15. Bud Faris sent for help to Roll Logs Could not help him Henry sowing oats. I am going to meeting. Federick cutting gutter for Malissa House to drain the water off -- Phil gone to mill. Just commencing sowing oats this morning tho have been preparing the ground for 2 days.

1845 ^{March 18th} Sewed 15 bushels to this night Fed gone to day to Roll Logs to Mr Neals Set yams this morning for [name?] to plant. Planted goard seed Paid Mr Moon $115 in all the other $10 I dont Know that I shall ever pay him without being compelled because he did not finish my ^houseat all & some he did do was not done workmanlike

1845 August 20th. Raised barn at new ground this day 22nd Henry this day gone to Doct Whites Mill with wheat corn & a stack & is to bring my Palings Home Fed sick yesterday & day before — Succoring & toping Tobacco this day

26th Picking Turnip Patch & finished Hilling up Lot at Henrys house My wife son Jerry & nurse Ann started from home on yesterday Sunday to go to Charlott cty V^a on a visit to Mr Overbys & Moseleys with Mrs Hunt - Fanny White sick - fine rain yesterday Sunday

27. cutting on Branch & grubbing Mr Lewis spayed 14 shoats & cut six & Turned out 2 young sows & 1 boar Mrs Scrugs put cloth in the loom - My wife did not start to Charlott till Tuesday morning & Pleasant came here same day about 12 & stayed till next evening making ladden etc etc

28th Grubbing & cutting Henry getting slab timber I went to Jno D Hunts & Mrs Hunts, my dear Nanny been gone ever since last Sunday to charlotte, — time seems long

29 Topping succoring and worming Tobacco today - started a letter to Colo Smith about over our

1845 Sept. 1st Covered in Tobacco House & began to Pull fodder here at Home -- Mr Taylor & Birchet Came at night to commence painting our House ———————

2nd Sept Sent for my wife. Just returned from charlotte Mr Taylor & Birchet Painting outside House - Pulling fodder

12th Finished Pulling fodder at stony point Painted the roof of our House this day

17 Painters Finished this evening

18 Painters left this morning Succoring Tobacco & cutting tops etc this day

20 & 21 I am sick & failed to go to meeting at Strait Stone

22 Picking Turnip Patch, Halling Rails & wood Phil gone to Rice Lila spining Balance cutting Tobacco

20 Sent to Mrs. Hunts for some flour which she gave my wife, flour Bbl full

1845 Dec. 21st Sunday a bitter cold cold night & morning snow yet covers the ground — Earth like a Rock so hard frozen

-22. yet cold & snow melted very little cutting — new ground & spining Burning Brushing

23- Fair & tolerable Pleasant Cutting in new ground & Halling wood.

24th This morning snowing gone to mill shoemaking & shelling corn real winter weather & has been ever since 1st Decemr 1845. Rough on every thing Snow melted very little that — first fell & covers many Homes^now Snowed nearly all day, not very fast Hailed some, weather not very cold this night- nearly done cutting down on Branch & have cut 20 yds wide & 100 yds long in new ground of little growth,

25 Cloudy all day. Weather a little more moderate my wife gone to Mrs Hunts Halling wood for Christmas this day _clear

27 a Beautifull day & my wife gone to Mrs Smyths, clear clear

28 A little cloudy tolerable cold snow melted very little been on ground 2 weeks

21 Snow Hail etc about 4 Inches Deep severe weather, striping Tobacco

22 Fair & cold striping Tobacco Snow between 4 & 5 Inches Ice on Tops We have 7 Lambs lost 2 at Stony point

23 Fair & weather tolerable, we are striping Tobacco in Middle Barn Trying to finish that House this night

24 We cutting in new ground not quite done, weather moderating
