In the matter of the Estate of President, Brigham Young decd.

Petition for Probate of Will

To the Hon. Elias Smith, Probate Judge for Salt Lake County, Territory of Utah

Your Petitioners, George Q. Cannon, Brigham Young and Albert Carrington, of said County of Salt Lake, herewith present to this Hon. Court the last will and testament of President, Brigham Young, late of Salt Lake City, in said County, deceased, and also a codicil thereto, and show and petition to said Court as follows:

That said deceased departed this life in the City and County of Salt Lake, Territory aforesaid on the twenty ninth day of August 1877, and was at the time of his death a resident of said County of Salt Lake, and leaving estate therein and in several other Counties in said Territory of Utah, the value of which is to your petitioners unknown.

That your petitioners are named in said will as executors thereof.

That James Jack, David McKenzie and Joseph F. Smith,

of Salt Lake City, (the last named, now temporarily residing in England) are the subscribing witnesses to said Will and William Rossiter, of Salt Lake City, James G. Bleak and John W. Watson, now residing at St. George, Washington County, are the subscribing witnesses to codicil thereto.

That your petitioners cannot definitely state the names of all the heirs and devisees of said deceased, but they principally reside in Salt Lake County.

Your petitioners now come and ask that the said will be admitted to probate as the last will and testament of the said deceased, and that Letters Testamentary thereon, be issued to your petitioners

Special Letters of Administration

George Q. Cannon, Brigham Young and Albert Carrington in accordance with the order of the Probate Judge are hereby appointed special administrators of the estate of President Brigham Young deceased until a certain document filed in this court purporting to be the last will and testament of the said deceased shall be substituted to probate and letters testamentary issued thereon or until general letters be granted, with full power and authority to collect, and present from the executors or administrators all the goods, chattels, debts and effects of the said deceased, all incomes, rents, issues, profits claims and demands of the Estate [wherever it appears?] the charge and management of and to enter upon and preserve from damage waste and injury the real estate in whatsoever county or counties the same may be situated and to exercise such other powers in the premises as may necessary and requisite and as are provided for by law
