Sir:

This Department has the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of April 20, 1906, enclosing papers stating that Mr. D.J. Maher wishes to lease or buy the lighthouse reservation at Yaquina Bay, Oregon, and asking for information relative to the matter.

In reply this Department begs to state that the Lighthouse Board, to which this matter was referred, reports that is has sent these papers to its local officers at Portland, Oregon, for information as to whether this land is now needed for lighthouse purposes. When an answer has been received the matter will again be considered, when you will be informed of the decision reached.

The War Department letter to yourself is returned herewith, as requested.

The Engineer, Thirteenth L. H. District, Portland, Oreg.

Sir: Referring to your joint report of 4 May, '06, relative to the leasing or the selling of the Yaquina Bay, Oreg. light-house reservation, the Board states that on 12 May, '06, the Department addressed a letter to the Treasury Department, stating that at the meeting of the Light-House Board on 7 May, '06 the Board decided that there is no objection to the use of this lighthouse reservation and buildings thereon by the Life-Saving Service, under such conditions as may be prescribed by the Engineer of the Thirteenth L. H. District, and with the understanding that should this site be needed again for lighthouse purposes this permission may be revoked by the Department. The Board therefore authorizes you to permit the Life-Saving Service to use this lighthouse reservation and buildings for life-saving purposes, under the prescribed conditions. Respectfully, ??? Sir:

Referring to your join report of 4 May, '06, relative to the leasing or selling of the Yaquina Bay, Oreg., light-house reservation, the Board states that on 12 May, '06, the Department addressed a letter to the Treasury Department, stating that on 7 May, '06, the Light-House Board decided that there is no objection to the use of this light-house reservation and buildings theron by the Life-Saving Service.

The Engineer of the Thirteenth L. H. District has been informed of the Board's action in this matter, and instructed to permit the Life-Saving Service to use this reservation and the buildings thereon for life-saving purposes under the usual conditions.
