1876 Oct 3rd I start to Mr Whitehead Soon this morning for Lynchg to get me a Truss, [about] Sun [rise] afraid I shall be too late got there in time for the [carrs] went to Lynchg & a Truss from Doct Craighill & got back to Mr Whiteheads Same night Staid with him all night Settled my acct nearly [of] Edmond cut & Hung Tobacco & put Some in the House that evening -- 4 at night I come home, found them all well & not looking for me. [???] finished hanging & Houseing 6th Sent Jimmy to Yates Mill - nearly 2 Bus corn for meal for us 2 1/2 Bus wheat for flour & wrote to Bro Yates for 2 Bus corn for Edmd Dews meal, got none to be paid tomorrow Edmd stacking Some fodder & Pulling Some firing new prize Barn, firing Tobacco _ 7th Edmond cutting Tobacco Nannie & me went to meeting Strait Stone Bro Booker Elected again for 1877. from next Christmas Mott [Graves] has not come & will not come I suppose 8th I dont go to meeting to day as I am poorly A little cloudy no frost yet, to Hurt 9th Sent Wm to Mr Creaseys after mail & Some nails to Repair Shingles on my House & the one Peter Adams lived in Edmond Dews Jimmie & Nannie Dews & Wm cutting Hanging & Housing my Tobacco left by Peter [&] Edmond will hang his lot cut & Piled last " Did not Hang any of his in Lot - Saturday as much ofit as he can and will have the House full trying to finish to day Nannie & Miss Frankie Leake gone to Mr Lewis, Doron Hunt came here this evening 10 & 11 J D Hunt here & we went to Mount Airy Edmond firing New Bsrn & one back of Garden Mr J D [Right] Leo Hire Shingling & fixing [house]

[11th] Oct Shingling & put on new shingles this day Nannie Dews here at work & yesterday. 12th Big frost this night Mr Jas D Hunt here Edmd Dews firing 2 Barns Tobacco & [Hunging] [leaves] back of Garden this morning very pretty day clear & warm; Began to Pull corn Pulling Edmonds Crop Some to Eat & [feed] on in fresh ground where we want to Sew wheat 13 Jim & Wm Still Pulling where they left off Edmond fresh ground, frost this morning cut my Boar this morning & marked the one Mr Moses gave me Birkshire nearly Black 14th Edmond Dews firing Barn back of Garden Hauling Wood Lot Barn & Hauling corn from fresh ground ofhis pulled clear pretty weather no frost this night 15 Rained last night sometime smarly Edmond built fires under all the Tobacco this morning Edmond firing Barn back of Garden 16th Edmond shucking corn this morning quite cool finished firing Tobacco - clear pretty cool [days] 17th Housing corn this morning made by Edmond Dews part of his fresh ground I housed 4 1/2 Barrels & Edmond 3 Barrels gathering that at my corn House before we begin to Sew wheat this evening _ & the morning - 18th Haul up corn by corn house 4 Loads 4 Loads from fresh ground of Edmond [?om??] Peters. - now Pulling the other Side of old prise Barn 4 Loads from there clear pretty day Mrs Wyatt came here 19th Jacob P. Came last night finished [halling] [Corn] from field beyond old prise Barn up corn & all hands went to Shucking and [?] then evening Jacob Spayed 5 Shoats for me & cut 4 my Boar I cut has not come up yet. Jacob Cut Some for Edmond Dews [neutered] up Martins Smiths Tobacco - at M Neals

1876 Oct 20 Shucking Out Corn Rained last night Some Edmond will make Some fires under his Tobacco. I reckon this morning Shucking Corn when not raining stop when raining. Cloudy & raining at 1 oclock 21st Miss Frankie Leake Sick again this morning Did not quite getting done Shucking yesterday finishing Shucking this morning & then we will go to housing what we have shucked beautifull morning cleared off warm. 22nd very foggy this morning Edmond Dews going to [Riverville] to See Doct Haley [?] 23rd Cloudy this morning & warm putting away shucks &C and will Start to plowing for wheat in Lot by old prize Barn my wife Miss Frankie & Joe Whitehead gone to Mr [Mr] Wm W Moses this morning been talking began to rain Soon after they Started about it So long they Concluded to go. did not come home 24 Tuesday Nannie did not come home [last night] from Wm W Moses clear & pretty morning We will begin to Plow lot by old prise Barn for wheat Nannie & Miss Frankie Come home Safe from Mr Wm W Moses about 10 or 11 oclock to day. 25th Turning Cooler Edmond Hauled load wood this morning & will commence Sewing wheat Golden Chaff in Lot Mr Wright & Geo. came this morning to Kill Beef Tom put it off till tomorrow morning. Began to Sew wheat Lot by old prize Barn this day [??] 26 Killed Beef Tom this morning nearly grown Mr James Wright takes 1 quarter, Edmond Dews takes 1 quarter & Jorden Graves 1 quarter 27. I will Send to Mr Wm W Moses for wheat to day to Sew. I [send] them some Beef. Edmd Dews plowing for wheat Harrowing in the others [Side of] Lot 28 I went Mount Airy Sold 11 Turkeys $1. for Goblers 75 [cts] for [????] $10.50. got 6. Bus wheat 6.60 [??].

1876 Oct 29th Edmond finished sewing Lot yesterday 5 Bushels our own Sort of wheat white Golden Jeremiah H Graves came last night went home to day Rained this evening & caught him on the road Tom & Nanny with him raining now got 6 Bus wheat Fultz, from Mr Charles E. Miller 30th Cloudy this morning & looks like it willrain at any time foggy too Edmond fixing old field to Sew wheat to day where we had tobacco cloudy all day & night 31 Cloudy this morning & likely for rain Sewed 1 Bushel wheat come from Wm W Moses white Golden chaff on on old field Tobacco Land in Big field - cutting down corn stacks to Sew wheat. Clear foggy morning 1876Novr 1. Wednesday Sewing wheat cutting down cornStalk [?] my Bacon Hogs up this morning only [?] Pigs Sewed wheat come from Mr. W. W. Moses - in fresh ground where Edmd & Peter had corn & old field Tobacco Land -- very pretty weather 2 Turning Colder Sewing where Peter [planted] corn to day in fresh ground 3rd Sewing wheat & will finish fresh ground Jacob moving moving here at this time Mary James will come to day or [torrow] 4 Sewed & finished the freshed ground Edmd & had, Edmd & Edmd & Jimmy did not quite get done my little patch in Rye Edmd finishing & Jimmy [go] to Yates Mill 1 Bushel corn forme meal Wm has gone with Cart over to Jacobs to [finish] moving him to day - cloudy a little to day 5th Sunday Jacob moved here last night family & [a} 6th Jorden Graves halling logs for me to Mill Mill for to pay for what he borrowed last fall Edmond cutting down & Stacking corn [?????] we are going to Sew wheat in Big field Mr Wright here this morning fixing Jacobs Stove

1876 Novr 7th Election day, Edmd Dews & his Ga[ng] went to help Allen Lovelace shuck corn yester[day] this morning cloudy rained Some last night Jorden Graves hauling Logs to Millers for to pay me for plank I lent him last fall for his house to live where he lives now Edmond sewing wheat & Jimmie cleared off in the evening pretty evening weather moderate 8 Martin Smith Carried a log for Jorden Graves this morning 15 feet Long for my plank Edmond & Jimmy Plowing in wheat in Big field where Peter had corn pretty weather to day Saw my [Listed] white Sow & 3 pigs this morning 9th Edmond is trying to finish sewing wheat to day & has Sewed 15 Bushels 1876 Marten Smith yesterday & to day has carried 2 Logs to Millers large & 14 or 15 feet long & this morning carried 1 Bushel wheat for flour for me & Brot it home 10th Edmond finished sewing wheat yesterday & Jas D Hunt come Wednesday & staid 3 nights & 2 days chopping around the Stumps & cutting up bushes - to day Doron left this morning, Jacob went over to his plantation Tuesday & come back Saturday evening I went to the election last Tuesday [7] & came home Saturday 11th I went to S. S Meeting Saturday & Sunday 12th my wife Started [last] morning to Richard Whiteheads he is gone to Baltimore Edmond gone to meeting at [Afrilan], 13th Edmd & Jimmy hauling up corn Stalks Jacobs children 3 ofthem Wm Sam & [Rose] starks to School this morning to Mrs Howard Jacob starts to Plowing above Granary I am Going to Mount Airy to day If I can 14th Edmd pulling & Hauling up corn 1 Load from Big field to day Put away our Greens, 5th Edmond & Nannie & Wm Pulling corn in Big field Jimmie Plowing till 12 oclock then hauling corn Jacob gone to Millers Mill after flour & carried corn
