1848 Feby 26th gone to mill ½ Bbl Buck wheat & 2 Logs 1 for square Edged Plank the other for Railing 2½ by 3 Inches.

27 Fair day & good weather for winter my wife gone to Mrs Hunts etc etc

28 fencing Halling Rails at stony point

29 Rolled Logs Plowing & Raking leaves in little new ground,

March 1st finished Rolling Logs with our own force & began new ground fence

2nd This morning snowing, spining etc Snowed all day, its now 4 or 5deepInches very disagreeable weather indeed

3rd Halled up stack Oats this day & seed Oats a few days past - spining & shellingcorn Hail & snow about 8 or 9 Inches Deep

4 Treading out2 stacksseed Oats to day Fed shoemaking. Lila & Jane spining Sent 2 Horses to shop to be shod new shoes before old ones nailed on behind Fair day & moderate weather snow melted but little yet, my wife been sick with toothacke|tooth]] nearly all weekache etc. took Physic this morning

5 Cold & windy snow melts slow Bled Malissa this morning

6 Sent Henry to Rice for molasses, Jane & Lila spining. Fed shoemaking ann spining. fine day over head

7. Burning Log in big new ground fine day over head very sloppy.

8 Burning Log Heaps & halling wood

9 Raining this morning spining & doing but little, - very wet about this time,

1848 May 6th Send Henry to mill 10 Bus. corn & 1 Bushel Buck wheat picking up roots & Hilling this morning pulled cockle out of fresh ground wheat

7 Gust last night & night before hard Rain & wind —

8 put up fencing prizing Tobacco & replanting corn. Ground wet Henry plowing on Branch in lot, My W gone to Mrs Hunts. Mary H Coleman sick I went there last night in night. She was some better — Very hard Rain about 3 oclock to day also last friday & Saturday

15. Finished our new ground, replanting corn coltering second yrs ground weather cool & fair,- Planted snaps etc etc & Hilling second yrs ground

16 Finished replanting corn, Plowing

17 Hilling up second yrs ground prepared ground for Peas & Greens Plowing for Tobacco — in Lots

18 Hilling Plowing - Plowing corn in Lots at home —

19. Kit gone to Lynchg for me prizing Tobacco - Hilling yrs landsecond Planted Pea Patch etc —

20_ Halled up stack fodder prizing Hilling etc Planted Tobacco this day

1848 June 15. began to Lay by corn with Plows yesterday on Hill by cotton Patch - Plowing fresh ground Tobacco this weather dry & cool night

16 - Spayed & altered 21 shoats yesterday Scattering manure in Lot & Plowing for Tobacco. Very dry & warm & ground hard, laying by corn up on the Branch above house, weeding Tobacco in big new ground — Lost 2 Turkey & young oneHens

17. Weeding Tobacco, Laying by corn 1848

18. Sunday like for Rain but did -

19. began to cut wheat to day - weed– =ing down Tobacco in little new ground not plowing much more till after harvest Mrs Hunt Sick & my wife gone there no Rain yet to do any corn

20. cutting wheat & weeding Tobacco On Branch Mr Wm Neal helped us wheatcut

21 Weeding Tobacco & Laying by corn at home, several little showers Rain for a day or Two but not to do any good weather very dry — yet (12 oclock

22. Finished cutting wheat yesterday Last of stacks in Fresh ground over the drain next to Barn 111 or 112 stacks this way first cleaning 68 69 stacks in the old Land next to Mr Lewis’s in Johns field stacks - finished Lay by corn at home by 12 oclock.

1848 Sunday 17th Sept cloudy & like for Rain my wife gone to Mrs Hunts

18th Cut over little new ground & little side of Fresh ground in first 225 in other 150 sticks.

19 Cutting still in second yrs ground this day sticks 450 Our Ram got with the flock yesterday. clouday night

20 Cut thisday200 sticks in second yrs Ground & 470 sticks on branch & lot

21stcutting all on branch & 550 sticks —worming & succoring Tobacco & Halling rails for fodder stack frames

22. Gathering Peas tops etc etc.

23 Frost this morning stacking tops. quite cool this morning

24th a little frost this morning clear & cool ——

25. no frost this morning stacking Tops & Done this evening clear fine weather 2125 sticks sticks of Tobacco cut in all first cutting

26. Housing Tobacco filled new ground barn & middle barn at home & someto goin prize barn the 27th Sept 1848 —

28. cut all our good Tobacco in Lot etcSent to Doct Whites Mill 7½ Bus corn & 1 Log for Railing for yard Hanging Lot Tobacco which we cut yesterday began to Hall & House in prize barn

29. Housing Tobacco, cutting in big new ground & Lot by Granary & Halling wood more Pines in woods & old fields every where this summer & fall than ever was seen one summer before since I could recollect

16 Sewing wheat in fresh Tobacco Land Henry gone to Doct Whites mill 1½ Bbls
