Dear Sir, We hand you herewith a list of the so called "Alabama" claims we have in hand & for which either you or ourselves hold the agreements & powers of atty. The amount, $4,532,060.87, is respectable & will be still further increased by claims the control of which we are promised & which we shall get without doubt. We have since you went west through Mr. Beaman arranged with Messr' Bradford & Folger Boston to take charge of all their claims sharing Commos. with them, & have stipulated in our agreement not to seek further for Boston claims but to leave the securing of them in their hands, which you will please note & oblige. They have in hand already our $300,000.- & expect to get an amount equal to that in addition.
We think it best that you should hold all the agreements & powers & we therefore enclose all that we have taken here up to date as per mems. on the other side.
We also enclose the acknowledgment of the State Department for the documents & remain
Yours truly Barling & Davis

Dear Sir, We have your favor 29th this morning. The name of Genl. Davidson is all right, his claim is for personal effects & it was prepared here. We think it would be well to furnish us with a list of claims in your hands for Ins. prems. paid as we as we have entered al ours up, & if we don't get them it will do no harm. Note you were going to Boston to day, & that Mr. Beaman could not meet you.
Yours truly Barling & Davis
