to be sawed into square edge & Divide

6th Sent same day 2 Bags Cotton to Pick 102 lbs bags & all, - & got slab Plank for steer stable -

7 Finished steer & cow shelters etc Halling wood Sewed wheat where corn was in field Cutting wood for Plant Bed -

8th Shrubing on Branch & Cutting in new ground

9th. Sent Henry to yates Mill after flour & meal & then he went to Plowing on Branch Cutting & fixing to burn Plant Bed left side of Road Had to send claiborne after Rolands toll wheat

10 – Burning Plant Bed here & at aspen Grove & at Mr Hunt Plantation to day Henry Plowing this morning

11th. Sewed Plant Beds & covered here at aspen Grove in slash & also one at Mr Hunts place before Bybee moves at Hackworths,

12th. Shrubing & Plowing on Creek to day, Bybee has moved & sent for Owen to day

13th Sent claiborne to day to John Hodnetts after Pork for Mr Hunts Est. their teams gone after Thomas Owen, nearly all day Edward H Doss quit my business on Friday the 13th without my consent & without giving or having any understanding about it,Put up Still in House to day here,

14 Halled another stack fodder from Creek Plowing & Halling wood Cutting –

15 went to Aspen Grove read to negroes etc started to Court in evening –

16. at CH Chumbly made bolster to waggon Henry Plowing balance cutting & Halling wood to day 17th chumbly going to move to aspen Grove to day, expect to Kill kill Hogs there in the morning

17. chumbly moved to day, delivered keys this evening Cutting in new ground,

17th Decr I never saw as fine weather in December before hardly in my life dry & [road] like a Plank floor nearly.

18th Killed Hogs at aspen Grove 23 in number let Chumbly have 3004 lbs his finding & ¾ over weighed out for Doss 182 lb. has to have 68 lbs more Salted up 1657 lbs in Smoke House from Plantation took nearly all day & pt of night -

19 Dove my overseer moved here this day Sent 4 Bushels wheat to Yates mill

20th. first sent to Millers could not get it, left, Bag Cotton to Pick 58 lbsHenry Plowing on Creek,- Cutting Halling Rails next to Whiteheads - till 12 Oclock & then Halling wood

21st Henry Plowing & expects to finish on Creek Claiborne Halling wood Balance grubing in new ground I went down to aspen Grove to day they are covering the House building for negroes The Past week has still been fine weather turned cold last night, but still fair.

22 Turned cold & in evening rained a little

23 Killed our Beef Cow Milly weighed 325 lbs & killed 3 Hogs weighing 506. quite cold all day Cut out & salted up our Beef & Pork filled Straw Rack & put up some fencing etc etc

24th Shrubing in corn field, Halling Rails etc etc - Cold day I went to aspen Grove to day.

25th Stayed all day at home, turned cooler

26. went to Capt Gilbert old place to say what Here of negroes & Rent of fund was

27 My wife gone to Mrs Colemans Give all the negroes some meat flour & fat Kitty had a Blanket Lowry a Hat. clem a Blanket.- very cool weather –

28th I went to Fannies to day to see about Mitchell they have parted I fixed the papers tho I did not see Mitchell at all very fine weather for time of year

30th Decr 1861 Shrubing on far Branch next to Mrs whiteheads. Henry Plowing Halled Load of wood to Kill Hogs I went to Mr Gilbert to meet Capt wooding to fix report of Capt Gilberts Estate, - fine weather —

31st Decr Killed our Hogs at home this morning weighing nearly 2200 lbs & salted them up Bob Halled 5 Barrels Corn from Tom Templeton yesterday & to day for Mrs Hunt my waggon Frank Mr. Gilberts Man came to work on well.

1861 Janry 1st Frank with Henry & claiborne commenced taking Rocks outs of well, - little Henry Plowing, overseer Bob & Jerry Smith Shrubing in corn Land, Fine weather at this time – negroes Had Hats Lowry at aspen Grove & claiborne here, clem had a Blanket Kitty a counterpane Lila had a new counterpane claiborne Little Henry, Pallison & malissa has pss carpet, - Jerry Smith Abram caps - Pal a cap. Frank Mr Gilberts man, stoped cleaning out our well this evening before night & says it too dangerous is afraid it will cave in & Kill him there is a Hollow place one side four or five feet in to the side & the ground is cracked etc etc

2nd Janry Mr Dove went to Help Mrs Mullins move her House, Henry Plowing balance Cleaning up corn Land on Branch

3rd I went to Sarah McCullocks & aspen Grove, they are burning plant Bed near overseers House we sent 2 Turns corn & got meal & Dove one Turn Henry Plowing Finished shrubing corn, but have the apple Trees etc to sprout & Trim yet -

4 Cutting wood for Plant Bed Halled up 1 stack fodder from field at home Henry plowing – Rained last & to day trees full of Ice all day & very cold, My Big spotted Sow & Board to day together.

1862 Janry 5 likely for snow or Rain this Sunday morning

– 6 - worked on Ice pond Halled some leaves — sent down after boards at aspen Grove

– 7 Burning plant Bed to day on right side of road to Creek - Henry trying to Plow right cold this morning - Fannie here & I may I am going to Sarah McCullocks & Plantation this morning - ground too frozen to Plow. Fixing there to burn Plant Bed above House, Henry Plowed some to day,

9th Finished burning & covered & fenced plant Bed right hand going to Creek& sewed it to day Cutting in new ground Henry plowing -

10th Taking down prize Barn Tobacco this morning - moderate weather took new Barn & halled it to prize Barn, Halling leaves in evening 2 waggons & cart

11th We went to meeting to day - balance Cutting

12th weather warm went to meeting

13th. Henry Plowing. claiborne Halling wood Mr Dove fixing waggon Rocker, balance cutting Mr Wyatt came this morning to work on Room he is going to move, getting sills & Planes -

14 Began to Hail & snow yesterday & kepted on last night, & at this morning Mr Wyatt left & we are striping Tobacco in prize Barn to day. weather falling nearly all day. Killed last hogs at old place

15th cloudy & like for falling weather striping Tobacco

16 I went to Plantation striping Tobacco Mr Wyatt Came & finished hewing & went home last night

17th Cutting in new ground to day halled weather boarding from Granary.

18th Cutting Halling wood, sent Bob to F. Blanks to Roll Logs Sent Smith to Millers mill with 48 lbs Cotton to 1 axe to uput & Fillmore to shoe before with new shoes. Charles Allen gone to Chalk Level Papers. - weather moderate, little cloudy this morning.

19th. cloudy this morning. Rained ½ Doz times yesterday & not much after all, smith did not get his Cotton 48½ lb seed. not very cold.

20th Mr Wyatt here, our hands Cutting in new ground to day very moderate weather to day

21st Sent 2 Turns Corn to mill brot from Do 1 of meal striping Tobacco all day. cloudy cold day & like for rain all day Mr. Wyatt gone home this morning Disagreeable days, but striping day ¬

22nd. Halled up Timbers for shed room this morning Cutting in new ground to day cloudy & like for rain

23rd. Cutting in new ground, cloudy & like for snow or Rain, 8 or 9 Lambs at Plantation. I was there yesterday - Roads Dreadfull at this time

24th. Raining Hailing & snowing - Halling wood this morning - striping Tobacco Very Cold last night - & rough to day snowed Hailed & rained & such a day we have not had during the winter scarcely ¬– – – –

25. Rough morning. cleared off in night. striping Tobacco to day - claiborne mended Ben shoes yesterday. Charles Bobs mends to day very sloppy

26 Tolerable clear & cold this Sunday morning 4th Sunday; snow & hail melted smartly yesterday.

27th Sent Charles to Chalk finished Cutting in new ground & Halled wood steers & Horses Henry sick to day. 28th Henry still sick cloudy badweather

28th. Stoping Ice pond malling etc in new ground I am going to Plantation to day –

29th Putting up Pillars for shed Room Mr Wyatt here this morning John Clark helping awhile, malling in new ground fine day cleared off. Mr Edmonds negroes stayed in Rhodas old House this night Rounded & Jointed some shingles this evening Sent 6 Turkeys 5 Goblers & 13 Doz Eggs by Mr Wm Vaughan to Mr Garrets at Mr. Cobbs to sell for use to day,

30th. Raining this morning, striping Tobacco.
