A clear windy day. Rain last night. Jim has staid at home all day. He looked for Nellie & Evylin. They did not come. Ben went for Mrs Car this evening. I am glad that she come with him back. Josie thought of going with him but Carrie came and she did not go. Grace Brumfield & Kate Harvey come. We were glad to have them. Glades and Doris and Janie Brumfield & Christenia Reynols come a while. Marvin and family went to church and then Carrie & the little ones come to see us.

A good day. The boys killed hogs. Jim had two to kill, Ben 4. We got up at four oclock. Marvin and Owen and William Gilbert helped them. Bettie Haley helped me. Nellie & Viney a colored woman come at twelve oclock. They cut up the hogs and salted them up. Nellie got her sausage ground to night. Jim and Ben helped some. Heard to day that Lizzie write died last night. I had a letter from Mary Brumfield to day. Mollie Reynolds come this evening. Josie went with Ben to Mount Airy.

A good day. Ben & Jim helped Marvin kill hogs. Nellie put up her sausage and cut the meat for mine. Josie seasoned for us both. Vinie the colored woman fried out the lard for us. Reese went for Martha Miller this morning to help Carrie. Mr Rob Hubbard and Ella and two business men come to see Mrs Car. They did not stay for dinner.

Rain last night. Rain and hail a gain to day. Ben and Jim shucked some corn this morning. This evening Ben carried Jim and Nellie and Vinia to Gretna on their way home to Chatham. I went with them to Gretna. I bought several little things. We left them at Gretna. It rained and hailed all the way home but we made it ok. Josie had made a fire when we got back. She was going to get supper. Henry went to school. He was so colde that he cried.

Thursday, December 9, 1920

A cloudy morning. The trees was covered with ice that is all gone to night. Jim is in Chatham we think. Ben worked on Henrys bycicle then split a little wood. Went rabbit hunting late this evening. Did not kill any thing. I have bin busy all day. I got breakfast, milked the cows, cut up two pumpkins, put them on to cook, cleaned a hogs face, put that and haslet on to cook then got dinner then churned, put on some spar ribs to boil, watered the calf, changed the water that chidlins was in. By that time my hogs face was done. Picked the bones out and made scrapple. Took up my pumpkin and washed up the things that I used. Brought in some wood. Went to the spring twice. Josie got supper. Mrs. Car and Josie washed dishes.
