1862 March 10th began to Rain this morning Rained till 10 or 11 oclock Shelled corn & Thras= hing Oats, Henry went to mill in evening got 100 feet weatherboarding from Mr Glenn carried 4 Turns Corn & 1 at Mill making 5. we hope Milly Ann & Charles we hope is better Mr Wyatt did not work here but one day last week & has not been here this week at all

11th Doct wooding came again this morning to see Milly Ann & Charles we still hope they are better - Jerry come home, bot a horse from Miss Susan Crews $170 paid for him etc Henry Plowing, Smith went to Yates Mill 2½ Bushels wheat for flour, did not get it to day Balance cleaning up new ground next to Mrs Whiteheads. Daniel Hunts John Run away from Bailiss & Came here last night I went to Plantation to day. tonight 249 lb fodder from Jorden etc @ 3/-

12th Charles & Milly Ann Poorly claiborne halling wood Henry Plowing balance over in old field

13 Milly Ann & Charles still bad off Henry & smith cleaning fence to hall rails, Bob claiborne & little Henry gone to Plantation to Roll Logs, I am Poorly myself at this time, wooding has not come, began to Rain about 11 Oclock, - Rained all the evening

14th. Jerry H Graves & John Richard Whitehead started from here for the army this morning Capt Thos S Flournoys Company G of Calvary 6 Regiment Co. G., now at Manassas, - cloudy this morning & like for Rain. Doct wooding has not come yet Milly Ann & Charles bad off. Thrashed oats last evening & this morning finished all in house Claiborne Halling wood balance malling Rails. Smith burning Brush in new ground -

15. Raining again this morning. doing but little, Milly Ann better. Charles very bad, shelling corn —

1862 March 15 Rained very hard. Creeks high

16th Milly Ann better Charles bad off yet cleared off last evening clouded up about night & Rained a little, this morning clear & cool Sunday cloudy & like for more falling weather

17th. I went to Court & back had Mrs Hunts will proved except one codicil, Bybee & worsham witness, Henry finished plowing & wended out some oats finished grubing in Piny old field, & worked some in new ground,about to day & tomorrow all the Malitia is drafted & volunteered in the Confederate Army –

18th Malling in new ground, I went to Plantation They are sowing oats down there to day. Poeple moving off to the army. great confusion amoung the poeple. Charles is getting better. Mr Wyatt has gone for the army & left his work not much more than half finished. -

19th. Sent Bob & claiborne to old place to Roll Logs. Henry Sewing Oats till 12 Oclock then plowing for Irish Potatoes & Planted little Patch at corn House Smith & Henry Raking fence Row at new ground began to Rain before night, charles bad off yet

20th Bob & claiborne gone back to old place to Roll Logs Henry Sewing Oats little Henry splitting wood both plowing in Cotton Patch this evening, cloudy & looks like Rain Smith Sick puking him to day Milly Ann better Charles bad off –

21st Claiborne Halling wood balance malling wood manured Plant Beds to day - charles bad off yet wooding came again to day Smith sewing to be tolerable well as yet¬

22nd. Putting up new ground fence I went to Plantation to day got Honey & vinegar, Milly Ann & Charles better Smith & Mary sick too.

23rd Went to meeting Mary quite sick, Smith not very bad off Milly An better Charles bad off

24th. I went to Plantation, Frank putting up chimney there, the sick Just so. sewing oats to day –

1862 March 25th I am going to Mrs Hunts place Mary & Charles very bad of[f] Halled up stack fodder this morning Sewing Oats - quite cool to day Charles Allen Died this morning a little after Sun Rise, Ben & Elvira both taken quinsy we are in hopes not bad, tho cant tell, Mary very bad off Smith & Milly Ann Better, Pallison at aspen Grove taken with same complaint this morning & Doct wooding went to see him with me Ben & Henry made Charles Allens coffin little Henry Plowing till 12 Oclock claiborne halling wood. Bob Halling oats & shoeing the Horses all this week, Snowing Smartly to day & night

27th. Expect to Bury Charles Allen this morning done Beautiful morning, clear & moderate, sewing oats Bob triming apple trees to day. Ben Milly Ann, Elvira & Smith & Mary very bad hiring & Pal. sick at Plantation, 29th wooding & Barksdale here to

28. 29 our sick Mary very bad - 29 Rain[in]g again

30. Mary Died soon this morning Ben & Mr Chumney making coffin cloudy & like for Rain Thundered, - Elvira Pal & Ben sick, El. very bad here & Pal bad off at Plantation

31st. Pallison Died this morning before day sent Henry & Bob down there Bob gone this morning to see Kelly Jno. & Parham Lewis & Capt Johns to get them here tomorrow to appraise Mrs Hunts things; Plowing for Flax & Oats Sally Ben & Elvira not much better –

1st. Halling wood seed flax seed, & some oats etc.

2nd began to sew oats at Vaughans, also chumney at Plantation sewing at Vaughans too. Halled Rails there & fixing fence, appraised Mrs Hunts property to day, cloudy & like for Rain

3rd Sewing oats at Vaughans & so is chumney Bob winding & clearing oats claiborne Bushing in

4th Raymond taken sick yesterday, give him a Puke of Ipecac salt & Molasses & in evening give him a Dose of Calomel & Ipecac & this morning oil he is tolerable the others getting better Doct wooding went to Lynchg yesterday Sewing oats at Vaughans Place let Chumbly have 3 Bus to sew there, - fine weather Smith & bob at raking over at new ground in old field Sent Bob for Doct Perrow in evening he came

5. My wife gone to CH. Bob carried her took down all our Hams & shoulders this morning raining some to day cleared off in evening Raymond Poorly Henry & Harry Halling rails around Corn field fence Claiborne raking – – –

6th My wife came from CH. Mrs Hargrave Died on Thursday before she got up there

7th. Doct Perrow came here this morning by light Miss Mary Coleman commenced teaching schoolto see Raymond, he is yet bad Elvira at old place& Ben mending slowly - Raining our Burning Logs Trash etc in new ground next to Mrs Whiteheads continues to Rain smartly

8th Raining this morning Making brooms Baskets etc daubing Houses till 12 oclock Henry went whiteheads Mill 7½ Corn for meal, balance cutting & malling wood, in new ground, still cloudy & like for Rain, Raymond I hope better -

9th. Raining & cool have not seen the sun since last Sunday & quite cool, cutting & malling wood some to day - Rain stoped them, Raymond we hope is better

10. We hope Raymond is better, cleared of[f] this morning cutting malling & halling wood to day My wife gone to Mrs Colemans to day –

11th. Sent Henry to Millers Mill 7½ Bus. wheat for flour, 1 Dutch Plow Hoe & 1 Colter to Pint Sent Iron he is to get Plank & shovel, Bob & Claiborne fencing next to Mrs Whiteheads little Henry sick & Buck at Plantation; fine morning, Raymond I dont know how he is, others better I hope cut Mrs Doves childs Jaw again

12th. Marked yearlings here this morning. Putting Logs heaps together this morning - then Halling manure, - etc etc to day - Raymond Poorly yet the others & little I hope is better, Sent 2 Loads out straw to aspen Grove for cows. Buck sick with throat at plantation for 3 days. Doct. P. Cameto see Raymondagain

13th. I went to meeting to day by aspen Grove Buck better, Raymond & all we hope are better here Raining this evening -, Raymond Poorly

14th Doct Perrow came again Halling out manure Bob gone after Danl Hunts negroes at Mr Overbys to day, Raining a little

15th Raining a little this morning. Halling out manure we hope Raymond is better, claiborne sick.

16. Doct Perrow again to see them all, Halling out manure, claiborne sick with quinsy – finished halling out manure to day 12 oclock

17th. Henry fixing Sweet Potatoe Patch, & laying of[f] corn ground to List. claiborne & all we hopebetter

18th Bob here this morning been gone after Ellen four Days. Henry & Smith fixing corn Land. Planted Sweet Potatoes yesterday Bob & little fixing lot fence scattering manure

19th. Raining a little Plowing about Lot. brot 3 Turns meal, Halled up 2 stacks fodder Halled up a stack Oats to day —

20 Rained in evening I went to CH. —

21st. Court day Rained till 1 Oclock, then I came home, water courses very high our sick we hope is better, Milly Ann complaining some, our folks halled 2 Loads wood yesterday –

22. Halling rails to day on road next to Creek. & then around our corn field. cleared off

23rd. Cut & spayed 15 Shoats here this evening by Mr Owen Mark 3 yearlings here turned out 1 Bull give out ½ Barrel corn to Plant at Plantation, Sent note to Doct Perrow to day to see Raymond River so high left note at John Gilberts, got up 11 shoats to alter at Plantation
