Ok so, here's the Satans review for this issue.

Satans 9/9/94 Hole In The Wall: Sean is the single most rockinest drummer I have ever known. Mysteriously, he never breaks anything. Heath is a rock star, cranking that guitar/amp connection. Brock holds down the rhythm fort without even breaking a sweat -- or messing up his hot hairdo. And Hunter is the perfect frontman, raisin' hell and forgetting his lyrics. There you have it. The Men. The Satans.

THEN: Some guy named Justin had a party at Emo’s on Sunday 10/16. I don’t know him but he had the Satans, the Motards & the Cryin’ Out Louds playin’ his party, so he must be cool. I got sick of Emo’s before the Motards & the COLs played, but I did catch the itty-bitty Satans set. They’re good to their fans at least, they played most of their hits in the (?) 20-minute show. They did the Guido Sarducci version of Slugger - just one time through. It left me wanting more, but I was pleased (albeit drunk).

Zeen Seen...

ALCOHOL DRUGS AND DRIVING #2: This issue is a reading oddessy. [sic] A perfect companion at 3am (the perfect time) at Ken’s Donuts (just about the only place open at 3am). Chock-full of intriguing articles & entertaining news clips. Both educational and motivational. Includes Bargain Bin (about neat things for free in the library or cheap at thrift stores), a Texas mass murderer profile, New England news on News-of-the-weird-style candid camera, a paranoid tale of credit bill collectors, a surprising survey by Parade magazine and instructions on how to build your own atomic bomb. Free and easy. (AD&D, C/O ALTERNITY PRODUCTIONS, PO Box D, Austin, TX 78713-8904.)

APATHY TREND #14: I haven’t read many of these, but I sense a really straightforward attitude. It gets a little hardcore for my taste every once in a while, but basically it’s got some great reviews (mostly by Chuck) and a quote at the beginning of each just to kinda get you on track. So read this bitch & learn something. Free, too. (A-Trend; 912-A W. Elizabeth, Austin, TX 78704.)

GEEK WEEKLY #2: Meatier than the first issue. Written at a frantic pace & botched in places as a result. Apparently the author will be giving issues away for 25¢ each (or will trade for just about anything) instead of the 50¢-rip-off of an initial charge (for 1st issue). Back issues available upon request.

[image of a soda with two straws] PEEK-A-BOO #1-9 [underscored]: I’ve had issues 7 & 8 since they came out & I just got issue 9 & the BOX SET of issues 1-6. I guess I’ll really just review issue #9, but I want to say that as a body of work, this zine is fucking beautiful! Great things in every issue and it keeps hang in’ on. Hasn’t disappointed me yet. Issue 9 includes an interview with Dave of U-236, some good reviews, an interview with a “real” vampire, some what-ifs, a cover of April & Molly, Kegfly & yet another funny installment of the best advice column in the world. I worship these people especially Travis H. Get one — it’s free. (PAB, 305 W. 39th #107, Austin, 78751.)

MASSAGE PARLOR #2: Excellent writing, but I liked #1 better. (No Address)

U-236 #14 - Seen it in passing. A bitch to get ahold of. Love this zine! (2303 Rio Grande #6, Austin. 78705.)

ANTICHRIST - All issues I’ve seen are shit! Crap! Bunk! Bad, Bad, Pretentious, Bad.

FOUR MILE CIRCUS #1: A zine on loan from Susan (some guy sent it to her from Oklahoma City). I haven’t finished it, but it looks intriguing. Includes “Wierdo Manifesto,” some poetry, a feature on John Zorn, etc. . . But it’s $2.50!! Ick. Maybe Susan’ll let you borrow it next. But if Mom & Dad are paying your rent, or you just made a big drug deal, here’s the address: (John Stone, 1602 S.W. 77th Place, Oklahoma City, OK 73159.)

SO YA WANT SOMETHIN’ TO DO? [bold]

[An image of a soda splashing with two straws is in the center of the page, the rest of the page is divided in to four sections labeled FOOD, CAMPIN’, BANDS, and TRUCK STOPS]

[top left quadrant] There’s no good food in this fucking town. Actually, you can go to Mezzaluna & get good Italian & there’s some really FOOD [bold] good Mexican but if you just wanna, like, eat some fucking food, you’re out o’luck. Might as well go to Taco Bell & save your money for something’ else. Or you can always cook!

[top right quadrant] This is the heart of the best camping in the world. This is the right time of year, too. My favorite places CAMPIN’ [bold] to go are Reimer’s Ranch, Krause Springs & Paleface Park. I think they’re all in the phone book & they’ll give you directions. Usually about $5 per person.

[bottom left quadrant] We don’t have any really good venues in Austin right now, but we’ve got lots of good bands. See these: Satans, Inhalants, Dropouts, Cryin’ Out Louds, Motards, Sons of Hercules, Big BANDS [bold] Drag, Gut, Pork, Jack O’Fire, Hormones rock [written above “.” and “I”]. I can’t think of anyone else right now. But there’s always movies at Dobie & Hogg —> esp. Jackie Chan movies [underscored]! Oh! And the Village, too!

[written along the left side of the line dividing the bottom two quadrants] Go see Gomez rock [written above Gomez]!!!

[bottom right quadrant] This is when we realize that Austin sucks (when we’re bored) and we try to flee its limiting grasp and find ourselves in, yep, a truck stop. But sometimes it’s all you can do. And TRUCK [bold] truck stops STOPS [bold] are cool. Crazy things always happen there. Here are my favorite 2: Dorsett 221 (South on I-35 to exit 221) & Mel’s Diner in Giddings. Also the Petticoat Junction truck stop in Brenham was cool, but I haven’t been there in a while.
