Dear Ma etc:
I received Annies letter with the $25.00 yesterday. Also the paper. As I will be home so soon it seems hardly necessary for me to write.
I had a long talk to Dr. Branner, the head prof. in Geology and he told me a lot of things about fitting myself.

for the mining-engineer's position. As it would take me all day to write I will wait till I get home and then we will discuss it.
I send you by today's mail a pamphlet by Dr. Branner in which he speaks of the training of a geologist.
I hardly think I will take the steamer on the 25th as I planned. But will take the one on the following Thursday because I want to stay

and take entrance examinations in English and German.
The committee has not yet acted on my rec's from Throop and I can't find out until a few days before I have wheather they are going to exept them as entrance or not.
I think the fare on the boat is $12.00 from Frisco but I will find out for certain and write you next

Tell Elsie to to loose the chess-men before I get home and I will teach her how to play.
From now on we will have examinations and I will have to work late till the end.
Next Friday is Stanford day in San Jose and there is to be an intercollegiat game of base-ball. I think I will gog as this game descides the championship of /96.
