Dearest Friend Miriam:

I had a swell visit with my sister Anna and brother Francis yesterday. He told me of your recent letter to him after he and his wife missed the board meeting for MD because he had to work on that particular Wednesday eve., and that you mentioned in your letter an invitation for Sept. eight. It dawned on me after he left that his will will be at Marshfield, Mass., vacationing over the Labor-Day week-end but I forgot to ask when she'll be back. Francis will be down there at Brant Rock too ( a relative of his wife invited them - and their children - to the spacious rented cottage in Marshfield ) but Kerry will be back on Tuesday Sept. 7, preparatory to attending the Court hearing on my petition for Habeas Corupus starting on Wednesday the eight, -- this hearing may last anywhere from two to ten days --.

Bill, my attorney expects to see me before the hearing date, probably one day this week.

Of course, my very dear friend , I was happy to learn of Dr. Meyer and particularly the maxim " to have a constructive composure '' because, where I now feel as though I have something resembling a constructive composure, it wasn't always that way with me, my feelings not only used to be hateful but vindictive and although these feelings radiate out and affect those closest to you , the one that suffered the most was the originator, yours truly. And I must say I've been severely tested these past few years , ala Fratus etc., so I'm sure now that I could never yeild or lose constructive composure.

Hoping this finds you in the very best of Health and Spirits.

Much Love Always John

Dearest friend Miriam:

Well, I spent five days altogether at the Federal Court. I think that perhaps today my attorney Bill O'Halloran will get his copy of the Transcript of that hearing.

The next step is : on or about Oct. 18, Bill must file his BRIEF with this same Court and my guess is we may get a decision on our petition in late Nov. or Dec.................

I expect to see Bill within a week or ten days and that will give me a chance to get his thoughts on the hearing -- I know he scored a lot of good points -- I want his feelings RE: the points that the opposition scored.........

Brother Francis visited last Sunday and he told me his wife Rita phoned you during the hearing. As you probably know, their boy Kerry, whom you've met is at Fort Dix, New Jersey for his basic training -- he certainly is a solid , level-headed young man -- and you can bet he is going to go on in life and be a great credit to his town Framingham.

Will your own schedule remain as full as ever now that we approach Fall & Winter ( we surely have some beautiful Indian Summer days coming ) and if you have intentions of visiting in Vermont this winter don't forget to take along a pair of non-skid shoes. tee hee .....

Will catch you again soon with Very Much Love,

your always John

Dear Miriam,

I was so glad to hear that you were going to Vermont - particularly at this time of the year - You hit it just right and had, I hope , a perfect Indian Summer up there.

My brother told me how much he and his wife loved the meeting of MDAA on the thirteenth and you have no idea just how awed and impressed he was with the way you 'Chaired' the meeting.

I was very happy to hear that you were in touch with Mrs. Ehrmann at the time of my hearing because she was there practically every minute ( and her husband was there one of the days ) and I'm sure they were not fooled by some of the STORIES they heard from the witness stand. I can't begin to explain how grateful I am for the Erhmann's very staunch support - as yet I haven't had a chance to tell them, ( and would probably be lost for words if I did get the opprotunity ) my feelings of thanks and gratitude. Pease pass along my very warmest ....

As you know, the courts opened in early Sept., and its the busiest time of the year for Attorney's in criminal courts. I believe this is the main reason why I haven't heard from Bill O'Halloran since the hearing. He is swamped with work, but I , of course , am certain he'll be in touch with me soon. At this moment I don't know what his thoughts are with regard to the points he scored at the hearing and with regard to the points scored by the opposition.

May this find you in the very best of Health and Spirits, and much love always John

[left] Dearest Miriam,

Your beautiful letter of the 12th arrived, or rather was delivered to me this morning. I had previously received, in very good time, yours of the 27th October.

Believe me I thought it was very sweet and so very thoughtful of Mrs. Marcin to "ring in" little Dona on the anniversary of your coming home from the hospital.

So nice to hear that you had Mrs. Ehrmann and her neice at your home for luncheon and, that the young lady is going into a field to which you have devoted so much of your life. I know that she must feel quite honored and fortunate to have your friendship -- which means your support too. (and you certainly do have some connections.)

I truly loved the book by your great friend Helen Bryan. Its been more than a year since I read and returned it to you, yet, much of it is still vivid in my mind -- but I cannot say the same thing for many another so-called 'good book' that I've read.

My wonderful friend Miriam, your encouraging words about my strength & spirit (considering the circumstances) are gratefully received BUT I would not be me if I were to refrain from telling you that I know I am but a candle-power compared to the light of your love and strength and courage and it is this knowledge which gives me courage.

[right] will catch you again soon,

With very much Love always - John
