Ther. 16° Thursday, February 13th Wind N.W. 44 Days Past Clearing. 321 To Come July 20, 1901. Dr. W. M. Lane, McConnellsville, S. C., says: "It gives me pleasure to add my testimony to the efficacy of your preparation known as Gude's PeptoMangan. I have been prescribing it extensively for some time after severe surgical operations and in cases of anæmia, and have always gotten excellent results. This palatable and assimilable preparation of iron and manganese is, in my opinion, one of the very best on the market. It is truly a preparation of real merit."

Cleared off again during last night. Edwd went before lunch to the mill, to fix telephone, and afternoon drove to "Woodburn" Willow Grove and "Oak Dale." I went to the store & P.O. before & afternoon. Mary Hill sent her little girl to the office for examination, treatment, & medicine, for "sore throat." Edwd came home before dark, in time for supper. It has been windy and disagreeable all day, the wind making it feel colder than it really is.

Ther. 14° Friday, February 14th Wind Variable 45 Days Past Clear. 320 To Come Dr. J. A. Simpson, Glen Mary, Tenn., says: "I have the honor most respectfully to say I used the sample bottle of Pepto-Mangan (Gude) on Miss -. She is eighteen years of age and had never menstruated. She was anæmic and had not been able to do anything for several years. On the twenty-sixth day after commencing the use of Pepto-Mangan (Gude) she menstruated. (This was only last month, now nearly two months since she had her first does.) She has gained 13 lbs.; good appetite, and she says she feels better than ever. I take pleasure in endorsing a remedy I know is good."

One of the coldest mornings we have had. Edwd. was about home all the morning and afternoon went to Janny Shoemaker's on telephone business. I walked down to Ashton & back before lunch & to the store & P.O. Afternoon Willie, Fanny, & little Dora came and spent an hour or two with us. After supper I went to Fairall's office. We are having beautiful moonlight nights at this time, and the sleighing is still fairly good.

Ther. 20° Saturday, February 15th Wind N.W. 46 Days Past Cloudy. 319 To Come July 22, 1901. Dr. H. D. Hopkins, Waitsfield, Vt., says: "I received the original bottle of Gude's Pepto-Mangan you so kindly sent me, and have used the same with quite satisfactory results. I believe it to be a very valuable preparation, and especially so where iron in some form is indicated."

Cloudy & threatning snow all day, but cleared off after sunset. Edwd went to "Belmont" to tune their piano, and dined there, coming home to supper. "Garfield Dorsey cut wood at the wood pile 1/4 day. I went to the store & P.O. before & afternoon and again after supper. Edward and Some of the folks from next door got out our old coasting sled, and went coasting, by moonlight this evening.

Ther. 16° Sunday, February 16th Wind N.E. 47 Days Past Cloudy. 318 To Come PEPTO-MANGAN (GUDE) is rapidly and easily assimilated. Produces a rapid increase of red corpuscles in the blood; is perfectly miscible with sherry, milk or water; pleasant and agreeable to the taste; gives appetite and tones the system; children take it readily, it can also be administered to infants. Does not affect the teeth. Does not constipate or produce gastric disturbance.

Cloudy & threatning all day, but up to dark it has not either rained or snowed. I went to meeting, which was silent. Willie & Alice Peirce came before lunch. Afternoon Willie & Edwd went over to Haviland's dam skating. Frank Robison came home with Willie & Edward came later with "Hilles" as far as Ashton & walked from there. Sarah Jane Powell came to the office for advice & medicine about dusk. In the evening a woman was here (with her sister) for advice & medicine for her infant daughter. she looks like a "Carter" and I think lives with Silva & Philip Stabler.

Ther. 19° Monday, February 17th Wind N.W. 48 Days Past Cloudy. 317 To Come July 20, 1901. C. W. Crowell, M. D., Marshall, Texas, says: "I used the bottle of Pepto Mangan (Gude) with good results in the case of a lady with nervous prostration and anæmia. I think it a fine preparation and had my druggist order it from his jobber. I will continue to use it as long as it gives good results."

It snowed last night, and this morning the sleighing is greatly improved. It is still cloudy and windy. Willie came & dined with us, going back to "Fairfield" after lunch, I went to the store & P.O. and to the mill. After supper I went to "Fairall's office." Cousin Hannah Archer, came up from "Bloomfield" this afternoon to make us a visit. Edwd was about home all day except going next door for a short time. he was fixing an "extension bell" to ring up stairs when our telephone bell rings in the dining room.

Ther. 23° Tuesday, February 18th Wind N.W. 49 Days Past Cloudy & Windy. 316 To Come July 13, 1901. Dr. Martha C. Burritt, Washington, D. C., says: "I am very glad to pay a tribute to your most excellent preparation, Pepto-Mangan (Gude), which has long been a helpful preparation in my practice, but it came to my aid in such a striking way this spring that I should like to report the case briefly. The patient was in her 14th year and was presenting the nervous and anæmic conditions often seen at that age. Her condition was increasing at such a pace that I became seriously

Strong wind from N.W. all last night and all day today. Edwd finished fixing the "extension bell" from the telephone in the dining room to the passage up stairs. I went to the store & P.O. Afternoon "Stoney Clark" cut wood at the wood pile. I walked to Ashton and rode back in sleigh with Frank Hallowell. After supper I went to "Fairall's office, and Edwd went to S. Wetherald's to do something to their piano. There has been three weeks of continuous good sleighing up to today.

Ther. 18° Wednesday, February 19th Wind N.W. 50 Days Past Clear & Cloudy. 315 To Come Dr. Martha C. Burritt - Continued. concerned. From symptoms and history I was led to believe that the child needed cod liver oil, and she had it, combined with careful feeding and correct general hygiene, but it was necessary a few days before the Easter vacation to take her out of school, with no expectation that she would be able to resume work before Fall. About the same time I put her upon Gude's Pepto-Mangan, with the result that she improved marvelously, and went back to school after the Easter recess. The blood count, which at first showed

Still cold & windy. Willie came whilst we were at breakfast to get me to go to prescribe for cousin Sophie Peirce and Miss Carrie Kummer, both of whom were sick. I was not at all well myself but after "bundling up" in fur overcoat and hot soap stones I went with him, and found the former suffering from a severe cold and the latter also quite unwell, although apperently not much amiss "only stupid" as they expressed it, but (at her age) not at all a favorable symptom. Willie brought me home before lunch. Afternoon I went to store & P.O.

Ther. 16° Thursday, February 20th Wind Variable. 51 Days Past Cloudy. 314 To Come Dr. Martha C. Burritt - Continued. pronounced anæmia, has come up to practically normal; appetite has improved, circulation is better; hands and feet, which were always cold and blue, no longer annoy her. At the close of the Spring school term she came out in better condition than when she entered. I feel that Pepto-Mangan (Gude) must have the glory in this case, because other conditions were unchanged. This case is only one of the many very gratifying results, for I use Pepto-Mangan (Gude) with great confidence and very constantly."

Raw & cold weather continues but is cloudy & looks threatning rain or snow. I am feeling wretched, with the worst cold I have had for many a day. Sore & painfull all over & a wracking cough After lunch went to P.O. Edwd drove to "Unity" to fix telephone connections, and home to supper. Hally Bentley & Lizzie Scott were here to see Dora. H's wash woman was here at work. Towards evening I went again to store & P.O. Miss M Fowler was also in this a.m. to see Dora.

Ther. 28° Friday, February 21st Wind N.E. 52 Days Past Rain & Sleet. 313 To Come July 13, 1901. Dr. W. L. Draper, Wilson, N. Y., says: "I find Gude's Pepto-Mangan the very best preparation where there is anæmia or impoverished condition of the blood from any cause. I have used it for 10 years with perfect satisfaction."

I spent a wretched night with almost incessant cough and some fever and rheumatic pains. Remained in bed until noon. It is giving us the worst sleet storm I ever remember. Edwd was out before & afternoon for the telephone Co. and came home wronging wet each time After noon Willie came over to Mrs. Robisons for Miss Sophie Featherstone to nurse Carrie Kummer who is much worse & I fear dangerously ill. Trees telegraph wires etc. are breaking down with the sleet. I hope I feel somewhat better tonight.

Ther. 28° Saturday, February 22d Wind N.E. & N.W. 53 Days Past Rain, Snow, & Sleet. 312 To Come July 17, 1901. Dr. Geo. T. Boycheff, Savannah, N. Y., says: "I used Pepto-Mangan (Gude) in a case of general debility caused from severe attack of 'La Grippe.' The results were certainly very satisfactory."

Still extremely disagreeable weather everything covered with sleet, which is breaking the trees in every direction and tangling & "crossing up" telephone wires. Edwd & Phil Robison have been out in the rain & sleet both morning & afternoon. Willie drove over, & was here for a while this morning. Reporting them "better" fashion" at "Fairfield." I am in hopes I am rather more comfortable this evening. It is still snowing and raining at bed time tonight. Edwd has certainly had a rough time of it today, having to put on dry clothing several times. We hope he will not take cold as a consequence of the exposure etc.
