sorry that she got off at Midway Ky. I heard one of the girls say that Margaret would be fined a dollar for talking to me — as it was against the rules for the girls to do any thing of the kind while traveling. I helped her off with her

baggage and so passed a little incident. Things became monotonous again. The only releif being that I was in familiar country and nearing home again. The old lady — my protegée whined a a great deal, and I jollied her along. She

opened up her heart and gave me an orange and some candy. Very nice for me. At last reached old 7th St depot — 1 hour 50 minutes late. Feeling bum. Took a walk up fourth Avenue, seeing great many people I knew. It was great

sport to take the old street again. Surprised them at home — all glad to see me — including boarding house lady, Mrs [Brashear]. Ate dinner & then did some telephoning. Called up Julius & made a date to spend Christmas morning with him.

[Comingor's] had asked me to call up, so I did so and Bessie invited me to her dinner party on Saturday, Dec. 26. Called up Virginia's & she made me promise to eat Christmas dinner with her. Accepted that also. Called up Grace, and
