Thursday Nov 17.1859 Beautiful warm weather. It seems almost strange that here the days are so fine while out at sea in this latitude we may expect gales, storms. But then God orders every thing in wisdom & the more I see of His works on land & see the more I reverence & wonder, for every thing in nature works so harmoniously & of many things man may even learn the reason why they are thus & so. As I have passed the length & breadth of the North & South Atlantic I could almost tell day by day what we might expect - whether storms or wind, clouds or sunshine.

Monday Nov. 21 Damp but warm weather. Today I feel lonely for every time I leave the land it seems as tho I were sundering ties which might never be reunited. My last word of affectionate goodbye is said to my dear ones at the North. & tomorrow we shall be on the ?? of waters again. But in thus again leaving my native land my trust is in Him who holdeth the waters in His hands & whom the wind & sea obey Truly blessed trust not in the strength or wisdom of man but in the Almighty.
