8 The Master at Arms

to the Captain at 9.15.A.M.

He is to place in the Captains cabin every morning at 9.15.A.M. a list of the and men in Hospital. also a list of men absent without leave, the number of hours so absent is to be stated, also a list of men absent with leave, the reason for leave being granted to be stated against their names, and whether they have been granted special leave before in the month, and if so, how often, and its duration.

He is to report to the Commanding Officer at Quarters for inspection or of none at 9.-15.A.M. that the Chronometers are wound up or not as the case may be.

He will pay particular attention so that the regulation respecting lights and pre cautions against Fire are adhered to.

He will before allowing any intoxicating liquor to be brought on board, no matter for whom. enter it in the permit Book and obtain the signature of the executive officer so is signifying his approval of it.

The Permit Book will be kept by him Men on board on Christmas day to be allowed Beer in moderation.

The Master at Arms. 9

He is responsible for the cleanliness of the Boys. inspecting those under 17 years of age every morning at the expiration of Breakfast time. Boys over 17 years of age provided they are cleanly are not to be inspected. He is to take care that the Boys use the Port Bath room every Friday evening.

He is to make himself acquainted with the residence of the men and on any occasion of their being suddenly required is to be sent on shore to inform them.

He is to be responsible that the fresh water tanks are cleaned out on the first Tuesday in each month as laidc down in the Special Routine.

He is ti inform the Quartermaster when the leave of men granted special leave expires, in order that a boat may be sent for the special leave men at the appointed time. The senior Quarter Master on hand will do the duty of the Master at Arms when the latter is on shore on leave or on duty

An additional copy of the defaulters Book is to be kept in the Office and is to be called the Fair Defaulters Book. The entries in it are to be made by the Master at Arms.

The Chief Boatswains Mate. 15

At sea He and the Second Lieutenant will keep the Forenoon and First. Afternoon and Middle watches. between them.

In Harbour he will be in charge of the upper and Main decks. and the ships side and be responsible for the general claenli ness and tidiness thereof.

He is to be on board every alternate night except on Saturday Sunday and heneral holidays.

He is also to be on board the night before clean ship day. and any other night the senior ex ecutive Officer considers it advisible.

He with the other executive Officers will take turns in taking charge of the Ship at night time in the absence of one of the regular Officers.

He will keep a correct account of his stores and see that they are properly and econom ically Expended.

He will muster the Boats gear every Friday Afternoon and will see that it is complete.

He will conduct the instructions in Sea manship of the Boys under the Senior Lieutenant.

In the Summer months the Boats at the Davits are to have their covers spread over the inside of the boat.

He is to be responsible for the condition of the Fore hold
