18th61 Sept 10th Pulled by Old Cocopin by apple orchard.. & then worming succoring & toping Tobacco over again – Put old sow up & boar

Sept 11th Started Henry to Lynchg with 2 Hhds Tobacco from aspen Grove Plantation made 1860 by Jas H Cothran, finding 2 Bus. Corn 75 Oats 75 lbs fodder toll $1.25.

12. Working in fodder & Tobacco.

13th Stacked 2 stacks fodder here finished Pulling yesterday tying up & working in Tobacco, - fine weather for fodder –

14th Succoring & toping Yobacco. Pulling on Creek tying up etc etc.. went to Mr Monroe yesterday, & back in evening – tying up Henry got back & went on to aspen Grove got Hhd good & 1 cake Lugs & negroes Tobacco & feed, & will carry Jacobs froms Kates When he goes over, - have put 3 or 4 stacks here & 4 at plantation to this time,-

15 Nannie & all went to Mrs Colemans. I went [to] Prayer meeting, fine weather –

[1]6. Sent Bob to CH. after Mrs Danl Hunt. stacking fodder Pulling & tying up to day Sent to mill for myself & chumbly too I am going to Plantation & Mrs Hunts place

17th Raining last night put on Lock on new House, cleaned wheat 1 Bushel, Cut Oats for Lynchg worming & succoring Tobacco & toping tyed up some on Creek Pulled down yesterday & hung on stalks Mrs Danl Hunt came this evening Tuesday Rained again this evening before Bob came

18th Furnished 75 Oats & fodder 75 lbs toll 1.25. Corn 2 Bushels for this trip, & expect to start this evening Pulling fodder this morning all Hands - clear fine morning

18th Sept 1861 Henry gone this evening

19th I start to Lynchg to sell 3 Hhds Tobacco & a Cake sell negroes & Jacobs & get money for 2 Hdds mine & 2 Hhds of Mr Hunts Est sold sold sometime ago by R[?] Pulling & saving fodder

21st I Returned from Lynchg & waggon & sent waggon to aspen Grove, while we were gone to Lynchg finished pulling fodder on Creek & stacked 2 stacks fodder & wormed & succoring Tobacco

22 I went to Prayer meeting & its discontinued on acct of Brethern & Sisters not attending

23rd worming & succoring Tobacco cutting tops stacking & attending to Blade fodder on Creek. Mrs Danl Hunt going away to day Bob Halled stack oats bot of H Bill @ 2/3 pr 100. & bot another stack at same price to be halled shortly –

24. Cut some Tobacco worming & succoring & got up fodder on Creek & stacked 5 stacks to night

25. put up 3 stack more on branch making 10 stacks down there, cutting Tobacco, we have 26 stacks fodder here, in all, cutting & shock Tops & finished yesterday evening ¬

27 Real rainy day, & wind high & towards evening the Wind Blew Tremendous Hard. Blowed down every shock of Tops in the field one tree in the yard & broke several One scaffold of Tobacco etc good deal of fencing also & top of shop we have cut over ps Tobacco on road & nearly done the ps of old Field, White had a cow calf last night. Very likely –

28 went to Riceville rented out Jacobs P. Graves Land to James East pr Bond, - Jas McHaneys Hogs in corn on Creek this evening putting up Fencing & top fodder to day & cutting Tobacco by Chumbleys House.

29th Sept 1861 went to Strait Stone no meeting

30 Housing Tobacco in prize Barn, nearly got it full cattle Dying very much about. We have not lost none yet. fair pretty weather

Oct. 1st Henry & myself going to Plantation after a Land of Corn for meal, Danl Hunt wife Bob Carrys to CH to day

Oct 1st I went to aspen Grove got nearly 3 Barrels Corn for ourselves & 2½ Bus for Chumbly & sent to whiteheads mill brot home 1½ Bus Rye firing Tobacco & Cutting wood & fixing prize shelter to hold Tobacco, Halled wood to burn

2nd Oct Kittys child a Girl born Mrs Stanly wormed & succored Tobacco over firing Tobacco Gathered some few Peas & Snaps seed to day I went to Mrs Fitzgerald & old place to day Rained in evening

3rd Digging Potatoes Irish Cutting Timber for Corn House, gathering snaps & Peas Henry went to Faris Mill got 6½ Bushels wheat from him for thrashing wheat & brot home nearly 3 Bushels Do from Penicks for Do & then went back to whiteheads & got a load meal for me 12½ Bus. & 2½ for chumbly I Sent to Chalk Farthings & H Faris Tan yard & got Leather for Jacobs Boots & 2 sides for Estate JD Hunts Est –

4th began to make molasses out of sugar cane made rather a bad out. Jacob P. & his wife came here to day - fair weather, Miss S. J McCullock come again in the evening

5. Finishing our sugar cane to day Charles is going to Chalk Level this morning

6 I stayed at home, this Sunday Prayer meeting at old Place Bybee sick & sent for wooding

7th Stacking Tops here & Done stacked at aspen Grove

1861 Oct 9th after stacking Tops Gathering Snaps on Creek & working on sugar cane, I went to aspen Grove Yates & Mr Millers to day & old,place =Raining to night in the night –

8th Hanry carried waggon to shop, Miss mary Faris at weaving this morning ¬Gathering Peas till 12 Oclock & then cutting Tobacco here I went down to aspen Grove Fanned Out & Measured out 32 Bus. wheat to sew in 2 Hhds sold EH Doss 11 Bus. 2 other Hhd full 1 Barrel, & then screan in Box –

9th Cutting & Hanging Tobacco I made molasses for Mr Hunts Est. about 4 Gallons

10th Cutting Tobacco & Housing on Road Henry gone to Shop after waggon got it Smith went after Jacobs P. Boots made by Farthing Jacob here now & has been since last week, Fanney & Nannie went to Chalk Levelyesterday

11 Cutting Hanging all our Tobacco & finished Housing, Sent Jerry Smith to Faris s with 2½ Bushels wheat for Mr Farthing I went to Capt Whiteheads to appraise his Est. - did not get Done,

12th We all went to Preaching Capt Gilbert & his wifes funeral Preached Bro. P. & Mason Bob complaining this morning & Ben Carried Mrs Hunt to meeting

13 Sent after Doct Wooding for Bob he came I went to finish appraising Capt Whiteheads Est. waggon & Cart Halling Corn over Creek halled 10 Loads stack & all to day

14 Halled corn offer Creek halled 11 Loads not half done yet fine weather made about 3000 sticks of Tobacco upwards of 5000 at spend Grove fine weather They Begun to sow wheat at aspen Grove

13th Oct. Doss overseer

15th Halling Corn offer the Creek Bob sick yet

16th Halling Corn off Creek, 17th trying to finish Halling corn of[f] Creek to day Rained last night, — Roland here to mend Pride & shoesDorans Boots - got 4 Caps 6½ soles & thread

18th Halling corn all day off Creek did not finish

19. Sent Smith to mill for overseer Halling Corn yet off Creek, Rained again last night Finished at Dark halling corn off Creek took all the week, & done nothing else

20th I went to Court - this evening

21st began to sew Rye Halled up Pumpkins from Creek & halled up Corn where we sowing Rye

22 Raining a little most all day fired Toba cco Shelled corn & done not much

23rd. Hewing Logs for Corn House Jim Shields here to get boars but got none I went to old Place & aspen Grove. Turned my Sow old one that I had put up to Kill

24th Sowing Rye Halling wood this morning Cutting down for Rye Began to Sew wheat this evening

25. Plowing on Creek to sew wheat sent down to aspen Grove for Bull & Cow & Calf getting Logs for Corn House,Genl Cabell & Mr Whittle stayed here all night Electionering for the Senate of Va

26 Sowing wheat on Creek Riving boards etc 28th Oct. John P. Hunts starts to school to Kate S Moses @ $6 pr month Board ¬ Dug our Sweet Potatoes to day Plowing for wheat on creek. I went to aspen Grove to get flax

29th. I went to Tan yard & Chalk Level, sewing wheat on Creek, Halled up 1 Stack fodder from Creek halled one Load Rocks for Corn House gathered dryed Peas etc etc on Creek, Mr Overbys children here Bob went after Hops to day
