Notebook contains kept by Benjamin Waterhouse (1754-1846) while he was attending medical lectures and studying at St. Thomas's Hospital in London, England, in 1775. Waterhouse's notes include lists of symptoms to be attended to in all cases, such as checking the pulse, eyes, tongue, and urine, as well as charts of patient case histories, with the time admitted, name, age, symptoms, and medicines administered.

June 8th Richard Flown 64 Has got as Dr Fordyce terms at an Apoplexy of the spinal marrow he was taken suddenly with the loss of the use of his right leg & thigh which are paralitic he has had great pain in his back as also costioness. This is a very uncommon case in palsies generally come on slowly all we can do is to give stimulants Vol Alkal Vr Rx Vol Alkal gr xo pro dos. Rx Epsisas femur app. Rx Haust Olios hara Somni

June 8th Jn.o Moody ... In working hard to load a cart put himself into & violent sweat without puting on his cloaths after & lay exposed to the air in consequence of which was siezed with Rheumatism, he has been bleed & stimulants given him at that time which perhaps has prevented him from getting well, if the disease had been left to nature perhaps he would have been well by this time. There in something singular in the pulse which is very irregular without much disordering the functions of the body- he sleeps Rx. Mist Febif.
