[Saturday 17 March 1883]

Mr. Willis got the Fever at about ½ past 9 this morning and has been raving all day. This evening he got better, and played for us girls to dance. He danced with me once, but no more, as he did not feel enough energy. We came into the sitting- room at about 9 and I sang to them from Mrs. Shadforth's new music. Mr. Tudor came this afternoon. He met a man on his way down who had had lunch with Harry & Mr. Bob at Gibson's Crossing. So they got so far safely. They are here for the mustering.

[Sunday 18 March 1883]

Mr. Lamond came back this morning, but did not come over until the evening. It has been a wretched day. The morning & afternoon were both desperately long. Mr. Willis & I quarrelled this morning, & have not spoken since. Mr. Tudor, Edith & I went for a walk this afternoon to pick some wild flowers. Mr. Shadforth & Ernie were out on the Run all the afternoon.

[Monday 19]

Mrs. Shadforth's birthday, and great cooking has been going on. I was washing all the morning & ironing until late in the afternoon. The boys had some races round the race-course, which was a relief to the usual monotonous routine of the days. If Harry comes back this way I shall beg him to take me out, I am so tired of being without him. Mr. Tudor, Edith & I went for another walk to get flowers this afternoon. Mr. Johnson came down for the mustering here, this afternoon

[Tuesday 20 March 1883]

All the young fellows except Mr. Tudor who had an accident & could not go, went out on the "Run" mustering. We had a nice quiet day, except for its being horribly long. In the evening Mr. Tudor, Edith & I went for a stroll, & in less than 10 minutes we saw two snakes, & killed one, the other got away. Mr. Doyle spent the evening here, to go out with Mr. Shadforth & Mr. Johnson on the Run the first thing tomorrow.

[Wednesday 21]

Mr. Shadforth, Mr. Johnson & Mr. Doyle went off early & Mr. Tudor spent the morning at home. He went to join the others & returned with them, after luncheon. Mr Tudor taught me to plat cabbage tree hats this morning, so I shall make one as a curiosity to take down South.
