1876 August 26: Jeremiah H Graves came here about night & Bro. Ora with him. 27 Sunday stayed at Home all, [Mistress?] Brooker Sallie [?] Clear and pretty evening. A little cooler at night 28 Beautifull day. I went to Mr. [Lewis's] with Sallie & Misses Julia Brooks. Edmond getting out Hard [Grass?] [Seed?] clear pretty day. richard Whitehead here last night.

1876 Sept 3rd Sunday clear Pretty day We are all at home Jerry Whitehead here at this [ ] Good deal of Company the last 2 or 3 weeks & the Hottest Summer July & August for many years

4th Worming & succoring Tobacco Edmond & his gang & him they are (inserted between lines - "Edmd did not begin to pull fodder [you grsc]" going to pull fodder in the Big field. Peter worming & succoring Tobacco today. Fine morning clear nights & mornings. Cooler now.

5th Peter worming & succoring Tobacco to Edmond & Sammie cutting coal wood. I am going to Mt Airy to day & Mr Harveys [&] got dis[in]ss Warrant against old Martin Smith, & a [ILM husband] [&]cloudy & like for R Peter cutting down [corn] in Lot above Garden to day ("Pulling fodder" inserted above next line) if I dont [M ierd] Fannie N Moses & her children & [Come on] Fannie Graves. Bro. Garrets Daughter went home this [evening] &

Sept 7 Rained last night. Sm[art)]sho[wer] Peter & Edmond worming tobacco this after awhile Peter will go to Cutting down hops in lot where there is no corn & Pulling fodder where there is any corn. Warm day I went to Harthings & SS [C rak] & Cona[regs] & Nellie & Molley shod before 1876

8th Edmd & his gang is worming & succoring Tobacco. Peter is at same work of morning & Pulling fodder from worming. Wm B. (H)armer last night & gone over to Jordens Gra(ve) this fine yams got seed from Mrs Powers over Bun(es)

9th Clear pretty morning very warm. We are intended going to meeting but Miss Frankie is sick so & taken medicine & do not know whether Nan will go or not yet. Edmond & his gang worm & succoring Tobacco. Peter Pulling fodder Miss Frankie Leake taken sick last night & Nan De(or) cooking to day & pulled fodder some to day I went to meeting good many People there to day

1876 Sept 10th Rained last night Cloudy this morning but not raining my Frankie better 11th nannie and me went to meeting today Edmund Tucker here this morning he came back after he started home and _____ hogs were in our corn next to his house Edmund Davis setting up coal kiln. Peter came back sometime today. Jimmy says hogs eat a good deal of our corn in Big field but they found none in the field when they went there rained shortly after we got home 12 Rained nearly all night last night Cloudy and very likely for rain and about 10 . Arthur ______ and Peter went to help Gorden ____ morning and ________ Tobacco today Edmund at work on his coal kiln too 12th little cloudy this morning and foggy Edmund burning coal kiln Peter working on his tobacco don't do much no how 14th Edmund and Peter will both pull fodder today _____ Peter has not touched his barn yet nor fence 15th Rained hard last night. Edmund will worm and _____ tobacco after awhile he will pull fodder Peter I think is doing but little pulled but little fodder has not done nothing to the barn nor fence yet I went to meeting today and ____ _____ great many people to convert 16th Rained nearly all or _______ the night last cloudy this morning and ____ for rain Rained from about 12 oclock Nannie my ___ Frankio went My Frankie ____ ____ at meeting house Rained all the evening Went by ____ Estes and my Frankie did not wish to come home in the rain and we left her. ______ and come home 17th Rained all night and rained this morning and ___ ruined this and cooler Can't go after My Frankie till it stops raining. Cleared off today 12 Oclock 18 clear cool morning __ _____ hogs here in my corn ____ mile

1876 Sept 18 very cool. I expect to go to meeting & bring Miss Frankie Leak home, our big old Gobler and 1 little turkey missing last night Edmond going to Pulling fodder to day - Meeting Broke last night tho Bro Tunstay is to Lecture there to night & address the young men

19 Peter quit milking Dolley last night his wife nearly turned her dry & this morning Peter came to me and wanted to know of me what I was going to do let him have anything to eat or not. I told him not a thing & not to be standing about here talking about nothing he had no any thing eat up what I have found him when he was from home & for me to find h[lost in margin] I should not do it & not to stand talking with me go off to work he bound himself to work bymy d[?]tion he has no he has pulled but little foder has not touched the barn to put his Tobacco in & wants me to ha[ve] The crop valued I told him I should not do it. Edmond Dews pulling fodder or working in it.

20th Jordan Graves Nannie Dews Jana Smith & Jerry whitehead pulling Peters fodder yesterday Martin Smith Cooking to day Tying upNannie Dews Chist & Edmd Tucker Jr. pulling Peters fodder to day Mrs Coleman & Pride Hunt came last night 21st. Edmond TyingCloudy all day rained some fodder & hanging on stalk

22 Raining all day hard Thundered & Raining yet in the evening Peter here to day

23 not raining but cloudy going to send to the mill this morning I will send 2½ Bus Corn for mealMr Moses & Kate Came this evening One Bushels wheat for myself Edmond Dews Sends 3½ Bushels wheat for hims[elf] Sister Peter moved from here this morning & said noColeman & Pride started Home pretty evening

24th. Kate nothing to me at all& Mr Moses came & Brot my Pig a Bla[ck] One white feet & tip of his tail white very pretty o[ne]

25. went home this eveningMr Moses & Kate went home this evening Rain before night looks like it will

1876 Monday 25th Edmond went after my Pigs in Mr Lewis' corn field got 2 dogs Killed one the Smallest left 2 in there 1 the bigest 1 Small one. Peter Adams moved from here last Saturday nothing to me till I Saw him on the road I then Spoke to him & he said he was going away & give up the Crop tome to finish I told him he had better attend to it himself Edmond shocking fodder & working [in] working in Tobacco pulled about corn [house] 26th Coleman Hubbard Nannie Jorden & Jerry W. Pulling fodder & getting mine together Pulled of Peters. fair weather 27 Began to cut Edmd at new ground & Hanging put 2 Stacks blade fodder yesterday Edmond working in Tobacco & fodder. Martin & Coleman Hubbard [?inkin] & Daubing Barn for Peter Adams pretty day Edmond Hanging Tobacco & will this evening 28 Marten & Coleman Hubbard Daubing Barn for Peter Adams clear morning Edmd Hanging Tobacco from old field & then will pull fodder above old prize Barn & gather fodder to day there came a man here this evening nearly [deranged] Edmond Pulled fodder this evening & gathering Some together & stacking -- 29th Edmond stacking fodder & Pulling 20 Tying up fodder & stacking Hauled up coal to Burn. looks like rain this evening Oct 1st Sunday Rained last night this morning faired off tolerable clear day Miss [Frank??] Sick 2 nights & 1 day. Nannie cooked & milk Oct 2 Edmond Dews cutting & Hanging new ground Tobacco - Edmd Tucker & 3 Sons Robt Edmd & Chist cutting Housing & Hanging Tobacco. Tobacco 1 day. Edmond Dews Hauling up [Dos] Lot corn for Peter Adams Nannie Dews helping Jerry coltering apples 1/2 day
