The Engineer Thirteenth L. H. District, Portland, Oreg.

Sir: As recommended in your letter of 22 August, 1906, the Board authorizes you to make the repairs at the Yaquina Head Light-Station, Oregon, at an estimated cost of $500.00, the work to be done under your direction, by persons in your employ, and by the purchase of the necessary materials in accordance with existing regulations. The above-named work is to be paid for from funds heretofore allotted you from the appropriation, Repairs &c., of Light-Houses, 1907.

Referring to your letter dated 24 Jan'y, '06, inclosing a copy of a letter from Mr. Dan J. Maher of Portland, Oreg., relative to his leasing or acquiring by purchase, a portion of the Yaquina Bay, Oreg., light-house reservation, the Board has the honor to state that the matter has been referred to the Engineer of the Thirteenth Light-House District at Portland, Oreg., for a report thereon. Upon the receipt of this information, the Board will communicate with you again.

Sir:

Referring again to your letter of 24 Jan'y, '06, enclosing one dated 18 Jan'y, '06, from Mr. D.J. Maher, of Portland, Oregon, asking the status of a Government light-house district which has been once used, but is now abandoned", and also stating that "the abandoned light-house site to which I refer is at Yaquina Bay, Oregon", the Board has the honor to state that the lighthouse site in question was temporarily transferred to the War Department by the Treasury Department in 1889, for use in connection with the improvement of the entrance to Yaquina Bay, when it passed out of the jurisdiction of the Lightouse Board.
