Friday Dec 2nd 1859 Begins with light airs from S.W. & clear wild weather. [Dr?] in the [Dr?] to Correspond with the wind. Course E.N.E & only going [Dr?] [Dr?] a bout 3 knots. [Dr?] [Dr?] [Dr?] was not satis feid with going [Dr?] [Dr?] [Dr?] last night but hid himself, but [Dr?] forward was Kept with a [Dr?] [Dr?] [Dr?] his shoulder & a {Dr?] [Dr?] [Dr?], for the remainder of the [Dr?], mild but good [Dr?] as all had a hearty laugh at his [Dr?] at 6pm [Dr?]. [Dr?] [Dr?] [Dr?] [Dr?] sheet sail booms [Dr?] set [Dr?] & Lower [Dr?] sails are [Dr?] [Dr?] Side. Things works rather hard for the [Dr?], has too much to say - and does'nt give his offi cers half a chance . He is very impatient. Savannah Ga. Towards Liverpool Eng Outward Bound

Saturday Dec 3d 1859 Beings with light airs from Westward. At 6 AM, shifted studding sails to port. In forenoon setting up Topmast. TGal & Royal backstays, fore & main. We are getting along very slowly, only being in about 35.30 N. Lat & 65.00 W. Long. It seems more than one short week that we have now been at sea, but then it takes a good while to get used to sea life. One would think that by this time it would seem like a part of my life to be on the ocean, but I cannot forget the precious years of my home intercourse: how much I enjoyed home & friends & opportunities for improving my mind & heart. The joy of those years still lights my pathway, and I ever thank God that my early years were thus blessed. I have not sundered from home so long & so far but that the love of warm hearts there is so interwoven with mine that it cannot broken, and

absent hours working or sleeping or filled with visions of loved ones & loved scenes. If prosperity which will bless both me & them can only now attend my labors I shall be happy. In eveg & night light variable winds & calms with some rain. Ends same. Courses handed up & T.Gal. sails closed up. 7 Days from Savannah

Sunday Dec 4. 1859 At 2 AM wind hauled to Eastward. Set courses, T Gal sails Jibbs &c Heading by the wind on starboard tack about N.E. by N. In forenoon steady breezes with passing clouds. In P.M. wind increasing & a heavy swell heaving up from Northward. Lat 36.50 W. At 4 PM, took in T. Gal sails. Single reefed Topsails & Spanner & hauled down T. Gal Staysail & Outer Jibb At 6 P.M. ship is in her course E.N.E. with starboard tacks aboard I think there is the appearance of heavy weather. Had my sextant adjusted & found only 2 seconds off. to be
