Ther. 16° Clear. Wind N.W. Monday, February 3d 34 Days Past 331 To Come July 12, 1901. Dr. J. W. Devlin, Baltimore, Md., says: "I have used three bottles of Gude's Pepto-Mangan and am much pleased with the results and cannot say too much for it. Have recommended it in several cases of anæmia. I cannot praise Gude's Pepto-Mangan highly enough."

It has been quite cold all day, with a strong N.W. wind blowing. I went to the store & P.O. before lunch. Afternoon Edwd went to take a cross out of the wires towards "Unity." "Arch" Hopkins & Frank (his brother) were at the office: the former for advice & medicine, having returned from five years in the State penitentiary last Saturday. Rachael Cash's son was here fro a certificate for his mother. C. G. Porter called to see me about M E. Hardisty. Fletcher Clark's son "Stoney" cut wood for us this afternoon. Hannah Archer came to "Bloomfield" this evening in the statge from Laurel. After supper I went to the store (Hurlebau's) for matches.

Ther. 12° Clear and Cloudy. Wind N.W. Tuesday, February 4th 35 Days Past 330 To Come July 11, 1901. Dr. Wm. Gaulding, Waco, Ga., says: "I appreciate the sample of Gude's Pepto-Mangan you sent me. I gave it to a patient and am well pleased with the results. It was the medicine for that case. I am satisfied that it is all that you claim for it."

This was the coldest day so far this winter. Edwd went to Ashton early this morning to have the "Dan" horse "rough shod," after which he went to Olney to do telephone work, & afternoon drove beyond Brighton for the same purpose & telephoned that he would stay at "Fairfield" all night. About 10 o clk this am there was felt & heard either an earthquake or an explosion of some kind, which shook the houses all over the neighborhood: it was more like an explosion, in the direction of Washington. Willie brought some carpet to "Bloomfield," and took supper with us. I went to the store & P.O. morning and afternoon & again after supper to the toll house.

Ther. 11° Wednesday, February 5th Wind N.W. 36 Days Past Clear and Cloudy. 329 To Come July 11, 1901. Dr. Ambrose Brown, Grand Ledge, Mich., says: "I received the full sized bottle of Pepto-Mangan (Gude). It certainly did wonders for my patient, who then procured another bottle. The two bottles completely cured her. I have since prescribed it with very gratifying results."

Even colder this morning (throughout the neighborhood generally) than yesterday. Edwd returned from "Fairfield" where he stayed last night. I walked to Ashton & rode back in sleigh with the mail boy. Hannah Archer came up & dined with us & Edwd took her back to "Bloomfield" before supper after going to Tarleton Stabler's (in the phaeton) to fix a telephone. After supper, Edwd called up Frederic Iddings (in Washington), from our our dining room telephone; and both he & I talked with him, hearing him distinctly, and recognizing his voice as though he was in the room with us. It seem incredible. Mrs. Robison came in after supper & talked awhile.

Ther. 11° Thursday, February 6th Wind N.W. 37 Days Past Clear. 328 To Come July 22, 1901. Dr. A. B. Smith, Des Moines, Iowa, says: "I have found your Pepto-Mangan (Gude) very efficient and reliable in all cases for which it is recommended, especially in cases of anæmia and chlorosis."

Continued cold weather and good sleighing. Old Nick Long came before breakfast and cut wood at wood pile all day. I went to the store & P.O. before and afternoon, and again to the village after supper. Edwd went (on horseback) on telephone business to "Stanmore" etc. this afternoon. Willie drove over & took supper with us. After supper E went over next door. I have never seen the sleighing better even in Maine or New Hampshire than it has been and still is here at this time: it has lasted for more than a week, but may go in 24 hours.

Ther. 11° Friday, February 7th Wind Variable 38 Days Past Clear. 327 To Come July 24, 1901. Dr. S. J. Davis, Albertville, Ala., says: "I can and do assure you that your preparation of Gude's Pepto-Mangan is all that you claim for it. Since I received the bottle you sent me I have had my druggist keep a good supply on hand. I am sure I have prescribed a dozen bottles or more. I will continue to prescribe it as long as I get the good results from it I have in the past."

Edwd went to Washington, driving in the phaeton to Kensington with "Dan." Bessie Robison went with him on her way to Gaithersburg etc. E reached home at 20 minutes before 6 o clk this evening. I burned out the stovepipe from our room this morning & did some other tinkering jobs. Went to the store & P.O. Minnie Featherstone called to see Dora this afternoon. It has moderated considerably today and thawed where the sun shone, but the sleighing is still good, and will continue so if it freezes tonight After I had gone to bed, Sylvester Powell sent for me to go to see his wife. I sent her some medicine.

Ther. 12° Saturday, February 8th Wind N.W. 39 Days Past Clear. 326 To Come July 17, 1901. Dr. S. C. Browne, Scio, Oregon, says: "The sample bottle of Gude's Pepto-Mangan received. I had a case in my practice for which I wished it. I am very well pleased with the results. It greatly benefited my patient. She took it kindly and it agreed with her nicely. It is the one blood-making preparation I prefer among all others in the market. Shall continue using it whenever I have occasion to."

Edwd. went to Mrs. Kate Janney's and to Brighton & "Fairfield" where he dined and came home about 4 o clk afternoon. I went to the store & P.O. & after lunch went to Ashton after supper I went to the store & toll house. It has been very cold and disagreeable today and is even colder tonight with a strong wind from N.W. blowing which makes it seem even colder than it is. Fred Iddings called and left a gasoline soldering aperatus for the Telephone Co, & a newspaper for me.

Ther. 16° Sunday, February 9th Wind N.W. 40 Days Past Clear & Cloudy. 325 To Come THE "MOLIMEN MENSTUALE" which marks the period of transition from girlhood to womanhood, depends for its success upon the vital integrity of the blood stream, especially its hæmoglobin content. A chlor-anæmic circulating fluid, with its woeful lack of corpuscular bodies, renders menstrual initiation difficult and almost impossible Pepto-Mangan (Gude), because of the rapidity and certainty of its

Still windy & cold. I went to meeting & heard a sermon from E. Farquhar. Edwd. went over towards "Norwood" to take crosses out of the telephone wires After supper I went up to the toll house & store. The wind seems to have gone down since dark, although it is still cold.

Pepto-Mangan (Gude) is the one palatable neutral, organic hæmoglobinogenetic. In bottles of ([?] xi.). Never sold in bulk, that the physician and patient may not be defrauded by substitutes.

Had breakfast earlier than usual to let Edwd get off to Laurel, where he has considerable telephone work to do. I went to the store & P.O. morning and afternoon. Mr. W. V. Beal's team brought us 1 1/2 cords more oak wood this afternoon. Edward telephoned to us from Laurel, at six o clk this evening, saying that he was "about starting for home." It will take him until at least half past eight before he can get here. Silvester Powell called at the office and paid me $1.00 ballance he owed me.
