1858 Sept 7th Went up to Jacobs to day pulling Fodder & Stacking to day — — Tobacco very sorry – pulling all day at home, sent to mill etc,- warm weather at this time

8th Pulling fodder here & at Cedar Hill Nannie gone to Mrs Hunts, & finished at home

9th Tying up fodder at home & worming ^ Tobacco& stacking some fodder got up 7 or 8 stacks & about stack to several more, put up 3 at Cedar Hill & got some to stack to day – trying to get done pulling up there by 12 Oclock to day fair fine weather for the business,- Bot Jacob Black Horse Bill last night. gave him $50. payable next march - & brot him home ¬

10th I went to Cedar Hill Finished pulling fodder there & put up 2 more stacks Jordan there this evening helping about fodder ¬ Stacking here & worming & succoring Tobacco put up 21 stacks here & 5 at Cedar Hill, Turned out cattle in Pasture at Stoney,- like for Rain this morning-

11th Went to meeting at Strait Stone Rained a pretty shower, worming & succoring Tobacco at mountain, Jordan went to Cedar Hill yesterday to help about fodder got some in the rain,- done stacking at home & put up 21 stacks one or Two small ones,

12th Mr. M. Pannills Funeral to day at S Stone quite Cool, Sent Jim up to Jacobs this morning

13th quite cool worming & succoring Tobacco

14. 15. 16 & 17 & 18th worming & succored over Tobacco Cutting Tops & began 17th to Cut Tobacco about House, & Cutting to day 18th at Cedar Hill I have been stilling this week ma[de] 26 Gallons Brandy & left there 8 Gallons for

18th September in my Runlet, the have finished stacking fodder up there put up 9 stacks & apiece began in Lot below Kitchen –to cut Tobacco this 18th Friday in evening

18th quite Cool one of Sows has 6 pigs Mrs Huntswent to Riceville to meeting called, I got home last night about 10 Oclock in night, -

19 stayed at home I went to H. Fletcher Burial. Jerry went to Riceville

20. I went to Cedar Hill to see about Tobacco stacks etc, cutting Tobacco Here,- fine dry weather

21 I went to CH Cutting Tobacco Here at Johns Branch - got about 9 or 10 Oclock in night -

22nd Beet a press full of Crabs for vinegar last night & this morning - etc etc finished at Johns Branch last evening over cutting one time,- This day we are cutting Tobacco at mountain etc; & new ground at mountain Spring.

23 Finished at mountain cutting over and quite cool this morning

24th began to House Tobacco this morning I am going to Cedar to House there If we can Capt Clements has promised to get his Tobacco out of the Barns to day,- as they have not sold it yet got nearly 2 Barns old prize & one back of Garden nearly full & Halled up Lot at Cedar Hill last night before it Rained small shower last night before I came home

25th This morning Raining.-

1858 Sept 26th cloudy & like to Rain, protracted meeting at Rice & we wanted to go - so unlikely we did not

27th Halling up Tobacco from mountain & nearly put all first cutting 2000 in new prize Barn firing now 4 at Home & about 60400 in 4 at House & Owens Barn at new ground, filling owens

28 to day firing worming & succoring & Halling stumps to fire with at each Barn, we are going to Rice this morning to meeting Baptizing etc – – –

28. Finishing Housing all thats cut this morning

29th Stacking Tops here & at Cedar Hill & firing Tobacco etc etc Henry & claiborne gone to Cedar Hill & Fillmore to get up Tops etc-

30th Sent little Henry to Yates with 2 Bushels wheat for flour & 2 Bushels Corn in evening for meal,- finishing top stack this morning Jordan Halling wood to Barns to Fire Tobacco with. The above wheat is the first used of the new crop yet

Friday 1st & 2 Oct 1858 Firing Tobacco at home worming & succoring Tobacco Digging Irish Potatoes & nearly out of seed. very sorry Picking out Cotton Halling Rocks to build chimney to overseers House Halling wood etc etc 5 Barns Tobacco about cured at Cedar Hill they are hanging & Housing - their new ground

3nd Oct. Very clear & dry, going to meeting to Riceville to day Mary Hunt here -

4rd Overseer Henry & Sandy covering Tobacco Riving boards etc, - cutting Tobacco in Lot - to day clearing

5th Riving boards getting Tobacco stacks cutting Tobacco etc.

1858 Oct 5th This morning cleaning out my Stable cleaning out Crews Barn etc etc Cut & Hang all Tobacco next to overseers 700 sticks. overseer Riving Boards for new Barn on mountain chinking etc,- Riving Tobacco sticks pt of day

6th. Rained a little last night & this morning. put up Hog in pen & Turned Balance out in woods 18 or 19 Big Hogs & Sows & 27 or 28 Pigs except Hunts sow & Pigs & shoats in pasture the shoats to be altered Daubing mountain Barn etc Buck went to mill this morning & brot 4 Bags meal carried 2 Turns 4 Bus. corn for meal at mill & then he halled wood & Picked out Cotton cloudy & like for Rain nearly all day –

8th I have been to Cedar Hill 7 & 8 beeting Cider etc etc, Cutt all our Tobacco worked on overseers House etc etc & not much frost This morning If any, all my Hogs up this morning, we cut Johns’ Branch ne ground at mountain & mountain fresh ground the 8 Inst. We have 2 or 3 Barrels of cider for vinegarin all Sallie came from Fannies this day, they all came down & Brot her this evening

9th went to meeting at Strait Stone, Daubed & shingled overseers house nearly halled Rocks in evening cut down corn & Piled Pea vine [ink spot]

10 went to meeting at at S. Stone

11th Halling up Tobacco & filling Barn in fresh ground out of Lot filling Crews Barn with last cutting there & new Barn on mountain with last cutting at mountain new ground

Oct 12th It Rained this day firing Tobacco etc

– 13th I went to Cedar Hill had the House washed out gathered some apples cutting down corn, Jacob gone to Lynchg - here & they are Housing our last Cutting filled new Barn firing 3, & had to carry some of new ground to mountain Barn,

14th Began to Plow for wheat yesterday in Lot Sewing to day firing Tobacco, getting succors & Knocking Tobacco stubble after plows, etc. overseer made Barn door yesterday Hung it etc etc Mr Hunts John came here this morning to Build overseers house chimney Buck Halling wood & Rails this evening

15th Sent cart to shop to have Tire Cut this morning on one wheel Mr Chumbly sent 2 Bus wheat & I sent 4 Bushels Corn to mill we are sewing wheat etc cleaning out Trenches. Lowry came down last night to Sew wheat. Finishing firing Tobacco to day John Jordan & little Henry building chimny

16th Buck carrying shingles to Cedar Hill carrd 32 lbs Bacon in 6 lb Bacon for Kitty & Fed till 24th or 25. Balance for working etc,- Cutting down ^ corn up there sewing wheat here cutting down corn etc working on chimny etc

17th Stayed at home this day -

18 went to Court on by Cedar Hill & Mr Hunts to get Kates school acct & failed to get it etc Sewing wheat here etc finished up at Chumbleys sewing Corn Land

19th Mr Wyatt not at Cedar Hill yet halled 2 Loads shingles up there to day
