Sir:
I have the honor to submit the following report of operations for the month of December 1871.
Yaquina Light House Oregon
Carefully inspected in regard to imperfect protection from storms, as alleged by Light Keeper.
Probable work in January
Make requisition in detail for repairs (or improvements) needed
Cape Foulweather Light Station, Oregon
Inspected material purchased at Newport, Oregon. Made trial excavation to the depth of 20 feet below the natural surface to ascertain as what depth a rocky foundation for tower could be secured.
Prospected for, & made arrangements to secure suitable gravel & broken rock for concrete and rock for rubble work, for foundation of Tower.
Probable work in January
Such work including inspection & delivery of materials as the weather will remit

Probable Work in February Complete drawings of Light House, make engineer's description. Make detailed estimate for improvements.
Cape Foulweather Light Station, Oregon Made survey & estimate for Flume to furnish supply of water. Made drawings & tracings for stonework for L.H. & for iron-work for scaffolding. Made partial inspection of metal work for L.H.
Probable work in February. Such work as the weather will permit.

Cape Hancock Light Station, Wash Ter Made drawings of Light Keepers Dwelling, as completed. Commenced plans for new oil house.
Probable Work in February Complete plans, & make estimate for new oil house.
Cape Flattery Light Station, Wash. Ter. Made arrangements for immediately resuming work on excavation of cistern & transportation of stores if weather permits.
Probable work in February Excavation of cistern. Transportation of stores from Neah Bay if weather permits.

Cape Foulweather Light Station Oregon Removed a portion of the materials at Newport, so as to protect from salt water. Made drawing of reservation for surveyor
Probable Work in March Preparations for Spring work. Surveying L H Reservation.
Cape Hancock Light Station, Wash. Ter. Completed drawings of finished keeper's dwelling.
Cape Flattery Light Station, Wash Ter. Excavated cistern to the depth of 3 ft below former bottom.
Probable Work in March. Continue work on cistern. Transport materials if weather permits.
