Van Zant, Paris, Texas, says: "I have found your preparation of Pepto-Mangan (Gude) to be all that it is represented. Truly as palatable as milk, yet containing all the properties of the incorporated drugs, and have used it with uniformly good results."

Eliza Hill (wife of Jas. Hill) went to the "Garfield" Hospital in Washington today. H's wash woman was here. I went to store & P.O. Afternoon went to Ashton. Edwd went to "Longwood &c." Wm Wilborne was here to get some supplies for his telephone. After supper I went to Brown's store and to Fairall's office.

Ther. 32° Thursday, January 16th Wind Variable. 16 Days Past Cloudy. 349 To Come June 28, 1901. Dr. G. W. Bailey, Waterville, Minn., says: "I have used Gude's Pepto-Mangan extensively, and the benefit has been so marked that I have had no trouble to induce the patient to continue its use. When I have prescribed other preparations of iron or when the patient has procured a substitute for Gude's PeptoMangan, there has been little or no good done and the patient has refused to continue the treatment on the grounds that the iron disagreed with them. Not so with 'Gude's.' In every case of anæmia where I have used it there has been a complete restoration to health."

Cloudy & feels like rain. Edwd went to near Brookeville to repair broken wires for telephone Co. home to dinner. Afternoon Fred Sinyard called & paid the ballance due on his account. I went to store & P.O. morning & afternoon. T. S. Stabler telephoned to me this afternoon. Hallie Lea called this morning. Since sunset it has cleared off again, although very little below freezing After supper I went to Fairall's office.

Ther. 22° Friday, January 17th Wind N.W. 17 Days Past 348 To Come May 21, 1901. Dr. R. B. Waddy, Lexington, Ky., says: "I consider Pepto Mangan (Gude) the best of all the preparations of its kind. Have used it in my own family and otherwise and commend its usefulness in all cases of anæmia where anything of its kind can be taken."

Quite cold this morning and the wind blew from N.W., which made it feel even colder than it was. Edwd went next-door to adjust the "switch board" for the "phone Co." Eliza Hill (Jas Hill's wife) was buried this afternoon, having died yesterday at the Garfield Hospital in Washington D.C. I went to the store & P.O. before and afternoon & also to Fairall's, taking one of my boots to be stretched.

Ther. 28° Saturday, January 18th Wind Variable. 18 Days Past Clear & Cloudy. 347 To Come May 16, 1901. Dr. W. L. Worthington, Fordyce, Ark., says: "I received sample of Gude's Pepto-Mangan, and was so well pleased with results of same that I have my druggist keep it in stock now. Five of the seven physicians in this town are now prescribing it."

Cloudy most of the day, although it was clear early in the morning. I went to the store & P.O. Afternoon I walked to Ashton & back. Willie came & remained until after supper, when he took Alice Peirce back to "Fairfield" with him. Malcolm Tyson called towards evening and sat awhile with me on his way back to J. T. Moore's? Jr. from "Grove Hill." After supper, I went to the store & P.O. and to Fairall's office, & Edwd went with Frank Robison over to Mrs. Kate Janney's, & may stay all night at "Fairfield." Some young girl by the name of "Dinwiddie," (who is boarding at "Bloomfield") was here this afternoon to see Dora.

Ther. 25° Sunday, January 19th Wind N.W. & Variable 19 Days Past Clear. 346 To Come BLOOD GENESIS The formation of a rich nutrient circulating fluid. Blood which shall contain an abundance of red corpuscles of the necessary structural and physico-chemical integrity. How to "build" such blood is an ever present therapeutic problem for the physician to solve. Pepto-Mangan (Gude) is a powerful blood-forming agent; it induces the generation of hæmoglobin, the oxygen carrying constituent of the blood; it is a genuine hæmoglobinogenetic. It feels the red corpuscles with organic iron and manganese which are quickly and completely absorbed in cases of anæmia from any cause, chlorosis, amenorrhœa, dysmenorrhœa, chorea, Bright's disease, etc. To assure proper filling of prescriptions, order Pepto-Mangan (Gude) in original bottles ([?] xi.. It's never sold in bulk.

Clear and bright. I went to meeting Willie, Fanny, & little Dora came before dinner to spend the night with us. Afternoon Edwd went (on bicycle) to "Riverside," & remained until after night; he staid at "Fairfield" all last night, and came home with Will & Fanny. After supper I went to the toll house.

Y. says: "I prescribed Gude's Pepto-Mangan with good results in the case of a young girl who was very anæmic. She has gained in weight and color. Also in other cases have found its use beneficial."

Another clear frosty day. Edwd went to "Sharon" & was there to dinner. Afternoon & evening he was over next door working with the "switch board connections. Phil Robison kindly put the poor little deaf, blind & lame "Skey Terrier," out of the way for us this morning. After supper I went up to the village, also this morning after mail time.

Ther. 32° Tuesday, January 21st Wind N.E. 21 Days Past Rainy Day. 344 To Come March 16, 1901 Dr. Henry Werner, Oak Park, Ill., says: "I trust you have received my letter of thanks for your courtesy in sending me a sample bottle, also expressing my entire satisfaction as to results obtained. My patient is now on her third bottle of Gude's PeptoMangan and is doing extremely well. Her previous condition taken into consideration, the change is remarkable. Your preparation will certainly have a warm friend in me."

It commenced raining before daylight and continued more or less all day. I took the office andirons to Brown's shop & brightened & polished them on his lathe. The ground was covered with sleet Edwd took the telephone horse to Fletcher Clark's shop & had him rough shod "in front." I went to the P.O. & to Brown's shop. Harry Davis called at the gate & left a book ("The End of a Era") for me to read. It is still raining steadily at bed time.

Ther. 34° Thursday, January 23d Wind N.W. 23 Days Past 342 To Come Feb. 15, 1901. Dr. A. G. Wright, Fenton, Mich., says: "I received your preparation of Gude's Pepto-Mangan. I ordered it for a severe case of anæmia in a young lady. She was driven to my office, as it was an effort to walk. She had taken many preparations of iron, but none seemed to do her any good. I had some of your literature, and from reading it, I thought Gude's Pepto-Mangan would be suitable for her case. I immediately put her on your preparation. In two weeks she seemed like another girl. Comes regularly to the office, goes skating, etc."
