I have found the reason none of this [years?] appropriations has yet arrived. It has been retained I suppose to come into the hands of my successor, who has been appointed in the person of Elijah Steele Esq of Yereka. He is now here will leave for the Reservation in a day or two. When he returns (say in & on 4 week) I expect the money will be here and your claim among the oldest will be paid. Some of the cattle I bought from you have [illegible?] back.

I believe I have certified to the correctness of your claim, so I hope you will soon get the cash. When you write to me if after this [week?] direct to Yuba City.

I shall urge the payment of your claim immediately.
