Cape Foulweather Light Station Oregon. Laborers at work making road from the Site of Light House to the sand bank on beach. Road about 3/4 mile long - Left this city September 21 to inspect this station and Yaquina L.H. returned to this city September 29.
Probable work in October. Will commence excavation for Tower - Commence construction of quarters for men and arrange for landing of material.
Cape Hancock Light Station Wash Ty Light Keepers dwelling - built by C.F. Brown contractor - Frame is up - Roof on- Building enclosed and about 1/2 done.
Probable work in October Building will be sided and plastered.

Sir:
I have the honor to state, that in compliance with Letter of September 12 from your office - regarding the construction of the iron work for the Tower at Cape Foulweather - Oregon - my action was as follows - October.3. I wrote to Calvin Nutting & Son of San Francisco, inclosing plans and specifications offering them the privilege of making the iron work - if it could be done at a price proportionately less than the amount they received for similar work at Pigeon Point viz $8850.00 coin.
During my absence on duty, a letter and proposal were received from Calvin Nutting & Son copies of which are herewith enclosed.

Nutting & Son - offered to do the work for $9390.00 coin - a price greater than that charged for Pigeon Point.
I therefore declined their bid and as per authorization in your letter have sent advertisements inviting proposals for this work, to the following newspapers.
Daily Chronicle of San Francisco, Cal " Alta California " " " " Oregonian of Portland Oregon Date of 1st insertion October 30 No. of insertions _6_ Bids to be received until noon - November 29 _ both here and in San Francisco by Colonel Williamson
