1876 Decr 10th very cold day & time as I ever have seen the very first ofthe winter 11th Snowed rained a little last night I [wen?] to Mr Lewis to get my Hog Kill which they [?] up thinking they had their own Sow [that] has been missing a long time since last Christmas cutting wood morning [grinding] axes 12. Cleared off very pretty cutting & Hauling wood to day - weather moderate [M] Frankie still sick, Doct Wooding [ca?] to day while I was gone to Mount Airy stop Strait Stone Creek & Mrs. [H Lai?] 13th Edmond & Jimmy Hauling up stalks [till] 12th oclock Jimmie gone to Plowing wm with [??] Edmond Cutting & Hauling up Stacks Jacob & has been over beyond Jordens found in [pla??] to burn our plant Beds over beyond Jord?? one near where we burnt last year & one over the stack towards Mr Lewis's clear [pre???] day - Miss Frankie quite Poorly all day to day. 14 Beautiful day weather moderate [Jimmi?] Plowing for corn Edmond & Wm Hauling up [statks] - Edmond Monroe Stayed 2 nights [Jacob] & son his Son cutting & Piling corn Stalks Turned my Sow [E???] [B??] [Still] in woods Pasture this morning cows gone to stalk [f??] [15th] little cloudy Edond mondgone to Petty Johns [Mill] I Sent 1/2 Bushel wheat for my self 1 1/2 Bus [??????] wheat for my cows Jacob P. sent 5 Bus corn for meal and Edmond carried 2 Bags corn for meal for him My sow dark spotted got at Mr Wm Lewis's called Kill has 10 Pigs in [M???] [woods] Pasture this morning all likely [thank] my master the other one [?] her Sister will have Pigs shortly rather cooler to day Jacob gone to [Joiners] after Shoes [??] [16] Fixing & pulling fodder away & weighing [????????] cow Shelters to feed them

1876 Decr 16th Clear pretty day wind Blows Jim Plowingfor Tobacco Turned my Sow Lady Wyatt in woods Pasture with Kill 17th Fannie White Moses & Cousin Fannie & children came here yesterday no Moses came to day Miss Frankie rather Better Nannie my wife Poorly -- Fannie my Daughter brot me [centenineal] Phil. 1 Ring for my Keys & a small wine glass. Clear pretty day quite cold to day, Mr J M Mos ses 18th Mr J M Moses Came this evening and Tom & this morning got Kates & [Sallies] Heifers & will (the word Sallies is crossed off) try & Carry them to his House & cloudy & like ly for Rain & a freeze. -- Miss Frankie [quite] Poorly but better Nannie also better. only carried Kates yearling the weather so bad there did not carry Sallies. __ very cold & snowy 19th very cold this morning Fanned out our wheat yesterday & Divided it & delivered Edmd Dews his part Jacob cutting yesterday -- cutting & getting wood to day 1 of my Pigs Kill had Died 2 nights ago - Clear today Hauling wood this evening out by Granary 20th Clear this morning Sent Jimmie & Wm to Yates Mill 1 1/2 Bushels wheat for flour forme & Edmond Sent Some wheat - for flour - Jimmie [come] & Wm come back from the Mill & [??] the flour tomorrow evening & Hauling & getting wood out of new ground - weather a little moderated Jacob gone up Wm.H. Wallers Sale to day 21st Cloudy & like for Snow Hauling wood cutting in new ground, Wm Graves went [a??] his mothers Shoes to Mr. Starkeys & stayed [??] night & Jacob had not come from the Sale his mother crying about & had a notion of go =ing after him herself & Edmd went for her & there he was & did stay all night cloudy - 22nd Jimmie & Wm going to Mill Yates after [?] - Edmond gone to Mount Airy Raining morning not quite [??z?] cold tho [sleet] & [???] bad walking Soon this morning

24th Decemr 1876 cloudy this morning & cold & cloudy & like for snow Jacobs Baby Cate very sick Jacob went to Starkeys after his wifes shoes & went to [to] Mount [?] come back sometime in the course of the night, he had gone to Mount Airy [ev?] Saturday since he came here to live & got no hands yet My Pigs all missing [this] morning Lady Wyatt has not got Pigs yet began to snow this Sunday morning now [ 1 o?] [?? [?ck] and snow yet. Wind from N, quite cold to day 25 Snow about 2 1/2 or 3 Inches Deep quite cold this morning My whitessh Sow [had] Pigs this morning. 26_ Clear this morning Snow about 2 Inches Deep Beautiful day, Jacob gone from home hunting a hand or Two to day snow melting very much Nannie Dews is to be married this evening to Simon Miller weather moderate 27th Jacob come home last night awhile in the night cloudy this morning & weather moderate My white listed Sow had on 3 Pigs [the] night it Snowed & one of them Died, one of Kills Ten Soon after [th?] came So She has only 9 now [My] Ten Shoats Come up every night & Saw them my self this day morning & look very well Kate milked last night & to day Miss Frankie mends very slow indeed. [28]. We are all at home to day cloudy this morning Jorden gone to Millers Mill after Plank I lent him for his floor last winter, Jacob gone with him to get it ofhis own [accord] Cloudy & looks likely for snow [29] Began to snow last night & snowed all night. Very disagreeable weather snow about 3 Inches Deep this morning

1876 Decr 29th Quite cold cloudy & likely for snow - 30 Cleared offin the night & wind Blew & [it] very cold Saturday my cattle in the stalk field now Jacob gone Some where I dont Knowwhere quite windy this evening Jacob come back in night 31st Clear fair morning Sunday 1876 1876 1877 Jany 1st Snowing upon snow & snow upon snow our folks getting wood Edmond tells me his wife is not willing to stay here no longer & he must go too that is what he tells me this me this morning - Keeps snowing Jacob helping getting wood snow about 2 feet Deep to night & still snowing bad on every thing 2nd Jany 1877 Stop Snowing last night Snow 1 1/2 feet Deep Edmond Jacob & Jimmie made tracks to wood pile Smoke House &C No [conclusi???] [abou?] their staying yet, all my is alive yet. Jacob come late in the night 3rd Jacob gone to see about a man he hired yester, Edmond & Jimmy getting wood to day - cloudy & looks like more falling weather Edmond & his family not going to Stay here this year

1876 Decr22nd Geo Wright carried 2500 shingles from here this morning to Mount Airy Miss Frankie Leake Poorly yet - cloudy & like[f?] Rain or Snow 23rd Weighed some of Edmonds Fodder [th?] morning, clear & fine weather cutting up [woo?] for Christmas Edmond Killing Hog for himself 1877 Jany 4th Jacob has got Jorden to go to Mount Airy or Mr Millers after a hand. to come here to live this year Ammon Dilliard & his wife, - Wm Graves has gone with [h?] Edmond has got no where to go yet very cold & no melting Snow yet 5 Jany 1877 Ammon Dilliard [her?] this morning for the [year] give him $50 in money 10 Bbls corn & ten Bushels wheat & 12 1/2 meal a month they are getting wood to [d?] Edmond did not come home last [?] night clear cold day snow [ne?] Knee Deep & dont melt any yet [thee mometer] 2 [degrees] below zero - 6 Raining & Hailing to day _ Edmond come back doing but little cleared off in night [7] Sunday snow melting very [mess?] clear day this & moderate 8th Jacob went to See about [W??] Pannell, Edmond striping Tobacco, Ammon & Jimmie getting Wood to day cloudy all day
