We had quite a big fire here in town last night about 3 oclock.

A block two stories high and about half a block long burned to the ground. They have no fire engine here, not even a hose so of course there was nothing to do but to let it burn.

If you see Dick Bell tell him to give me his address. He wrote to me but forgot to give me his address, so I dont know where to send the letter.

I am not getting many letters now. I go to the post office day after day only to see an empty box. Tell Gus to write if it is worth while. I am just dying to gett out somewhere where I can let myself loose and get into the mountains or somewhere huntting.

Dear Clara:

I received your well written letter this morning and when I opened it such a fine smell came from it that I thought I was in some garden. I thank you very much for them and I tell you, Clara they spoke so loud that I got home-sick for the moment.

So Gus went hunting, did he, and shot a duck that he did'nt bring home. Well I wouldn't give much for that duck. I guess he is swimming around a lively as ever.

Did Arthur go with him. How did Ted work. I guess Gus did'nt have a chance to try him.

It must be nice home now everybody having rooms to themselves. It has been raining ever since the Monday after I arrived and I am getting very tired of it. Last night it blew so that I thought the house was comming down.

The time is going fast and soon it will be spring. In the vacation in March I am going to make a trip to Mt. Hamilton which is only about 50 miles from here. We are making a party up and expect to walk. You know, the famous Lick Observatory is situated on that mountain and

Tell the folks that I wrote to the Golden School of mines stating my case etc. and received an answer hte other day. I will be admitted next September to the Sophomore (2nd) year but I will be one subject behind. That is Qualitative Analysis. As they go right on in Analytical Chemistry I will have to make it up before I go there. The only thing that I can think of is to stay here and go to the Stanford summer school.

I expected to take that subject this

semester but I found [cut off] is not given the 2nd term [cut off] The charges for the course [cut off] Qualitative Analysis in the summer school is $25 for the course.

Theres plenty of time yet to think about it so I can write to you and tell you more in detail the way the case stands.

Can you find out if Throop or any other school has a summer course and if they give the course I am after or not. If I stay here I can finish in 6 weeks. Beginning the 1st of June and so would get home about the middle of July.

I will send that Algebra by today's mail. Write again soon. Your loving brother
