Section 1st

Name of the Society Article 1st This Society shall be called the Philo-Mathean Society

Section 2nd

Officers

Article 1st. The Officers of this Society shall consist of a President, Vice President, Secratary [sic-Secretary], and Treasurer, Editor, and As'st Editor (see March 24th/47.), Librarian and a Standing Committee consisting of the Vice President, and two others, elected for the purpose.

Article 2nd All Officers of the Society shall be chosen by ballot on the last Wednesday of each term.

days previous to the holding such meeting also stating the question appointed for debate.

Article 12th The Secretary in his capacity as Treasurer shall be held responsible for all money belonging to the Society, and shall collect all fines and assessments.

Article 13th It shall be the duty of the Secretary at the expiration of the term for which he is elected to present to the Society a written statement, containing correct information on all subjects connected with the duties of his office.

Article 14th The Librarian shall keep a Catalogue of all Books belonging to the Library, and will be held accountable for them.

Article 15th The Librarian shall present to the Standing Committee a list of all books belonging to the Library, lost or injured during the term, and the names of the persons to whom said books were loaned.

Article 16th It shall be the duty of the Librarian at the close of the term to present to the Society a written report containing the number and condition of the books entrusted to his care, and also any other information connected with the duties of his office which he may deem interesting to the Society.

Article 17th It shall be the duty of the Standing Committee to propose candidates for admission into the Society, to propose disorderly members for expulsion, to make the necessary purchases to expend money not appropriated for other purposes for addition to the Library, to decide upon the value of the books lost or injured belonging to the Society, to make the assessments for the necessary expenses of the term, and to select [insert report] questions for debate.

Article 18th The Standing Committee shall report by the Chairman of each regular meeting of the Society, one or more questions selected by them for debate, at least three four weeks previous to the discussion; and the reception of the same shall be decided by vote of the Society.

Article 19th It shall be the duty of the Standing Committee to report to the Society the taxes to be paid by each member, at least three weeks previous to the close of the term.

Article 20th The Standing Committee shall have power (with the consent of the President) to call special meetings of the Society.

Article 21th It shall be the duty of the Standing Committee, to submit all measures adopted by them, to the President for his approval.

Article 22nd The Standing Committee may appeal from the decision of the President to the Society, giving the reasons for the measures by them adopted, and the written objections of the President to the same, and the appeal shall be considered as sustained, when approved by two thirds of the members present.

Section 4th

Duties of the Members

Article 1th No person shall criticise any performance of the members unless he holds the office of Editor of the Mirror or be appointed by the President to perform the duties of critic.

Article 2nd Persons rising to speak shall in all cases address the presiding officer.

Article 3rd Any member entering the meeting after the calling of the roll, shall be liable to a fine of six and a quarter cents; and those members who are not present to perform their parts at the regular hours shall be fined twenty five cents in addition to the fine for tardiness.

Article 4th Whenever a member having an appointment shall neglect to prepare himself or to provide a substitute, he shall be fined the sum of twenty five cents.

Article 5th Any member absenting himself from the meetings of the Society, shall be liable to a fine

of twelve and a half cents, unless he is prevented by sickness or excused by the President.

Article 6th If any member be charged with violating any laws of the Constitution, or shall be found guilty of disorderly conduct after a proper investigation before the Standing Committee, he may be expelled from the Society, by a vote of two thirds of the members present.

Section 6th

By Laws of the Society

Article 1st Each meeting shall be opened and closed with prayer by the President, or some one on whom he may call.

Article 2nd No person shall become a member of the Society, unless approved by the Standing Committee and each person ^at the time of (see a vote of Sept. 23d, 1846) joining the Society shall pay into the Treasury, the sum of fifty cents, as entrance fee: and any person having been honorably dismissed may again become a member without paying an entrance fee. (see March 19th 1847.

Article 3d No book shall be kept from the Library for a longer time than two weeks, and any person retaining a book beyond this period, shall be fined Six and a quarter cents for every week this book is thus retained.

Article 4th The time of access to the Library shall be from 3 o'clock P M 'till 3½ o'clock on Wednesday of each week
