FRIDAY 4
Company went down near Orderly Room to build officers mess. Remained in tent - reading. After dinner we played Bridge and 500 until tea time. Tea finished we went for swim down to the Somme very cold, but enjoyable. Retd had supper, then continued our game of cards until midnight.
SATURDAY 5
Woke up to find it steady raining result no work. Played cards until dinner time. After dinner I went up and played cricket until tea time. 40 Reinforcements arrived from Blight [Blighty, England] jammed in the tents now occupied therefore making them very uncomfortable. Continued cricket until 9pm. Supper - cards, then turned in.
