Meeting June 21st 1865 Annual conference of the M.E. Church. One duty is to witness the examinations and other exercises of commencement week, and make report thereof to the next session of our conference. Our response to a Resolution of your body this morning we will briefly state the result of our observations also to you. We commenced with the first examination which was held on Friday last, and have witnessed almost every one of them until their close upon yesterday. We have had the same access to the examinations for the whole collegiate year, had we chosen to avail ourselves of them. Our present observations extend only to the last terms studies. The range of examinations were the whole study pursued, and was not limited to any special department of such study. The examinations were written, and oral. In each case the student was thrown upon his own responsibility, and into the hands of the visiting examiners. The students evinced an ability to recite topically, and independently of questioning. They were generally self reliant, yet without pedantry. The results, as we have received them evince ripe scholarship, and earnest labor upon the part of the faculty, and this without exception. Respectfully, J.W. Stanley J. Crook Receipts for the year ending June 21st 1865
