1846 Jany 4 Raining a little all day striping 1847—tobacco in prize Barn —
5 taking down Tobacco in prize this morning barn going to saw & Grts mill to day waggon stock for Hhd staves & meal 10½ Bushels cutting little growth in new ground

7 began to Rain about day this morning after the morning it Rained hailed & snowed & about night Turned very cold, yellow Bull calf crippled & Died
8 very cold cutting big trees this day beganin new ground Lady Jane very sick but got in eveningwell
9 Cutting big trees & Henrys axe broke Jacob gone to shop & Henry halling wood weather a little moderated last evening
10 Sunday cloudy & cold & at began to hail Rain & snow & very bad night
11 Striping Tobacco in big barn & halling wood in evening. I went to see B.L & [?]& E[?]

1848 Jany 31 Began to prize Lugs weather moderate, piling wood & malling, Jacob starts to School Lila Sick about the 20th Jany last Inst. Dew had a Bull calf 2 weeks ago Poll had a cow calf last night
Febr 1st Beautiful clear day, for winter prizing Our Lugs malling cutting old Logs & Halling wood last very stormy & Rainy a little & cooler this morning
2nd Halling Rails at stony point. cutting old Logs in new ground & fencing - cloudy & like for R. or S. in 10 or 15days we have 2 young calves & 27 pigs - all look well —
3rd Sent Henry to mill 1 Log & 1 Bbl Corn for meal & sent $1 to pay Doct Miller what I Owe him & 9¢ to have band put on hind hounds of waggon, the Log is for Hhd Heading
4 Striping Tobacco in prize Barn Burnt little plant abed above on branchHouse to this day sent 4 Logs to mill & Recd 28 ps 2 staves in ps & 4 plank for Heading
5 Cutting big growth in little new ground Turned cold & windy - Our Black sow which had 5 pigs cant walk weakness in loins the
6 this morning very cold & windy - have 26th pigs at this time, Bet had her calve few days ago. Now have 3 young calves clear weather,
7. Still cold & windy finished Cutting little new ground, malling, -
8th Snowed a little last night went to Uncle Jerrys last evening. Striping Tobacco. weather cold yet.
March 10-24, 1848
1848 March 10 Cleared off this morning Halling wood & leaves & burning Log Heaps cool weather, - no Oats seeded yet. Snow & Hail nearly gone Sent Henry to mill 1 Log to be ¾ square edged plank 2 Turns corn & 1 of wheat & to get 1 Turn chop been there for sometime

12 fine day but very windy - fire got out of our new ground no damage this day
13. Plowing Cleaning up new ground
14. Plowing etc 15 began at 12 oclock 15. to colter little new ground 2 [cotters?] also to sew Oats in Johns field
16 Collering in new ground cutting down corn stalks, ground hard frozen, sewing Oats from 12 oclock again, fair & Cold weather
17 began to make Tobacco Hills crossing little new ground & Oats sewing
18 sewing Oats Hilling & crossing new ground weather more moderate sewed all my plant Beds over this morning ———
19. cloudy & Raining a little,
20 Started to Lynchg & had a wet time of it sold sold Lugs for $3.50 Hilling all time we were gone
23 returned being gone 4 days
24 Hilling & Plowing to day cloudy & like for Rain

1848 Nov. 2 Fed shoemaking made 3 pr alse pulling off corn at stack & feeding Hogs with slops
3 Henry Paid Mrs Neal $2 sent by me McC from Mr gone to mill Whites 5 Bus corn 1 Bus wheat for himself & 1 Large Hart log for Railing 2½ by 3 Inches Very large frost this morning Shucking corn to day alse & Jordan
4 Finished sewing wheat this day & bushing sewed about 28 or 29 Bushels - Housed 6 or 7 Barrels corn more began to Rain to day & this night Raining nearly all night wind Blows very hard, Fed shoemaking, -
5 Raining this morning & quite cool wind from N West.
6 Killed little Beef, Fed shoemaking Laying dining Room floor
7 Do Do & shucking —
8. Killed 3 Hogs put up first & Henry went to saw & Grist mill, Doct Whites 3 Bus. Grain & 1 Large Log for paling, 3 Lengths Got one Turnip off branch the largest I ever saw. weighs 7 lbs & 26 Inches in circumference Cool frosty mornings Finishing shucking Corn & Housing this day -
9 Went to saw mill again 1 Large Log for Paling 2 lengths pulling up Greens & apples this day -
10. gone to saw mill 1 Log for Railing Fed shoemaking alse at kettle began to Snow a little
11 Halling Rails shoemaking spining etc etc likely to snow or Rain
November 4, 1848 - December 7, 1848
1848 Novr 14 been Rain’g for 2 or 3 days. Faning out wheat yesterday & to day. Jane spining alse at Kettle still. cloudy & like for Rain,-
15th Went after Rent corn & fodder at Long Hill, -
16 sent Henry to saw mill after Timber etc. Brot it home & 1 Bag meal Began to cut Big growth in little new groundin new ground yesterday
17 Cutting again Henry gone to Cotton Jin 389 lbs Seed Cotton Sent.
20 making cow pen fence this morning pulling up Irish Potatoes etc. Fanning out wheat, clear & cool large frost
21 started to Lynchg with 37.40 Bus. wheat sold for ’90 - got back on Friday the 24th, while we were gone they Grubed till Friday Rainy day spun & shoemaked
25th Halling Rails Fanning out wheat cleaning out stables etc etc etc.
30. We have been grubing cutting some in little new ground & Halling Logs for Henry House This day making cow shelter in Lot Halling leaves & laying foundation of House for steers weather cloudy & not much Rain yet, Bot in all this year 22½ Barrels of Corn
Dec. 4 waggon House blowed down the 2nd Inst. Grubing for several days 4 hands Henry cutting Post & fork etc for waggon & Cart shelter
7- Cloudy & likely for Rain taking down middle House Tobacco
