29th We are toping our Tobacco this morning Plowing & Hilling up our fresh ground Mr Chumbly & Henry at work on Granary - I am going to plantation, Nannie Sallie went up to New Bethel yesterday got home about night

30th I went to CH. done nothing. yesterday We are at work on our Granary Plowing & Hilling up fresh ground Tobacco

31st I went to old place yesterday - at work on Granary Hilling up our fresh ground Tobacco cloudy & likely for Rain

August 1st Mr Wm L Pannill stayed here last night Finished working fresh ground Tobacco to day Plowing Lot & Hilling that up Finishing Covering Granary this evening, Rained this morning –

2nd Mrs Hunt Came back yesterday & Bob this morning Overseer & Bob making Doors Hinges etc finished working Lot Tobacco at 12 oclock Henry brings from aspen Grove to day 2 stacks fodder & 1 stack oats in evening Carried Bull there, fodder & oats is to sell, Claiborne & Henry down on Creek choping on Ditches etc, -

3rd Thrashed out our wheat here got done before night Top Tobacco on road. finished making & Hanging doors to Granary, choping in Tobacco on road working small plants

4th Sunday night Augt Patroled all night all of us but Mr Adams from 6 till 3½ in morning

5. Mr Chumbly & Bob at work on Granary Carried Machine to John Hodnetts, choping out Tobacco on road Henry toping this evening

5. started machine out to Mr Jno Hodnetts Ben with it Mr Chumbly & Bob at work on Granary topping Tobacco finished choping out Tobacco on road & went down on Creek –

6th finished Granary all down on Creek choping Sent Smith to mill for overseer - fair day.

1861 August 7th Sewed Turnip Patch this morning Nannie went to Mrs Colemans last evening & stayed all night choping on Creek in corn finished Henry Carried Log to Millers Mill for Granary & Brot Home all the plank we had there Sent 2 Barrels Corn for meal

[in margin]th Finished covering Tobacco House on road, choping Hilling old field Tobacco, clem washing ¬–

[in margin]th working Hilling up Tobacco Sent little Henry [to?] whiteheads to machine wheat [in margin] Began to working on machine to make molasses [O]verseer Henry & bob Henry & bob went to mill [?]t Millers this morning - Finished worming & succoring over tobacco Cutting down Pines & clearing over next to whiteheads got 2 Bbls meal to day.

[in margin]th Sent Mr Chumbly & claiborne to Strait Stone to [f]ix association, Sent 2 axes to Jump & sent 1 [?]mp & they are to find one & 2 axes to upset [in margin] Mr Chumbly, worming & succoring lot this morning [cu]tting down Pines Henry examing meat [to]ping Tobacco & then cutting with others. Bens [ma]chining out wheat at Mr Wallers this morning

[1]3 going from Wm H Wallers to his Brown plantation [in margin]tting. Henry & little Henry gone to Strait [S]tone again Chumbly & claiborne at work on mollasses Press to day — I was called up last [n]ight after midnight to go Capt whiteheads to [s]hroud him only sick since Saturday night [in margin] or Three days. Dipthreia or sore throat

[1]4th We went to Capt whiteheads funeral clem to aspen Grove & Brot Kittie & Chaney up [h]ere, cutting down & cleaning up new ground over next to whiteheads - chumbly & 2 or 3 others fixing molasses press till 12 Oclock, going after Fan this evening.

15th I went to Aspen Grove took Henry last night laid foundation of negro House then fixed molasses press Cutting in new gound etc Sent Smith to Faris s mill 2½ Bushels wheat for flour

16. Raising Double House at aspen Grove for negroes, Raining in evening –

17 Rained nearly all night & at it this morning chumbly sharpening grub Hoes & making s[ta?] for Granary - Ben stoped machining at Mr Faris s & did not get done on acct Rain

18th Raining yet & warm fine weather, Miss Sarah McCullock from Capt Whiteheads Funeral home with us -

19th I went to Court. Rained at night, cut big bo[?]

20 Rained last night went to assocation to day Miss Sarah McCullock here & Mrs Hunt here too. wet time for association all my children here Monday night. & Mary James too & to night 9 messengers from asso. here,-

21st cloudy this morning & like for rain wormed & toped over our Tobacco covered one Plant Bed & Halled leaves etc etc yesterday & to day now some will go to meeting & some cutting

22nd I went to meeting at association our folks Cutting, Bro Burroughs & Miss Laura Hazelwood came with us, to day we are cutting I stay at home & my wife goes to meeting, chumbly & his wife going - cloudy & like for Rain

23rd Rained last evening & night cutting to day Sent over to Mr Hunts place for things got in Lynchg by Bybee, Miss S. McCullock here yet Miss Sarah McCullock went home this evening found Fannies mules at Wm Tuckers.

24th Fine growing weather toping & working our Tobacco to day succoring & worming etc etc Hester proves not to be in foal by Colo White Horse Esau, finished Tobacco.

1861 Augt 24th Finished over Tobacco worming Toping & Succoring & went to Cutting Logs for Little House in yard etc.

[2]5 I am sick stayed at home all day.

[2]6th going to Mrs Fitzgeralds myself claiborne gone to Mrs Pannills to Raise Granary setting up 2 Hhds to day Balance grubing in next years corn field to day - Mr Chumbly & Henry set up 2 Hhds to day & Henry went to aspen Grove & Loaded waggon with 1 Hhd [lost in margin] cake of fine, & then came here & got a cake got 2 Bushels Corn from aspen Grove 75 lbs oats [&?] 100 lbs fodder Cothrans Crop Mr Hunts Est. waggon

[2]7th Henry started monday morning 26th 2 Hhd started this morning & likely for rain to Lynchg with Tobacco from aspen Grove Cothran Hhd & a Tub, of fine 2 Bus. Corn 100 lbs fodder 75 lbs oats, carried a small cake from home [&] his own in a Box,- our hands Grubing in Corn field & Mr Chumbly & little Henry & Bob Hewing ps for House,

[2]8th Raining a little off & on good part of the day Working on work house Halled some wood I went to Plantation in evening - shelled a little Corn

[2]9th Raining again this morning, shelling Corn, Rained till nearly 12 oclock working on new House Chumbly Henry got back about night warm & went ———

30. I went to CH on Business of Est. Our folks worked on work House Daubing Covered & got the Boards. Henry waggon to aspen Grove

31 at work in Tobacco all day toping worming & succoring - I went to Fannies to settle her business with her overseer Walker in 1860

Sept 1st I went to meeting at Strait Stone -

2nd Halled pieces Brick to finish chimney to new House Sent Smith to Yates with wheat for flour I am going to Wallers & Plantation to day –

1861 Sept 2nd Finishing worming & toping & succoring Tobacco & then going to work on new House, floor finishing chimny etc to day

3rd working on new House began Plow & Hillin up Fresh ground Tobacco wormed Tobacco in morning I went to Riceville over Jacobs Plantation owen who wanted to rent did not come, I went to Fitzgeralds & Lewis s -

4th Finished fixing new house except putting on Lock gathered dryed Peas grubing etc Henry & Horse gone to thrash wheat at Mrs Panills & Vaughans on same Terms, & then went to aspen 4th Grove this evening

5 cloudy & like for Rain but the hands is all gone but Charles to Plantation to Machine wheat. Rained & we did not do much at it. Rained tremendous in the evening hitched Molly to the machine & she worked prime to it

6th. Working on road this morning round to new Granary & then worming & succoring Tobacco Rained again this evening I went down to Mrs Hunts place to see about renting it out they want it another year Mr Hubbard & T Timpleton

7th maching wheat at aspen Grove & finished We all went to meeting at strait stone & by aspen Grove & come home Kate here

8th I am unwell & did not go to meeting Jerry Came here cloudy & like for rain

9th. I am still unwell & stayed at home till evening & went over to Mr Hunts place to see Ellis who is no better pulling fodder here to day after digging some Irish Potatoes in the morning & Putting up some hogs in pen old Sow Boar & a big Hog in other pen 2 together to Kill worked on road this morning Henry did

10th worming & succoring Tobacco this morning We may pul[l] a little more fodder this evening
