Chapter II

After arriving home from Stanford in early '75 I perfected all I wanted to: my books, my papers, my things. It took me two and half weeks. Then I took a walk and asked myself what I was going to do now that I was together. There was always the Soc Paper. But that Wednesday I was to go out dancing with Rita Shenke. When I got there I learned what Paul was doing, and I decided I would do likewise. I reopened EDITX. I wanted to work in Albu even then, but that was not be. It was all good tho. I spent some time, a week and a half after that Wed, decided I would be big on computers, getting the MS in Comp Eng that I'd always wanted to.

Jeannie was coming to the West Coast then and we drove to Portland and went skiing with Sandy + Fritz. Then Jeannie left, and I tried to get empl at ISI but to no avail. I made enough money to stay with M + K and work at ISI. And I came out again at WC's watercloset. I went there every nite. It was just down the street from

ISI on 4th. Many good times.

Remember Steve Childrust + Porsche, Bill Buren, the law student. Dancing away. I stayed at Sandy's for about two weeks housesitting. I finished EDITX, but I was getting intestinal trouble from not eating so well. I went to Seattle, and while I was messed up anyway I wrote Soc 143. The day I finished that ~ July 1, was so sunny and beautiful I had a terrific time going out to Scott Gillies house. (See my July 5 writing.) The rest of the summer turned out to be quite enjoyable. I lived at home, watched the Today Show every morning, worked on EDITX, etc. [Note to left of paragraph with arrow pointing down] Written Nov 23 [/note]

The first three weeks after Bicentennial week were nice. It was July, sunny. I wokred on marketing EDITX for a week + 1/2 [inserted note] July 14 letter [/note] and wrote my EDITX article for a week + 1/2. I did this in the morning and early evening. In the afternoon I went to the gay beach and to the Spa. I met lots of nice guys and had a very fun time dancing, incl with Rita.

They was Bob Ball, Jim Mooney, Bill Piotter, and Ken Bible. On Monday of the next week, I finally turned my thoughts to Editx-11 for the PDP-11; I studied the probability of other similar editors being written, or competition. None. But then I contracted a carbuncle and was out of it for another week. It was the weekend of Seafair races so I was bummed out. But not so bad. I recovered and while doing so watched all the TV I could care to, and read some magazines. Then Thursday to the Doctor + I started to have some good feelings again. Thursday + Friday I planned the near future + Saturday wrote letters (ISI Aug 9) [note to right] TWO WEEKS END [/note]. Sunday I relaxed at the Beach + Monday I read at the beach. Then Tues I met Steve. Oh "the first time ever I saw his face," and lay with him, etc. etc. It was great. I was ecstatic. I did contract another carbuncle and it turned out it was due to the swimsuit I was wearing. It wasn't nearly as painful as the first and I could

sit + work, and developed the EDITX accounting system. I also was able to screw around with Steve. Eagles concert, Nashville, party on Lake Sammamish. And finally, we went to Vancouver for Sept 1. It was a very wonderful experience - traveling with a lover. I was true to Steve the whole three weeks of August. I didn't even go to Bars! What a man he was. What separated us was the 10 year dif in our age. We were different cultures. When he was my age (22) I was 12! He was an American Graffiti person. I am not.

After that I began seeing Ken. Went home with him one night, listened to Billy Holladay, and drank wine. I didn't know he was gay. I lay with him with my arm around him. The next time I saw him we went to my house as he was moving. That relationship was good and lasted for two weeks. He was 30. The next week I put an end to my relationship with Steve, and then the next

week I put an end to my relation with Ken. It was all done + I was free.

As far as work goes the three weeks after Sept 1, Labor Day, I read astrology some time, fixed bugs in Editx, recovered from drinking too much, made final design on Editx as far as features go, wrote code for a few; on Thursday of the Second week I started reading PDP-11 manuals which finally arrived. Then I spent a week + a half finalizing total design plans for Editx. Used all the character set for both line + intraline editing as possible.

I went to Ken's place on Tues + on Sat for his b-day party and that was that.

On Monday I had a very good feeling of completeness and freedom from lovers. Oh, the second week I went to John Hortl's with Ken and then to Goldies with Burt on Tues. Got stoned both nights. It was impossible to work well on Editx Tue and Wed. (thought about EDITX on other comps). On
