We took up position on the west side of Chickahominy River until the night 30th May amid a downpour of rain we broke up camp, moved down Darbytown Road in mud and water 31st May three o clock (afternoon) they put us in action, we left many of the poor boys dead and wounded on the field, among them was our gallant Capt Malken(?), Colonel Bratton was wounded and fell into hands Yankeys (sic), he was a brave and good colonel. 6th Regiment, 86 Vols(?) commanded by Col Bratton (?), May 31st, 1862, at Battle of Seven Pines, buried in action, 629 men killed, 88 wounded, 781 total 267, our loss being little (underlined) over half.

Vol. Commanded by Col John Bratton May 31st 1862 battle Sevesi pines carried in action 521 men killed 88 wounding 181 toal 2611) in this engagement our loss was little over half we went in at 3 oclock faught until dark 6th Regt S.C. Vols and the 3rd Battalion 4th Regt 5th Regt Palmetto Sharpshooters composed R.H. Andersons Brigade afterwards Jenkins then Brattons this Brigade, Andersons and Willcoss [?] and Featherstones Composed Longstreets Division at [?] Mills June 27th 1862 and Fraziers Farm June 30th 1862 this Division carried in action 8832 men killed 776 wounded 3435 missing 237 loss litle over half This Division first commanded by Gen Longstreet then by Gen Pickett thereby Gen Hood last by Gen Field) after seven days fight around Richmond the 3rd Battalion 4th and 5 Regt was consolidated and formed 5th Regt commanded by Col Asburry Coward the 6th Regt and Sharpshooters was recruited by the conscription act Co. [?] Anderson's Brigade

(4) ajutant Gen was kild, we moved on to the Potomac river, then Fredrick city [?] then to Hagers Town position back to boonsborough gap on 14th Sept and faught until dark that night we moved back to Sharpsburg and on 16th this was a hard faught battle our numbers were greatly ovr matched, Gen Lee it is [?] not have but 35000 men to put in this fight [?] put in action 60000 men it was a squar hand to hand fight and [?] til 4 oclock in the evening, the confederates had 8000 lying on the field kild and wounded Yanks estimated their loss at 12000 The Yanks did the [?] it appears as if both parties had [?] and we crossed the river to Va once more and the Yanks did not attempt to follow us We took up camp at Winchester and remained there until Nov then to Culpeper 6th and then to Frerikcburg on the 16th Dec 1863 the yanks attack us a gain and we licked then to [?] the cold weather found us picketing a long the west bank of the Rappanonock river many of the boys coming in from [?] and hospital , our ranks began to fill up [?] but just strunk how many of these poor fellows that would [?]
