1876 July 25. Sent Jimmy up to Mr Joseph M Mosy to day to see If I could get him to come to see the machine put down, Edmond Plow Lot Tobacco smoking of it. I don't know what Peter is doing. I am poorly my self 26th. Peter done but little yesterday he is [Plo] ing in his Lot today Edmond morring his young corn [finecing] in his Oats. fair day cool night 27 choping corn Edmond choping corn [fencing] in Out Shuck [fencing] or {atir} gatie [He] Fainine moses the children here Mrs. & Mr. Gervis came here in evening 28 cloudy this morning put [any J ] toys in fresh fries next to Mr. Gervis this 2 [saves]2 Fig. 8 yearling to go put xows steer & horses cleared off after morning. 29th rained a shower last night & this morning began to rain more or [lip] light showers tier 12[Oilock 1 hen 1 he ]sun come out [Wet the] groud 2 inches Deep may be more Peter gone neighbor [&hand] of chalk [lirst]doing 30th Peter gone did not come back today Mr. Moser came this evening to put machine [Inez] came down Saturday stayed till Sunday evening & went home. [it] tained 29th. 20th put [mach] on down [got] out Our[mheat] monday & carried-machine to Mr. Woodings Mr. Moses put it down [up] Peter did not come til 12 O'clock Monday [Imonio] not let him have nothing to do with machine & he said he choped in his corn [posed] I do not know what he done August 1st Thursday going to Mr. Woodings close cloudy & may clear off. Rained before 12 Oclock & did not get done, Peter had the [apurance] to gather machine at Woodings to day

1876 August 2nd Cloudy and drenching rain this morning little cooler. fixing to Plow up my turnip patch to day. Peter walking about doing nothing, marking fence around Tobacco ground Turnips Plowed, & cleaning up about it cloudy all day Edmond worming and [Tossing?] over his tobacco, Peter came to see me & wants to rent his house & [field?] me his Tobacco [& etc?] around the the new Barn. 3 Edmond & his Boys & Peter fencing this day cloudy & like for rain weather moderate: - cloudy Nearly all day & rained some, weather still warm & Cloudy. 4th Rained hard last night cloudy this day 413 ground very wet Peter & Edmond [Jimmie?] [& etc?] fencing around corn field trying to get [done] tomorrow Edmond [Duns?] & me agreed for him to go away Next year & come after that If I let him know I want him. I expect to rent out next year & sell Out this fall quite warm & Cloudy-- 5. Edmond & Peter finished fence around big field to day. I am going to Mount Airy P.O. Cloudy & like for rain. I Lent Mr. Woodings my wheat farm yesterday. Warm weather -- 6 Sunday Stayed at home & very poorly 7. Clear morning quite warm. Plowing Tobacco Turnip Patch [& etc?]. I am going to Mo[unt?] Airy this morning to carry some butter 8.th went to [Reseville?] to day to see Jacob [& etc?] Clear pretty morning expect to machine Wheat [& etc?] at [m?] Mr Woodings 10 day Carried my coat to Mary James this day & she is to cut out my waistcoat & send it to me by Jacob -- before long. Edmond did not get done plowing his Tobacco 10 day = Peter gone to association this evening & Edmond is to Plow & work his Tobacco for him as I understand.

1876 August 9th Finished machining wheat at Mr. Woodings. Brot machine home last night. Rained hard in the night this morning Cloudy this Edmond worming & succering Tobacco ground too wet to work. I am complaining. Mr. Wooding sent my [Fam?] home 2 Bus [bushels] wheat for machining about 4 Bus wheat & a/2 Bushel Rye for machining 12 Bus & The Total from Jack Jones [& etc] a/2 Bushel Wheat I sent back to Mr Wooding. I ask [Iv_?] has my manure fork yet returned to night 10. th Edmond Hilling up old field tobacco to day began yesterday. Foggy this morning making 4 in A[ug?] 11. th Seeded Turnip patch this morning Jimmie gone to Millers Mill with Qt'r Bus Corn for Edmd a/2 Bus wheat wheat for me a/2 Bus for Edmd, [grinding?] machine --Cloudy & like for Rain cloudy nearly all day Did ^not get Grinding done at Millers 12 Started to S.' [Strait?] Stone meeting & turned Over [out?] of the Rain. Raining very pretty Jimmie. Plowing lot tobacco before Rain & yesterday evening & Hilling it up. raining at 11 Oclock This day. 13.th Rained all night last night & this /morning Raining. Edmond Dews gone up to Mr. Whitehead ground. Very wet now, Peter gone to his association [too?] winds are bad not [hetrles?][stormy?] 14.' Rained last night. Done up Yd fence This morning, worming & [securing?] new ground Tobacco. & Tossing looks like Rain. This evening ground very wet this evening. 15th Worming & succer new ground. Tobacco very wet time about this time. Mr Booker Our pastor at [Strait?] Stone here last night. 16th Clear pretty morning Jimmie Plowing up my [mark?] Potatoes for us to gather, 1[h_?] [& Those?] Plowing Tobacco Weather. Hot Yet.

1876 August 16th Nannie Dews Edmd Tucker [Jr.?] & Wm Moses Jr gathering up [Mr kings?] Potatoes out of my Patch on Hill finished at 12 Oclock Nannie Dews making matches to [kill?] Bees when I wish. Jimmie Plowing Peters Tobacco to day [?] day. This 17.th Seeded Rye where I had [Wish?] Potatoes Edmond Fencing by Corn House To day Peter Hilling up his Tobacco To day Very Hot day This. Edmd secured Turnips Edmd Tucker had my Cart & [steers?] yesterday Hauling Rails at his House looks very much like rain this evening 18. August 1876 I called Peter last night to help me kill some Bees but he was not to be [H__y?]: This morning he came and said he was over in the corn field so I don't know, I would not [keep] & his family find them & do as he has this year. I would not have [h__?] On my plantation. Edmd. Fencing. Peter working his Laborers. Weather Very warm. got a letter from Sallie [lately?] her children got the whooping cough, 19.th Peter gone again soon this morning Rained 2 showers hard last evening. Edm & Jimmie Brod my hogs out of Pasture Black [Serv?] Brod all her Pigs up the other ones ran [?] fed in Cow Pigs [fixed?] for [three?] [Hours?] [morning?] My Pigs up Bigest. Edmond [& etc?] Fencing & trying to finish fencing fixing lot at stable on the July & August Hottest [than?] for Several & [Hos To?] Corn & Tobacco doing all it can do. Cleared off 20. Tolerable fair morning. 1 hr Board & Pigs. not up all my hogs but Weather not quite as Hot this morning. Lost Mules. Molley & Tom to Ed Bailiss & Andrew Wyatt to go Reid Creek [Morning?] to day --

1876 Augt 20.th Very Hot day. tolerable clear Mr. Lewis Yates & Mr Templeton came here in a 21st Edmond & Jimmie gone down to lower field after my Hogs & Pigs all my Pigs has not been seen Wm first [b_l?] them up. Turned Cooler last night & this morning Cooler. Edmond worming?] [Succering?] & tossing new ground & old field [?] to day 22. Shucked out our corn nearly this morning Lent 2 1/2 Bushels to [Jules?] for myself meal 1 1/2 1 1/2 Bushels corn for Edmd lent 2 Bus. corn for Peter lent & 1 1/2 Bushels wheat Balance from Woodings for [?] [flon?] Edmd worming & succering Tobacco in Lot Beautiful day Nannie & Miss Frankie dry -ing apples yesterday & to day. This evening This evening I am Down Hunt Sallie Tate Hargrave & Misses Alice Hunt came here and about night Bro. Gacy came here 5 days all night, Sallie T Hargrave Tate Doron. & Alice stayed 3 days 23. rdworming & succering Tobacco in old field 24. th Same work Thurs-day too -- Recd a letter from Saml Gilbert; --Mr Edmond B. Fitzgerald here this day Wm W Moses Jr went home with Ed 25. Edmond Dews Tossing Tobacco for for Peter Adams & they are both gone from home & Tobacco full of worms & suckers. Edmond cleaning up round his corn field finer & doing it up then other side of old prize Barn I want Mt Airy Edmond Hilling up Peters Tobacco & Jimmy & [?] 1/2 this day & himself all day 26 Edmond Fencing round the corn field the other side of Tobacco lot . Cloudy this morning then cleared off pretty Peters [?] gathering [?] Wm got very [f__d?] this year Very warm weather yet. every thing growing [mr g.?] Edmond B Fitzgerald [talks?] & children & my [Julin?] Brooks came here about 12 Oclock to day Saturday : Rained a little this evening
