come from one dear one, whom it shall be my labor & delight to make happy & with whom I hope to pass many days of future life in the dearest nearest to which we recognize on earth. It is the first time such hopes & such love has been cherished by me, and I rejoice that such thoughts are centred in one who not only will render my earthly pleasures all I could wish, but who in the fervent love of her Saviour will lead me when I falter in the path of holy life In our separation my prayer shall constantly & fervently ascend for her abundant good

I too, leave again an aged mother & dear sisters to the care of a covenant keeping God on many a stormy sea & in distant lands has my fervent gone forth to them & now I must leave them again. Such has been my life ever changing. Oh may I not as I wander over the world wander from God my Father, but he prepared for all that awaits me & always trust in Him. I know I am weak & sinful. Savannah Ga Ship Garnet

Tuesday Nov 22. 1859 At 4 AM. called all hands and with steam tug along side tried to get out but did not succeed. So still lying here. Now we are ready I want to go

Wednesday Nov 23. This morning with two steam tugs got away from berth and about half way down Savannah River where we grounded & are lying through

day. At 6 PM took stern again and went down to bar where we came to anchor with our Port Anchor & 25 fath. chain. Very fine weather & but little wind.

Tuesday Nov 24 1859 Thanksgiving day at home one year ago I was on the Pacific nearly off Cape Horn. How varied the sailors life. Here & there ever restless. Such is my life. May God lead my steps to a safe & bright haven at last. At 5 AM have short & got underway but came to anchor again as we could not lay our course in the channel Strong gales through day & night

Friday Nov 25. Fine clear weather but wind ahead & so still lying at anchor. At work setting up rigging & putting on chafery gear In eveg rowed up the river to ship Robt Cushman. Night very fine. Writing

Saturday Nov 26, 1859

At 4 AM called all hands have short. Set all sail & got underway at 6 AM for Liverpool. Fine South wind. Dischg Pilot at 8 AM. The R. Cushman & Georgia sail in company. Sent letter to H. by Pilot We are once more gliding over the trackless sea & the land last to sight soon I hope Englands shore will welcome us kindly but we know not what changes await us. May they be ordered in mercy

Ends with fine breeze & cloudy weather.

Sunday Nov 27 Nothing but the dark blue water meets our view as we gaze around the horizon. We are alone but as the Sabbath hours pass, as at home the man of God prays for him who goes down to the sea in ships

does not many a heart respond amen as loved ones are remembered? And prayers I know follow this ship in all her courses. WE have a quiet still day. And we are going along finely with square yards. Course E N E. & wind about W. S.W. Furled Gibbs. Mainsail Crossjack & Ma. T. Gal Sail. At 5 PM, took in Fore G. Gal. sail & put single reef in Mz. Topsail So passes another Sabbath day. If we knew as these hours pass that no more would come on earth would we not live differently? I love to think at this evening loved ones at home. May the Father of Mercy bless them and bring us to meet again. In night strong breezes. double reefed Topsails & took in Main T Gal sail 1 Day from Savannah

Monday Nov 28, 1859 Begins with strong westerly gales with some rain squalls. Quite heavy sea making. & wind hauling more to N.W.
