& Mrs Johns & Scared about something etc etc

14th Sent Bob ^& claiborne to old place to Roll Logs Sewing Oats, fencing here to day — Raining a little Sewing Oats, burning Brush etc Fencing in early part of day

15th Sewing Oats & fencing, Nannie & me went up to Mr Moses to day & settled with them & Jacob P. about my trip to Louisa, etc - & they gave me my commission to buy me a horse altho I offered to give it to themetc I gave Mr Moses my horse Ball I got from Wm Shields; expect to Roll Logs at aspen grove tomorrow; very good weather

16h All hands but Smith & Charles went to aspen Grove to Roll, & I went too & it will push them to get done sent Phil to shop by Pal Smith went to Mill & Chalk Level, clem piling Brush & trash

17th Rained all day I staid at home Fannie W Fitzgerald here cool rain

18th cloudy & like for Rain, Halled up stack Fodder & Oats this morning - very cool 15 or 16 Lambs at Plantation, one stole last Friday night or day did not that is did not finishroll all the Logs. It began to snow a little about 10 or 11 Oclock & by 12 It Snowed very fast till late in the evening 3 or 4 Inches Deep & real winters day. We halled up 1 stack fodder & 1 stack Oats & began to Hall wood till evening then went to striping Tobacco it has been cold ever since Friday - work in new some this morning

19th Striping Tobacco to day halled up 1 Load dry wood, finished all the Tobacco we had down I went to Mr Hunts Place to have spring branch Ditched We have sent 2 hands to Mr Hunts place to Roll Logs 1 hand to Blanks’s 1 to Allen Scruggs 1 to whitehead & 5 to aspen Grove to roll this spring - snow till [faded] to day - & 1 to Jas Kelleys to Roll

1861 March 26th. weather moderate, Mrs Coleman & family & fannie W Fitzgerald here to day —

27th I was writing letters to Bro Garret & Cousin Ch to day they finished Sewing Oats here & claiborne halling rails. this morning it rained Snowed & hailed a little & the wind blew tremendous hard, we set some trash heaps on fire early & thought they were about out, but about 12 Oclock the broke out & was soon nearly all over the new ground & we had hard work to save our wood & fencing, but none did not get burned, blew down some of our fencing fire also got out over at Mr Hunts place but did not do much damage. We planted our Irish Potatoes on road in wheat Lot & prepared ground in garden to plant Corn Snaps etc etc etc.

28th Went to Plantation to day nearly done breaking up Corn & Tobacco Land except new ground coltering that & Raking balance, 28 Lambs there & 39 old sheep at this time, - we have been fencing here to day & coltering new ground Crossing Halling stuff out of our new ground & raking Fine day. Went to shields Barksdales & mount airy for Mr Grastys business —

29 I went to Chalk Level to day got a letter from Toot stating he had sold my Tobacco in Lynchg 2 Hdds Halling out Trash out of new ground began to Hill, Plowing for Corn, paid off Tate to day for myself & Estate John D Hunt,

30 Plowing for ^Corn Halling out Leaves out of new ground began to Hill yesterday in new ground next to road; took up our Irish Potatoes to day & Beets Kept very well Kate & Mr Moses Came here

31st March Sunday Fannie & Jacob came [faded] cloudy

12th Sallie & me went to meeting SS

13th E. H Doss left Plantation soon Saturday morning somebody told me he left Friday evening & gone way over in campbell, for which I charge him $5.00 Covering our Carriage House here coltering & Hilling Second years ground, I went to Aspen Grove Likely for Rain about his time corn Seems to come up badly fleas has eat the Tobacco plants very much wheat looks tolerable

14th Took down our Lugs here this morning, finishing covering Carriage House, Hilling fresh ground Plowing up for corn on Low grounds to day

15 Jacob P Graves gone on to CH to Start to war it with old Lincoln, great confusion in Our Country every thing unsettled Sent Henry to Aspen Grove & claiborne to Hall Logs We are Planting Corn this morning a little ps on Low ground, cutting slate tree fixing Scare Crows Hilling in second yrs ground, Nannie going to CH to day

16th Henry Halling Logs from aspen Grove vz 1 Large one Hart to pay for palings sawed 2 for weatherboarding & 17th Halling again &

17th Halled up stack Oats & fodder this day Carried 12½ Bus. corn for meal & 2½ for overseer here & halling Logs – again here Hilling yesterday & to day Halled 5 good Hart Long Logs to Millers for weatherboarding & halled 1 Big one to pay for palings besides the 5. Chumbly went to Chalk Level to day, Hilling Henry began to Plow Corn, replanting corn this evening – cloudy & cool

1866 Aspen Grove Feby 7th Henry &claiborne, his son […] Bees this morning hot here before 9 […] Safe, little Henry Halling wood. balance […] in new ground, cloudy & cold like for snow Billy getting Garden Post this morning & Just set in to work. very cold

8th. I went to Cedar Hill to day, & went to Rolands - our folks finished new ground fence & then Halled Leaves little Henry Plowing - Double Plow Billy Hewed Garden Post & making Door to Bee House this evening - did not finished it

9. Halled Leaves again this day Henry plowing Halled up Garden Post & forks for Horse rack Billy fixed Bee House door, made Bench Horse & put up Horse Rack, Beautiful weather Pride Hunt started to new London to school Jerry carried him, over there, fine weather

10th Halled Rails out of new ground & finished new ground fence, etc Henry Plowing & broke his Plow I went to Strait Stone meeting fine weather

11th Kate & Mr Moses Came here last night we went to meeting to day fine moderate weather my young sow that has been sick so long had 4 Pigs last night & I did not know she was in that way at all, - we drove the mules to Car. =riage to day to Strait stone, they pulled fine

12th. Rained some, Rolled Logs to day in new ground & ps in fresh ground, above Neals old Barn put up 15 or 20 small heaps only 4 small heaps in new ground Jerry help us with 2 hands send some Pea Hulls down for Sheep & got 2 waggon wheels from Big McHaney waggon to Hall wood - etc

13th. claiborne Henry & Ben shrubing in fresh field Little Plowing in Lot back of old prize Barn I went up to Cedar Hill got some Peach sci[?] home set them back of smoke house done up back of our chimney - I found Jacob P Graves

8th Janry 1867 Wyatts set into wor[…] moved Harry Dalton here Agreed with Sam Gilbert to work in plantation & his wife to cook & his son to wait on my wife in the House bring water etc etc -

9th Wyatt put up ashes in hopper & fixing up shelter over it Mr Dalton gone to Mill. Major Cutting

10 clear & cold I went to shop with Jerry to get his Horse shod Cutting in new ground Wyatt Halling wood, made wood body to hall wood My Hogs all been gone nearly a week, Same here fixing up the House for him to live

11th. Cutting etc I went to hunt my hogs, spotted Sow come none of the rest all

12th, went to meeting few poeple there Sam moving - & his wife came to day at night Cutting in new ground

13th. Sunday I went to meeting few poeple disagreeable day & likely for rain & snow

14th began to Cut ground Sam finished moving – [axe?] & he went to work & soon it began to rain we then shelled Corn & fanned out toting end wheat for Cows friday last red cow had a fine Calf bull red Halled some chaff to Cutting House Rained all the evening - Jacob Came here last night weather moderated

15. Wyatt gone @ 12 Oclock to see Pl[?] buried Cutting & Halling woood, cleared off this morning - soon fixed in prize take down Tobaccobarn to
