Statue of James Otis

Voted. That the President be instructed and authorized in the name and behalf of this Corporation to contract with some suitable artist, to be selected by him for a statue of James Otis, in marble the cost of which shall not exceed five thousand dollars.

Statue of John Adams.

Voted. That the President be instructed and authorized in the name and behalf of this Corporation to contract with some suitable artist to be selected by him for a statue of John Adams^ in marble the cost of which shall not exceed five thousand dollars.

Assistant Superintendent

Mr Bangs reported "no progress" in the selection of an assistant superintendent.

Trustees. .

The regular monthly meeting of the Trustees was holden on the , at the office of C. P. Curtis Esqr at 12 M. Present Messrs Bigelow, Bangs, Crockett, Gould, Little and Parker.

The Record of the last meeting was read and approved.

Kalmias

Dr. Bigelow reported that he has caused more than one hundred Kalmias to be transported from Wilton N. H. and set out in the Cemetery, and also other ornamental shrubs from New York. The Kalmias are planted along the front line of the Cemetery Eastward from the gate, and some of them by the pond called Meadow - Pond.

Cart Gate. Way

Mr Bangs from the Committee on the cart way gate reported that by proper signs on the gate, inside and out, the object of keeping it closed was effected.

Dr. Bigelow was now called away from the meeting.

W R. Carnes. complaint

The application of W. R. Carnes in in relation to a nuisance on an adjoining lot to his own, by the decaying of a poor tomb, was referred to Mr Crockett.

E W. Williams Legacy.

Voted. That Mr H. M. Parker use his discretion in reference to the collection of Mrs Williams legacy from the Ex'er. not delaying a suit after . Mr Read was present at the passing of the last vote.

J. Richardson's claims

Before the President left the meeting he reported - orally that he had settled with Mr J. Richardson on terms fixed by G. H. Kuhn Esqr as arbitrator.

W. R. Carnes complaint in regard to tomb of Silas Pierce Lot 376.

Mr Crockett reported that Mr Pierce the proprietor of the lot adjoining that of Mr Carnes had made arrangements for having it taken down and rebuilt during the last fall, but had been disappointed by the workmen engaged for that purpose; and that Mr Pierce proposed to carry out his plans as early in the ^next spring as circumstances will permit. The report was accepted.

Trustees. .

At a special meeting of the Trustees holden at the office of C. P. Curtis. Esqr. Present Messrs Kuhn Crockett Little & Read & Bigelow

The Secretary being engaged in Court was not present. Geo. W. Bond was appointed Secretary pro tempore.

Treasurer's Report.

The Treasurer's report was read and referred to Mr Kuhn to audit, Mr Bangs being unwell and unable to attend to the duty.

Annual meeting.

It was ordered, that the annual meeting be called at the Secretary's office at .

B F Wyeth.

A communication from B.F. Wyeth. Gatekeeper asking to be appointed Superintendent was read and referred to the next board of trustees.

Auditor.

Voted. That Mr Kuhn as auditor of the Treasurers account report to the next regular monthly meeting.

The Superintendents report was read and referred to the Treasurer to be embodied in his report.

Proprietors. 1855

Mount Auburn Cemetery.

The Annual meeting of the Proprietors of the Cemetery of Mount Auburn, will be held at the office of the Sec. retary, in the Codman Buildings, at 46 Washington Street, on to hear the report of the Trustees, Treasurer and Superintendent; to choose Trustees for the ensuing year, and to act on any other business which may legally come before the meeting.

By order of the Trustees. Henry M. Parker Secretary Boston. .

Pursuant to the foregoing notice which was published more than seven days successively in the Boston Daily Advertiser, prior to the meeting thereby called, the proprietors met at the time and place therein named.

The requisite quorum assembled and the President took the chair. The meeting was too large to be accommodated in the Secretary's office, and on motion it was voted to adjourn to the hall on Tremont Street, over the Savings Bank.

The meeting came to order in said hall and the Treasurer read his own report and that of the Superintendent, and it was voted that the same be accepted.
