& that I had some 5 Revolvers or Government armsfor property & they wanted to search the House I told them I did not have a revolver in the world never did have one they asked me to unlock my drawers to my Secretary I told them I had a Spencer rifle which was given me which they took & they searched every Hole and Corner of my Secretary & found Mr Whiteheads 5 shooter in one of my private property drawers which I had forgotten it. they ransacked all my papers & Book Case & both Secretaries & in the Safe & then the cellar & cupboard and [?]lock Cellar & also my Physic desk & then went in my wife room & searched the ward robe from top to bottom & then went up the stairs & searchd all over up stair & also Prides & Dorans Chest & trunks. I never worse in my life when they molested my wife in her room they got a Pistol & Musket Richard found & Richard Sabre & the Seven Shooter Spencer Rifle given me by J R W.

& just about 12 oclock they left before they came to my House one of them went down to Henrys house & told them not to make up a light or put their heads out [unclear] then said he would shoot their heads off & they then came up to the House this morning my wife cant find her breast pin & Doran misses his gold Pencil these men prove to be robbers. --

6. 7. 8. We have finished weeding corn on creek Yesterday been to Fannies & Mary James. Richard gone with party to Lynchbg after these Yankee robbers. started Yesterday morning Plowing Peas Potatoes & Cotton to day. Hot weather

8. June Sent clairborne with10 Bus. Corn to D R Hunts Mill for meal Mary with & Bill came in Margarets I will not have any thing to do with as scrugg's is her home Old Billy has been gone some -where about a week or more

1865 June 8th Weather Dry & Hot little Henry sick this morning 14th Finished weeding corn on creek Henry (little) been sick ever since last Thursday nearly a week I Plowed our corn on Branches Layed by Lot corn Richard Plowed 1 1/2 days in Lot - Cutting Rye to day Hilled up sweet Potatoes Yesterday & Irish Potatoes To day Mr D R Hunt came down here & my negros Lila Sallie Ben & Claiborne has been talking impudent & doing but little work, that Mr. Hunt said he would go & talk with Lila give him such impudence and that he took hold of her & choked her a little & said he would Get him a rope & Back his her a while & Humble Sallie Ben ran off from the kitchen & no body said a work her Lila ran off & Claiborne run off as soon as Mr Hunt got over the

fence, he started to run & went like a Cutter. Jerry came up this evening & said they all went down to plantation, & told Jerry they were coming back home. Came back sure enough

15th This morning I presented an agreement to Henry & family & Rho= da to sign Lila & Claiborne refused & went off for a while but after a little reflection they all signed the paper promising to comply & went to work -- Jerry went home Raining this morning a little

16th Working out new ground corn & expect to cut some wheat this evening is on road --

17th cloudy & foggy. Chopping in little corn on far Branch chopping Broom corn will Hall up oats to day 1 stack to feed on & some leaves to put in stables. Plowing corn laying by next to Keens

1865. June 17th My Young spotted Sow & the man Hog I killed this day

Richard gone to Rolands Pride to Hancocks Shop Fine shower Rain this evening --

18th Some went to meeting [R?]

19. Cutting Wheat, began on Saturday to Lay by corn next to Keens Halled up last stack Oats to feed On Laying by corn Fine rain last night -Very warm weather at this time.

20. Raining this evening, Cutt Wheat part of the day Bill & Lucy help nearly 1/2 day --

21. Fine Rain last evening Cutting wheat this day Cut off noses & marked 6 pigs.

22nd Finished cutting wheat Bill & Lucy helped us in our wheat 1 day -Mr. Danl R Hunt Wm E Johns Jno Dillard [Capt?] Geo Coleman & Henry Worsham & took Claiborne Bucked & Gag him, Lila & Ben Runaway
