August 29, 1851 - September 12, 1851
1851 Augt 29th my wife going to Mr Fitzgeralds to day I made a Bargain with Mr Johnson Farmer to do carpintinters work for me getting shingles & fixing carriage & Ice House at 3/- pr day
Sept 1st clear & warm finished this day working our fresh ground Tobacco, Toping & worming & succoring too & this evening working out Garden Henry working all day on new Barn - overseer made Jacobs shoes & also last week Sallies & Jerrys – –
3rd began to Pull fodder a little yesterday Daubing & fixing Barns, Owen gone - Henry sick clear & fair I went this evening to Mrs C. JF.to Mr F AW. & gone home by 9 Ocl
4 cloudy & like for Rain, Henry in house yet Toping at from 5 to 8 leaves worming & succorig over at this time - etc I am going to Mrs McC to day after Kate she has been there several days
7th Fixing to day scaffolds drawing shingles going to machine attending to fodder etc Mrs McC wool weighs gross 43 lbs cloudy & like for Rain
9th covered shop & Barn worming & succored Tobacco at home at Mrs McC I expected they were fanning wheat, went up there to measure etc & behold they were at work on their carriage House
10th Pulling fodder here ^ ^in fresh field-& there fair & clear
11th Jobing this morning, then Pulled down mountain field fodder got adone little after 12 Oclock, worming & succoring Tobacco over there gathering Peas spreading flax Tying up fresh field fodder in evening —
12 Pulled fodder at old House place at stony point worming succoring & toping & Tying up Our Blade in evening — I am sick Mrs Hunt went home this morning
September 25, 1851 - October 13, 1851
1851 Sept 25th very cool this morning we are stacking Our Tops cut over our Tobacco & got near 1400 Sticks in all 245 fresh ground in new ground 846 in lotts by prize barn 291 in all 1382
26th Stacked Our tops yesterday & finished worming & succoring Tobacco this morning making Hog pen for mountain Grazier — after the Dew gets off then we shall cut Tobacco again – fair & Clear sent Jacob to Faris’s mill 1 Bus wheat for flour & get the articles he brot from for meLynchg
30 cutting & firing Tobacco Tobacco yesterday & to day – fair & warm
Oct 5th The weather the Past week has been fair & mild we have Housed all our Tobacco cut except the mountain field pulled & shucked Out Our Lot Corn by Granary & mountain field made nearly or about 12 Bbls while we were measuring up Corn friday Our Tops Stack fell down & we had to stack that again picked up flax yesterday Pompey Hurt Pink yesterday morning I don't Know whether he broke her leg or not meeting at Strait Stone yesterday taking some steps to put a stop if Possible to the Villany going on in this pt of the Country
Oct. 9th Began to sew wheat here yesterday at mountain field sewed Rye at Granary Lot & also the wheat there yesterday & to day Cut Buck wheat firing prize Barn & new Barn in Lot Expect to Begin to cut all Our Tobacco to day Began to Sew wheat at Mrs McCullocks Tuesday
7th Oct Cutting down there Corn Clear & fair
10 Cutting Tobacco in Lots etc Henry Bushing mountain field Fed gone to mill 2 Bus wheat to eat 2 Bus for flour & 2 Bus. Corn & 1½ Bus for overseer & 1 peck for Lila cloudy this morning
11th we have got from the mill all but our corn meal finished cutting & stacking Tobacco this day
13th Halled first cutting out of new ground Barn 710 sticks to prize Barn
December 18, 1851 - December 29, 1851
18th Decr 1851 Owen moved yesterday very cold weather only set up one Hhd, new ground near House — very cold on the night of the 18th this night some person broke in my Smoke House drawed the Staple & opened the Door Only taking out Our flour Tub & something like ½ Bus flour & 1 Hogs Head. thats all we back bones & spar Ribsmiss except some
20 Clear & Cold, Halling wood & cutting Jacob & Jordan gone to mill 2 Turns wheat carried leave one of them have the other ground into flour & get one Turn corn meal at mill – –
21st cloudy & cool day Jacob went to Mr Fitzgeralds
22nd This morning snow about 4 or 5 Inches Deep Rained last night & hailed & then snowed all in house to day making brooms spining etc etc —Picking cotton —
23rd Cutting in new ground Some spining Sewed Our Lots back of Garden & by prize barn & Granary in clover seed Timo= =thy & Herds Grass seed – —
24th Cutting in new ground Snow melted but little very cold I am going to Mr Franklins & to see Mr Smith & Dove about the rent of Mrs Clements childrens Land -- etc etc —
24 & 25 Went up to Mr Franklins for Lucy Ann to see about her negroes they are sick 2 of them then I went to Smiths & Doves to Rent the Land to Dove took his Bond & to collect of Smith & Dove got no money at all, stayed at Mr Fitzgeralds
24th at night & come home in Rain 25th in evening
25 Still Raining & Turned warmer
27 Still cloudy & like for Rain or snow, Jacob & Jerry gone to Mr Fitzgerald
29th Still cloudy & like for Rain weather more moderate, Nannie gone to Mrs Colemans & a few days ago to Mrs Hunts, Sent Jordan for my papers —
January 3, 1852 - January 14, 1852
1852 Jany 3rd I went to Mrs McCullocks - halling wood & Cutting began to Plow this week rain 2 Plows 2 days Henry Riving boards one day Striped Tobacco at mountain Barn, I have to Mrs Colemans winding up her business 2 or 3 days. I Bot a saw & 12 Pegs at Mrs Colemans Sale, also several other things 1 oat stack-
4th Jany my wife & Cate gone to Green field to meeting, tolerable cool day tho fair —
7th The 5th at night it snowed 2 or 3 Inches Deep Rained in evening before snow yesterday we striped Out mountain field Barn Tobacco. This morning quite cold. we have not finished our Ice House yet Cutting in new ground this morning all hands Lila Plowed a little monday Jordan & Jacob went to mill 1 Turn wheat & 1 Corn - etc — yesterday about 12 oclock Monroes Peter was Caught as I understand by David Neal
10th Snowed again this morning about 3 or 4 Inches Deep & there has been about 4 snows to this day, - we did not do much Out yesterday Shelled corn Jordan Brot from mill 2 turns meal Lila spining Henry & Fed making Brooms after morning, still cloudy & like for Rain snowor 11th Decr. Still cold & like for snow
12th clear & cold. Sent 4 Hides to Mr Yates for Mr Jefferson & to Tan 1852 - Cutting in new ground. —
13th very coldclear cutting in new ground alse Breaking & swingling flax 2 Ewes has Lambs Bot of Mrs Coleman at her Sale 1 Sow & 12 pigs & 5 Bbls corn the 31st Decr 1851
14 my wife & Kate Jacob & Jerry gone to Mrs Hunts weather more moderate, Halling wood Chaff & Straw cutting in new ground alse Swingling flax —
January 22, 1852 - February 12, 1852
1852 Jany 22nd since the 14th I went to court the coldest weather I ever saw, one saw & we have filled our Ice House, went to mill last week got 4 Bus. meal, our cotton Picked & brot Home our 2 Logs sawed into weather Boarding Kate & Jacob gone to Mr Fitzgeralds to day we are this day Halling leaves etc etc 5 young lambs to this day & look well
23rd began to Burn mountain Plant Bed Finished & sewed it on next day saturday except covering it with Brush Sewed Kentucky Bull Seed there
26 Began to Burn the one in new ground
27 Finished it 20 yds square Sewed my old seed in thatSewed it & covered it The 26th Halled up 1 Oat stack & one fodder stack this day
28th Burning plant Bed below second yrs ground this day - & mill try & sew it this evening with seed from M. Our old sort finished it clear & moderate weather the nights cold windy & we went to Cutting in new ground
30 & 31st Cutting in new ground & Plowed some
Feby 1s Sunday stayed & home quite cool

- 4 Plowing for Tobacco & Corn & Cutting gone to mill this morning White Back Cow, from Poll worshams B[?] had a calf last Saturday Heifer calf & we are cutting trying to get down to day Halled Out load wheat Straw this day quite cool this morning & like for snow
Febr 5 Sewed Peas Planted Onions, Finished Cutting this day Halling wood Henry Plowing in Tobacco Lot below spring Lila Plowing for corn weather moderate Cutting up old Trees & etc for wood to mal
12 We are Halling leaves to day & sent waggon to shop to Iron ps steel & Iron & other things yesterday striped Tobacco in prize barn & since the 5th we have been Plowing on Branch & high land for corn & malling cleaning up in new ground
