To the Honorable Board of Park Commissioners Gentlemen The following report is respectfully submitted for the month of July relative to the work done under your charge In the Kinnear Park the planting consisting of 1759 Plants for this month was extended to the middle of the month on account of the late spring, cool and extended wet weather. The greater part of the work has been the general maintenance of care of the lawns , flowerbeds and shrubbery and walks the continued wet weather of the spring has developed surface roots of the park grasses instead of deep roots So that as the surface dries out quick much watering is needed: The horse lawn mower has proven satisfactory, and when in use the other horse of the team was employed in cultivating in the nursery. A smoother surface, as the panel used had not been gifted. these walk now need some binding material which is found on the bluff of the park and [it] should be put on and incorporated with the road during the dry weather. Depradations have continued many plants haveing been removed from the lawn plateau of the park..Twenty loads of raw manure and 14 loads of loam

4 The property owners fronting in the water front evidently do not deem any action on their part necessary in protecting their land from slidding into the Bay taking with it the lower part of this park and preventing the Department of doing anything to save the property. The property owners fronting on Olympia Avenue have not yet made my report relative to Parking said Avenue in harmony with Kinnear Park Denny Park, This park had the weeds cut down a number of large shrubs saved on the nursery clearing could be located upon this park and become established provided a definate plan of improvement is determined upon no report made to us was yet from the neighboring property owners. 4

Superintendents of Parks Report for October 1893

To the Hon. the Board of Park Commissioners Seattle Wash

Gentlemen

The work ocurring October upon the City Parks was as follows; upon Kinnear Park the care and maintenances of its walks and lawns, constructing the new bluff outlet walk on the south and completing the placing of binding material on the walks, collecting seeds of annual and perennials, care of the flower beds and borders, taking up of tender roots bulbs and perennials.

Remodeling of the old beds and new ones has been begun as also preparing the ground for The new shrubs trees and plants to be planted out durring the fall and winter season.

The City Park work has continued without interuption. Stumps removed, roots grubbed ground ploughed, rocks taken off, and ground made ready to receive the nursery stock as soon as possible, it will require all the winter season to plant out the new

Seattle Wash Nov 30th 1893 To The Honorable The Board of Park CommissionersGentlemen The following report relative to the work done in the Department of Public Parks the general work of maintenance is reduced during the winter season, while the work of preparations for the shrubbery borders and floral decoration beds require at this time of the year proper manipulation upon Kinnear Park surface drainage was extended and grading of the inlet bluff walk done. Together with weeding and culture of hardy plants The City Park clearing continued ploughing and preparation of ground to receive Nursery overflow shrubs. Seattle Wash Feb 28th 1894 Superintendent of Public Park Report To The Honorable The Board of Park Commissioners Gentlemen The month of February was the least advantageous of the winter months for grading. hence the team work upon Denny Park was short, labor upon this Park consisted in leading surface and seapage water away from labor field. the drainage and irrigation plans are postponed on account of the line of seepage seams in the ground are not yet fully determinable, and will not be until the Play-stead is graded - from the main bank. Kinnear Park had some manure drawn for the extended planting areas which are being continued most of the native shrubs have been replanted to thicken the boundry belt and make room for the now stock to be planted into permanent position The other works consisted in extracting noxious weeds and grasses from the lawns and top dressing some of the latter with composted manure. beside the general maintenance of repair of walks raking off leaves etc everything is in readiness to plant the new plantings The Park has no suitable tool room 1
