1859 Feby 6th Tolerable cool day —

Feby 7th Monday Sent Henry down to Aspen Grove to Hall Stocks to Millers Mill for Hhds Staves etc Carry wheat & Corn to grind

9th Yesterday ^& day before we were Cutting fencing etc nailed boards on Jerrys Hen House, Henry has returned. him & Lowry Carried 8 Logs to Millers Mill, for Hhds Staves & Plank & Carried 1 Barrel Corn for us for meal ½ Barrel Do Corn & ½ Bbl wheat for Mr. Chumbly here & Carried 1 Turn wheat for aspen Grove had it all ground & brot home,- this morning still Raining & we are burning brush Cutting & getting Rafters & [sheds] for Houses etc,- - Mrs Neal here, Mr. Chumbly mended Sallies Shoes & Cut out mine

10th Mr. Chumbly made me a pair of shoes Henry Claiborne & little Henry gone to aspen Grove to strip Tobacco, cleared off Cold & windy Mrs Chumbly Sick all this week

11th Halling Rails to day around corn field fence Balance Cutting & Malling at overs =eers House cloudy & Snowing a little, at 10 Oclock, Sent Jerry Smith to aspen Grove with 1 lb Cotton for Malissa to spin & get wheat she has spun etc -

12th Raining a little we are Halling Rails & fencing, weather so disagreeable I did not go to meeting to day not being well enough for such weather Jacob not come yet from Lynchg

13th I went to Meeting to day- tolerable day Jacob Came Saturday night from Lynchg for his Lugs got 4.90 Seconds $5 & upwards & for his best got $8½ -

14th Cut & Malled wood to Day Henry halled Rails, around Corn field fence -

15. Cloudy & Raining a little this morning.

1860 March 27th weather moderated some Hilling to day Sent Henry to Faris's Mill 9 Bus. wheat for flour 1 Bus. wheat for Chop & 1 Small Log for Plank, etc Got 9 Bus. sent for flour & Plank

28. Plowing for Corn & Raking in new ground & cleaning up.

29 Plowing for Corn Grubing in new ground & cleaning up fine weather

30. I have been to aspen Grove, they are hilling down there in new ground fine weather We are Grubing in new ground & Plowing for Corn & trying to finish Mrs Hargrave here

31st finshed this morning & Halled Leaves & cleaning up new ground leaves halled in field ¬¬ – fine weather I went down to See Jim Faris’s property sold he is gone off nobody Knows where.

1st aprl 1860 Sunday Stayed at home.

2 " Halling leaves & Logs Out of new ground Set Leaves on fire this evening

3rd Halling wood Rails etc out of new new ground

4th Raining set Log Heaps & Leaves on fire Rained till 12 Oclock then cleared off we were striping Tobacco Came up a cloud Rained hailed & the wind Blew very hard Blowed down about 200 pannels of our fence & Hailed Smartly ¬– nearly burnt up our Logs 5th Have been ½ day putting up fence

5 Began to colter new ground at 12 Oclock Raking forking up manure to day – I went to aspen Grove Mt airy & Millers Mill,

6 Coltering Hilling for Sweet Potatoes Raking some, I went to Chalk Levela Lock& got

7. Halling dirt from Well Sent to Mill

15th June 1860. Bob gone to get Mrs Hunts Horses shod. Weeding down Tobacco I got back from CH to Dinner Mrs Hunt came from Mrs Colemans - bob gone to shop I staid at Mr Jones last night went back to CH - to day & Banks has my Rects etc to this day to settle — Bob brot for me 3 Bbls corn 3 sacks salt 1 Bbl Lime, salt from & some corn from Millers for me nails & Iron from B for Hunts est & Plow P[o]ints etc from Richmd. Card two Hhds Tobacco from Mr Hunts plantation = 16th Mrs Hunt Sallie & Alice gone to CH I went to see Betsy sick, & then to Sarah McCullock to settle acct between her & Mr J Mustain done so & then went to aspen Grove, they were cutting wheat in Lot & had cut Rye & it Rained as hard for nearly 1½ hours as ever I saw it got home about night, had to cross at Bridge by John Lewis s - some hail fell, did not do any damage,- till the Rain Plowing & weeding down Tobacco here, Rained tremendous hard & the wind Blew down a good deal of our fencing here,- & washed very much, We hope is Elvira is mending slowly rest all got out, like for rain again to night

17th Stayed at home all day Sunday

18 I went to Court settled my acct with Estate of JDHunt as Exer. - -Thined corn this morning Plowed young corn & wed it Layed by Irish Potatoes by Peach Orchard Laying Peach orchard Corn, broke fodder stack in upper Lot began to work Tobacco in evening.

1860 July 10th Mrs Hargrave went home yesterday Bob here this morning at work Just finished cutting Oats this morning soon, Jerrys has been gone without my Knowledge ever since Sunday evening Hilling up new ground Tobacco Henry & Harry Plowing young corn this evening — windy & drying to day

11th Raised Our Prize shed this morning Mr Bybee helped me about it Hilling up new ground Tobacco - Ben with Henry & Sent claiborne to work for Ben, very dry & Hot to day

12th Hilling up Tobacco & working on Prize shed, Ben here & Bob stays at old Place to day -- very cool & Cool & cloudy

13th yesterday I went to shields mount airy Josh Hubbards Pillcows Dawsons Lanes & my aspen Grove Plantation, etc - quite dry & cool this morning, send a Log to Millers for sheeting & 4 Bushels wheat for fine flour & 1 Bushel wheat to grind for me & to bring it all back & Palings & sheeting for prize shed — still cool & dry — only collected AJ Lewis Bond yesterday

14 went to aspen Grove brot wool Plank Honey Brandy etc etc home Finished hilling up Sweet Potatoes working Garden etc & gave negroes Holiday Bob has work at Mr Hunts Place & Ben here on prize shed etc for several days. Kate & Mr Moses came here, James Hunt came last night

15th Here to day went to Mrs Colemans in evening clear Dry & Hot

16th JD Hunt & myself went to Court in my buggy Our folks stoped Hog Holes around Corn field etc & began to stack oats worked Charly

1860 August 4th I went to Whiteheads Mill to see about sheeting Plank to avory Mustains for Grasty etc Hilling up new ground Tobacco & finished before night made Hog pen etc

5. I went to strait Stone, protracted meeting began & also one going on at Edgehill - -

6 Henry Hilling at work on Palings Lila sick in her House, tho she Spins some clem cooking balance butting Logs for Barn Henry cut 2 pines for slabs etc.

7th Went to meeting every day this week Nannie & Mrs Hunt & Sallie went to CH Monday morning To day Henry went to Millers Mill Brought home a Load of Palings & some sheeting & some flooring, Carried a Log we have 2 there now to saw 1 for sheeting & 1 for Square edged Plank & sheeting - balance worming Tobacco & getting up apples for Cider, etc weather dry & Hot -

8 they sent for Doct Thompson again for Emma 3 times to see her, called here Twice to see Jerry & Lila but did not come in the House We are getting up our apples to day & last evening - dry Hot weather

9. Henry nailing Boards On Clems & Rhodas Houses. Cutting in new ground Just began Butting & squaring Logs for Barn, -

10th Sent Jerry Smith to aspen Grove after 2 Bushels wheat for flour to carry to yates. Henry has gone after a Lamb & Harry meeting going on at Strait Stone,

11th Raining this morning. striping Tobacco Nannie Jere & Sallie went to meeting yesterday good meeting I & Jerry went to meeting cleared off about 9 or 9 Oclock —
