in Johns field replanted Cotton & Broom Corn wed Sweet Potatoes Day before yesterday Loaded waggon for Lynchg monday morning

30 waggon started to Lynchg this morning 1 Hhd Seconds adkinson to have it Sold, Hilling in 2nd yrs ground for Tobacco,

31st Finishing Hilling this morning in for Tobacco 2nd yrs Land cloudy & Likely for Rain, Cate sicklast night again
