A cheap one would not last long. If you do think I should have one then you can let Walter H. get it because I don't think they will sell any to outsiders.

I received Ottos letter and was very glad to hear from him. It's just as he said in his letter a fellow likes to get letters from home. Especially if it's his first trip away. I dont need the over coat now it will be all right, when Otto goes east. Write to me what train he is comming on so I can meet him.

I hav'nt received any letter from Tug yet but maybe it will come on the next mail. I got a letter from Walter Hauser a few days ago.

How do I like University life? Well, its fine. Some days I have more to do than others. Some days I have only one rescitation in the morning while other days I have 3. Of course that time that I have no recitation I study. They give pretty big lessons here. I am taking the hardest course in the university, so they tell me. I am taking 7 hrs. math. which takes a good deal of time to prepare. The registrar said that if I did good work he would consider my recommendations.

And so would not have to take any more exs. I also spoke to the Chemistry Prof. about doing the work in one semester, and taking qualitative analysis the second semester. He said he would see how I wrote up the experiments in my note book and if they were satisfactory he would excuse me from a good many minor experiments and so I could easily do it in one semester. The Golden catalogue gives these two studies in one year and if I want to enter there I have to have every thing that they had. If I would write a hundred sheets of paper I could not tell you all about my plan of study. Ill tell you when I get home, thats time enough

It seems like Ma is off the face of the earth, I wish she could write English. "Hide sock." With love from

To my opinion I should have gone to Golden right away. Theres always a loss in changing schools. But I think Stanford gives a more thoroughcourse. But the trouble is that Stanford has no mining course and so I have no major prof. I gave geology as my major but I will never take that subject in Stanford as it comes in the senior year at Golden.

I guess I can scheme around some way and it will be alright. They take so much at Golden in one year that I don't see how they can ever get through it in that time.

They can't give a very full course. Now for instance take describtive geometry. Golden does it in one semester while Stanford takes a whole year. Stanford must have the better course. If I should explain for a year in letters you would never understand it. So I will let it drop and tell you all about it, Xmas when I come home.

I think I shall have enough money for a while. I'll pay my board, Chemistry lab. fee and get me my drawing materials. Write right away if you got that drawing set or what you are going to do as I won't buy any instruments till I hear from you.
