1857 Decr 13th Sent Henry to Faris s Mill 11 Bus wheat for flour returned & could not get it Halled wood this day - Cutting & Grubbing I went to Fannies to day see her, & Mrs Hargrave etc here to day fine day

1413th Fine day Sunday - clear & pretty

14 Cutting & Grubbing in new ground & Halling Corn stalks from fresh field Went to Clements to finish receiving corn got 33½ Barrels 5 Bbles at $2.75. 28½ Do @ 2.50¢ - bot & 1 Pot Rack 3/– Kate & Jacob got back

15th Int Decr Finished Halling up stalks & Sewing wheat where corn was stacked Finished grubing & went Cutting 2 or 3 days Corn House 16 feet long 10 wide & 10 feet High — is as follows – Divide by (11) =

17th Hewing Cutting etc & in evening striping Tobacco, when it rained ——

18th went to Mount airy to see about Hogs got none at this time get Boards etc Halling up etc etc

19th Riving Boards Cutting Halling wood making Cross way at new ground — Fine weather at this time ———— Halling wood etc to day Bro Mason at Straitstone on Sunday —

21st Killed Hogs this morning Sent Fed to Clements plantation to day – or Rather yesterday Sunday – Shelling corn & striping Tobacco in new prize Barn; - -

22nd Cut [and?] salted up Pork & overseers part Jerry gone Riceville etc

1857 Decr 22nd Jacob gone to Clements plantation this day ¬– & card things as pr account – Henry drove waggon with Jacob things this evening Claiborne gone with Jacob. Cutting in new ground, Jordan Halling wood for Miss Neals 3 Loads this day –

23rd At work On Ice House This morning Fine morning, Jordan gone to Mill at Yates 5 Bus. Corn to bring 4 or 5 Bus meal & 1 Turn flour home – Carried 1 bus wheat for Henry & 1 for Sandy & ½ Bus. Do for Fed. ground very wet —& quite Cool We have 2 Young Lambs at this time, & 19 Pigs

24th working on Ice House Halled wood & leaves Fixed Ice Pond above house, etc —

25th Snowing this morning & very disagreeable morning, snowed till 10 or 11 Oclock & then cleared off- I went to Capt Fitzgerald & hired Ann (F) for Fannie W Fitzgerald – etc for $25.

26th quite sloppy & wet,- Jerry gone to Mrs Hunts

27. Same sort of weather to day –

28 went to Mount airy - Still disagreeable weather Did not hire any body - at all – Lowry came home yesterday & hired Ann & 2 children for Fannie for $25. –

29th Raining this morning moderate weather

30 Raining this morning striping Tobacco in new prize Barn — moderate weather.

31st Lowry halling wood, Balance striping Tobacco cleared off, cool & windy - I went to Clements Plantation, = chumney came down here to day to see when he can move — —

Janry 1st 1858 Sent Henry after overseer Daubing Ice House & Cutting in new ground

1858 Janry 2nd, Cutting in new ground Henry come home this evening with overseer went to Mill, 2 Bags Corn Halled wood & Leaves in evening - cleaned out stables

3rd Fed went to Jacobs, Jacob came here

4th Went to Mrs McHaneys Sale burning Plant Bed above House did not quite finish

5 Raining this morning a little & they finished burning the Plant Bed Sewed all burnt 4th & sewed the One burnt 1st Decembr, & put Hog Hair on it

6th Striping Tobacco somewhat injured in new prize Barn to high, cleared off I am going to Miss Sarah J McmcCullocks = 5 Lambs & 19 Pigs to this day - - Finished new prize Barn & took some in old prize Barn to day - cleared off pretty

7 went to Mrs Hunts & sent to Mrs McHaney after Our things bot there — Daubed overseers Finished plant Bed & sewed it ¬

8 Cutting & Halling wood to day ¬

9th Grinding up Cobs Corn etc etc & made, Homminy etc. I went to meeting, Mr Plunket is Pastor at Strait Stone this year 1858. Jacob came down & got 15 or 20 lbs Guano for Plant Beds Burnt & finished up there this day - moderate weather, Jacob has began to Plow, etc - let have 4 quarts meal. ¬

11th I went to Divide Mrs McHanys Land Sent 2 Bags corn to Mill & brot Cart from Mrs McHaneys & left them at Yates & brot home 3 Bags meal for us & 1 for Overseer

13 I went to Mrs McHanys to Divide Land no commissioners Came yesterday, striped out jerrys Crop Tobacco & took down old prize barn & striped to [water stain] halled out straw

1858 Jany 23 Began to cut at overseers House yesterday cloudy & like for falling weather ———

- 24 I went to Fannie W F. & have got off the sale of Clem. She is now mine this 25th Jany 1858- Cutting & Halling wood=

26th Rained a little in morning Kate & Sallie went to Plantation with me, waggon went & Kitty, etc etc, Sent Hogs & Cow, Burning Plant Bed above overseers spring

27 Henry Plowing in Tobacco Lot balance Finishing plant above overseers spring clear this morning & Beautifull weather Hunt Sow had Sometime ago 9 Pigs went to Cutting in new ground after 12 Oclock

28 Henry goes to Plantation to work Horses to waggon Cutting in new ground, Sent by Henry & Claiborne cow to Plantation Clements

29th Plowing on Branch, Finished Cutting in new ground next to mountain Spring, - cool & windy weather

30th Nannie & all gone to Riceville to meeting cool & windy weather, cutting up at overseers House my Hogs up last night dont come up regular

31st I went to Mrs Hunts Nannie went Riceville

February 1st Raining this morning cut awhile & worked on cross way above prize Barn Striping Tobacco at 11 Oclock Lowry gone to Jacobs & claiborne here

Febry 1st Cutting next to overseers House & halling

-2nd Cutting worked on road above new Barn Finished little growth at overseers House

3rd Halling 4 Logs to Millers Mill to day for Railing & Palings for garden, Butting Logs at Fresh ground carried 1 Turn corn for ourselves & 2 Bushels for overseer to Millers Began to Mall & Burn Brush at new ground this morning fine weather [water stain] Lambs to this day

4th February 1858 Begun to Rain about 10 Oclock last night & sometime in the night began to Snow Horses runaway coming back from Millers Mill yesterday& this morning Snow 6 or 8 Inches Deep has & we are striping Tobacco, & putting snow in ice House,= to day= Trees very full of snow & Roads stoped up, cloudy & like for rain all day

5th Snowed & Rained last night a little & cloudy this morning, Striping Tobacco at new prize Barn, one she[e]p Died last night

6th Part cutting wood Henry & Jordan Halling wood from mountain, fresh ground Halled wood at Chumblys & 1 Load of wood to Mr Neals Found part of our Hogs over on the mountain next to Mr Pringles, but could not get them home Clear day not very cold, Snow melted but little yet

Febry 9th cutting up by overseers House Henry Compl= =aining. Pal. Sick Doct Thompson came to see Pal Pal. has very Soar Throat, - my Hogs gone again Jacob got ½ lb Cotton for Kitty to spin,Cutting & trying to get done by overseers house cleared off this morning & windy & cool, we hope Pal is a little better, Halling wood,

-10th. Cutting & finished by overseers House Halling wood to day & halled out Straw - Turned cold in evening my hogs gone again found some of themto day -

11th. Malling at mountain Spring alse burning Brush, nannie gone to Mrs Hunt to night very cold this morning, 14 Lambs to this time Henry has been complaining for 3 days & in house

12th Began to Snow this morning Sent Jordan & Buck to hall 2 Loadswood for Miss Neals Shelling corn making Bro[o]ms etc etc not very cold — Wind N,E,- nannie come back in the Snow this morning & Horse threw her & Jerry at the gate flat on the ground & did not hurt [water stain] Snowing yet late in evening Corn shelter broke to day & took 2 or 3 hours [water stain] at 2 oclock in evening about 4 Inches
