[Saturday 10 March 1883]

Working all day at a dress for Edith, trying to make the hours fly by. We are all beginning to mope, having no gentlemen in the evenings. We go to bed almost directly after tea, not knowing what else to do. It is too hot and the insects are too numerous for us to sit & work or read in doors, so after a half an hour or so sitting in the dark on the verandah, we one by one retire to our beds. Very hot all day.

[Sunday 11 March 1883]

Six years today since Mamma died! Harry will get to the Leichardt [Leichhardt] sometime during the day I expect. (Evening) Such a long day I never spent. We came to bed at ½ past 7, glad at last to have reached the close of the day.

[Monday 12 ]

Mr. Shadforth came back, having left the dray bogged 8 miles from here. He will go with Mr. Taylor tomorrow to dig it out. It was a relief to see him ride up, we were all so dull. It was a little cooler today. Mr. Shadforth saw Harry & Mr. Bob 10 miles this side of Gregory Downs. They were well & getting on all right.
